3 Cuncil fr Certificatin f Medical Auditrs, Inc. Recertificatin The Cuncil fr Certificatin f Medical Auditrs, Inc. (CCMA), als knwn as the Certificatin Cuncil, prvides a recertificatin prcess fr the purpse f demnstrating prfessinal cmpetence in the practice f medical audit and a cmmitment t cntinued imprvement in the skills and knwledge f Certified Medical Audit Specialists. The CMAS recertificatin prcess cvers three (3) basic principles: Evidence f cgnitive expertise - This has already been fulfilled by successfully passing the certificatin examinatin. Evidence f prfessinal standing Demnstrated by active membership in an apprved revenue integrity rganizatin, quality management rganizatin r physician advisr rganizatin such as, AHIA, ACPA, AAMAS, HFMA, HCCA, AAPC,AHIMA, r ther entity prviding educatin t the revenue integrity, quality, cding, billing and physician advisr cmmunities. Cmmitment t lifelng learning and invlvement in peridic self-assessment This includes cmpletin f CMAS apprved educatinal activities and earning the required cntinuing educatin units within the recertificatin cycle perid. The cntent f the educatin prgrams must meet the CMAS Cre Curriculum Dmains. Refer t the Dmains as described n the website at certifiedmedicalauditr.cm The CMAS certificatin expires three years frm the ntificatin date f successful cmpletin f the certificatin examinatin r subsequent recertificatin. Recertificatin Classificatins CCMA ffers tw levels f certificatin: Fr thse actively auditing, the CMAS remains the designatin. Fr thse prviding evidence f retirement, CCMA extends the CMAS-R (Retired) designatin. Recertificatin Requirements (Active) CMAS Maintain cntinuus active membership in an apprved revenue integrity rganizatin r quality management rganizatin and Cmplete twenty-fur (24) hurs f Cntinuing Educatin (CE) credits during the recertificatin perid: The 24 Cntinuing Educatin (CE) credits can cme frm any cmbinatin f the fur (4) Cre Curriculum Dmains. The applicatin deadline will be the expiratin date indicated n yur Certificatin card. EXAMPLE: If yur card says Valid 11/20/11 thru 11/20/14, the deadline fr submissin wuld be Nvember 20, Applicatins received after the deadline will be subject t the applicable late fees. Recertificatin Requirements (Retired) CMAS-R Maintain cntinuus active membership in an apprved revenue integrity rganizatin, quality management r physician advisr rganizatin Maintain cntinuus active certificatin as CMAS Payment f the recertificatin fee fr retired CMAS prfessinals. Determinatin f Cntinuing Educatin Credit The Certificatin Cuncil applies the fllwing cntinuing educatin credit frmulas: One (1) cntact hur = One (1) CMAS Cntinuing Educatin (CE) credit 1 CEU / CME = 60 minutes r One (1) CME credit fr Physicians Vlunteering fr CCMA is 1 CE per vlunteer hur up t 5 CE / calendar year CMAS Apprved Cntinuing Educatinal Prgrams Cntinuing educatinal prgram bjectives 1 required fr CMAS recertificatin must meet the CMAS Cre Curriculum Dmains (Bdy f Knwledge). Curses taken in preparatin fr ther examinatins are nt acceptable fr CMAS CEUs; (ex. AAPC r CCS tests prep curses.) 3. Acceptable cllege curses that demnstrates meeting the CMAS Cre Curriculum Dmain. Examples: Accunting/Finance, Statistics, Prject Management (meets Dmain 03: Audit Skill Sectin B) Each academic semester credit hur is equivalent t fifteen (15) CE credits taken within the recertificatin renewal cycle. A maximum f eighteen (18) hurs in this area can be applied twards CMAS recertificatin. General educatin r clinical cntent are NOT accepted fr this purpse; examples are English, Histry, Medical Surgical nursing, etc. Additinal Opprtunities t Earn CMAS CE Credits CCMA Bard members may use any apprved rganizatin Bard r cmmittee meetings when tpics cvered are related t the imprvement f the natinal rganizatin and prvide a benefit t the entire rganizatin membership and CCMA at large. A ne-hur meeting is equivalent t ne (1) cntinuing educatin credit up t a maximum f five (5) hurs per day. Cntributing CMAS questins r items fr the CMAS examinatin. Each item accepted earns 1.0 cntinuing educatin credit. A maximum f five (5) CE credits per recertificatin cycle may be earned this way. Recertificatin Prcedure The Certificatin Cuncil r its designee will send a Recertificatin reminder six (6) mnths befre the recertificatin expiratin date. Included in this reminder will be yur permanent CMAS number. This number is required n all crrespndence. This number is als n yur Certificatin card. Submissin Prcess Cmplete the CMAS recertificatin applicatin Include the recertificatin fee f $ Credit card payments are accepted. Cmplete the credit card infrmatin at the bttm f the CMAS recertificatin applicatin frm. The dcuments may als be scanned and ed recertificatin@cmasrg.cm Applicatins must be pstmarked n r befre the expiratin date n yur Certificatin card. EXAMPLE: If yur card says Valid thru May 2012, the deadline fr submissin wuld be May 31, 2012 Applicatins received after the deadline may be subject t the applicable late fee(s). The CMAS Recertificatin Packet which includes the Applicatin) can als be btained the CCMA website at CertifiedMedicalAuditr.cm Cntinuing Educatin units may be verified via Randm sampling Candidates with insufficient cntact hurs t recertify will receive a refund f their applicatin fee minus a $25.00 administrative fee. Denials and Appeals If the applicant is deemed ineligible fr cntinued certificatin, r if the dcumentatin submitted des nt meet the requirements listed, the candidate will be ntified in writing listing the specific reasn(s) fr the denial. Candidates may appeal in writing t the Certificatin Cuncil within 30 calendar days f receiving their letter. Denials may be based n: Failure t fulfill membership requirements Failure t fulfill cntinuing educatin requirements Obtaining r attempting t btain certificatin r recertificatin by fraud r deceptin The Certificatin Cuncil will mail a respnse t an applicant s appeal within 30 days f receipt f the riginal appeal. The candidate will nt be assessed any late fees during the appeal prcess. Additinal Recertificatin Fees One (1) t Ninety (90) days A grace perid f ninety (90) days beginning n the date f required certificatin will be given t assist ur members in maintaining their certificatin. Ninety-One (91) days t One (1) Year A fee f $50 in additin t the recertificatin fee will be assessed fr a CMAS wh allws their certificatin t lapse between ninety-ne (91) days and twelve mnths. The fee will be assessed t allw recertificatin withut retesting. All requirements fr recertificatin must be met in additin t payment. After One (1) Year A CMAS wh has allwed their certificatin t lapse lnger than twelve mnths and wh wishes t recertify must: Meet all current requirements fr certificatin and Retake the certificatin examinatin.
