1 BCECM Cmmunity Prject Grant - Prgram Guidelines and Applicatin Frm Bruneau Centre fr Excellence in Chral Music Applicatin Deadline: Mnday, Octber 16, at 5:00 p.m. (NST) Cmmunity Prject Grant Prgram Guidelines Missin f the BCECM Established at Memrial University f Newfundland thrugh a generus benefactin, the Bruneau Centre fr Excellence in Chral Music BCECM) prmtes research and cmmunity prjects that seek t understand, encurage and enhance the pwerful impact that chral singing can have n individuals and cmmunities. The resurces f the Centre assist in the realizatin f prjects that have the ptential t stimulate excellence in cmmunity music-making at lcal levels bth acrss the prvince f Newfundland and Labradr and n natinal and internatinal levels. It is understd that, in accrdance with the wishes f Drs. Angus and Jean Bruneau, funds may be disbursed in supprt f research and schlarship inside and utside the university cmmunity. Administrative supprt fr this cmpetitin is prvided thrugh the Schl f Music. What kinds f prjects are eligible? BCECM cmmunity prject grants supprt activities that encurage cmmunity develpment thrugh, and excellence in, chral singing acrss Newfundland and Labradr thrugh: The spnsrship f prgrams fr prfessinal develpment fr chral cnductrs, particularly thse wrking with cmmunity-based chirs. The prvisin f resurces t individuals and agencies seeking t enhance cmmunity develpment thrugh chral singing. Facilitating the activities f internatinal, natinal, and prvincial chral rganizatins and federatins in the prvince, Atlantic Canada, and beynd. Supprt t cmmissin, publish and disseminate new chral cmpsitins and arrangements that speak universally thrugh the singing traditins f Newfundland and Labradr. Cmmunity-based research n chral music in Newfundland and Labradr. The BCECM will nrmally fund n mre than ne prject per year that entails stipends t students t augment cmmunity r church chirs. Hw much mney can I apply fr? The maximum amunt is $15, There is n minimum amunt. We recgnize that in sme cases a few hundred dllars can prvide supprt fr a valuable wrkshp r can facilitate prductive engagement between chirs. Fr prjects requiring in excess f $10,000.00, pririty will be given t thse that demnstrate supprt frm ther surces. Updated April Page 1 f 9

A designated Prject Leader shuld cmplete and sign the applicatin. If the applicatin is successful, the Prject Leader will be respnsible fr verseeing the prject, keeping receipts, and reprting t the BCECM. Individuals affiliated with an institutin r sciety that supprts the creatin and perfrmance f vcal and chral music may als apply. Individual applicatins must be accmpanied by a letter f supprt frm the spnsring rganizatin. Eligibility f Expenses: Grants are fr prject funding nly: the BCECM des nt fund perating csts f rganizatins. Capital expenditures are nt allwed; hwever, small equipment purchases (nt t exceed $1500) may be allwed if deemed necessary t the cmpletin f the prject. Salaries fr artistic directrs f the applying rganizatin are nt nrmally cnsidered eligible. Such salaries are cnsidered part f yur rganizatin s perating expenses. Adjudicatin Prcess: Applicatins will be adjudicated by an Award Panel cnsisting f three faculty members frm Memrial University and tw members f the artistic cmmunity. Recmmendatins will be frwarded by the Awards Panel t the Bard f Directrs f BCECM fr their review and apprval. It is anticipated that awards will be annunced by December 1,. In the case f tw applicatins f similar merit, where nly ne f them can be funded, preference will be given t an applicant wh has nt recently received BCECM funds. Terms and Cnditins: 1. Only cmplete applicatins that arrive by the deadline will be cnsidered. 2. Awards up t $5000 will be awarded at the beginning f the prject. 3. Awards ver $5000 will be given in tw equal prtins. The first prtin will be awarded at the beginning f the prject, and the secnd prtin will be awarded upn receipt and apprval by the Bard f a mid-term reprt. 4. Prject start date must be after December 1, and will nrmally be cmpleted within ne year. Reprting Requirements: 1. It is the award hlder s respnsibility t ntify the BCECM Bard f any deviatins t the riginal prpsal. Any deviatins ver $100 require prir apprval. Shuld the scpe, budget r timeline f yur riginal prpsal change, please submit a written request t the Bard requesting a deviatin 2 3 weeks in advance. 2. Reprts fr prjects receiving up t $5000 are due within 60 days f the cmpletin f the prject. 3. Prjects receiving ver $5000 require a mid-term reprt and a final reprt which is due within 60 days f the cmpletin f the prject. 4. Receipts fr all expenditures must be prvided alng with the reprt. All infrmatin requested n this frm is cllected under the authrity f the Memrial University Act (RSNL 1990 Chapter M-7), and is needed slely fr the administratin and management f yur Bruneau Centre fr Excellence in Chral Music research/prject applicatin. The infrmatin will be used fr the purpses f assessment (ie. verifying qualificatins and adjudicating applicatins), prgram planning and administratin and will nt be disclsed except as required by law.
