2 2019 Curriculum Enhancement Grant Request fr Prpsals IUPUI Center fr Teaching and Learning (CTL) The deadline fr submitting prpsals is Friday, January 25, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. Guidelines I. Purpse The Curriculum Enhancement Grant (CEG) prvides faculty with technical and instructinal supprt, time, and funds t implement prjects designed t imprve student learning and success at IUPUI, IUPU Clumbus, and IUFW. In additin, the grants seek t enhance the cnversatin abut schlarly teaching n campus and increase the practice f the schlarship f teaching and learning. Furthermre, wrk n CEG prjects shuld enable faculty cmpetitiveness fr external educatinal r curricular imprvement grants. The grant supprts a wide range f faculty prjects invlving either individual curse develpment r brader curriculum develpment in face-t-face, nline, r hybrid frmats. Prjects may fcus n either undergraduate r graduate curriculum. Typical prjects include but are nt restricted t thse that wuld: Enhance the effectiveness f curses thrugh adpting pedaggies f engagement. Use technlgy t enhance the effectiveness f a curse. Cntribute t impact as a welcming campus thrugh learner-centered innvative, inclusive, and equitable classrm practices. Develp innvative curricular materials r appraches. Develp a new curse r sequence f curses. II. Eligibility Open t all IUPUI, IUPU Clumbus, and IUFW full-time faculty (tenured, tenure track, and nn-tenure track). Assciate (part-time/adjunct) faculty and visiting faculty may be included n prpsals, but may nt serve as a principal investigatr. III. Funding Levels Individual faculty members can apply fr up t 5,000. Faculty teams f tw wrking n tw r mre curses can apply fr a maximum f 10,000 and teams f three r mre wrking n three r mre curses can apply fr a maximum f 15,000 per prpsal depending n scpe (e.g., faculty team wrking n multi-curse sequence). N faculty member shuld be included in mre than ne prpsal. The amunt requested must be matched in full by the department r schl. Cash r release time is the preferred frm f in-kind match. 1

3 Fifty percent f the funding frm CTL will be made available at the start f the prject. The ther 50% will be prvided when the prject is cmpleted and the final reprt is submitted t and apprved by the CTL. Any faculty member wh has been a principal investigatr n a CEG will nt be eligible t apply fr anther CEG in the next year s rund f applicatins. They may apply fr a CEG tw r mre years after the initial CEG was awarded. IV. Deadline fr Submissin The deadline fr submissin is Friday, January 25, 2019, 11:59 p.m. EST. Late submissins will be returned withut review. V. Applicatin Prcess Submit the prpsal and letter f supprt frm the department r prgram chair nline at ctl.iupui.edu/ceg. Supprt fr Awardees Supprt available frm the Center fr Teaching and Learning (CTL) instructinal technlgy cnsultatins instructinal design cnsultatins Library supprt assistance and supprt frm the subject librarian in yur discipline cnsultatin with the Educatinal Develpment Librarian fr higher educatin research resurces and literature review VII. Awardees Obligatins Cmplete and submit the CEG final prject reprt n later than Friday, June 12, 2020, 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time. Agree t wrk with cnsultant frm the CTL wh will als mnitr the prgress f the prject. Participate in prgramming ffered by the CTL related t CEG prjects, which will include at least the fllwing: CEG receptin and infrmatin meeting fr all CEG recipients, Spring 2019 CEG sympsium, Fall 2019 Wrkshps r ther prgramming relevant t prjects Present a pster at the Fall 2020 CEG sympsium spnsred by the CTL fr the CEG grant recipients. The principal investigatr (PI) fr a Curriculum Enhancement Prject invlving human subjects must ensure that apprpriate Institutinal Review Bard (IRB) review and apprval is btained befre undertaking any prject activities. 4 t determine if a prject requires IRB review and whether applicable laws that gvern research will apply t the prject is available at the IU Office f Research Administratin Web site at: Awardees must acknwledge receipt f CEG supprt in any presentatin r publicatin f wrk funded by a CEG grant. VIII. Prpsal Features THE CEG PROPOSAL WILL BE COMPLETED AND SUBMITTED ONLINE at ctl.iupui.edu/ceg. The sectins f the prpsal are listed belw. Prject Descriptin (2500 wrd maximum) including Descriptin f curse r curriculum, including enrllment figures Prblem statement Ratinale fr the prject Literature review Synthesize literature that supprts the interventin (rather than simply prviding a list f references) in much the same way yu address existing knwledge in any prject in yur field Make a case that the research is needed and will fill a gap in knwledge. Disseminatin Plan (250 wrd maximum) Describe hw the findings and prducts will be disseminated within IUPUI, IUPU Clumbus, r IUFW, and t the larger academic cmmunity. Sectin 7. Prject Timeline (250 wrd maximum) Use a timeline t depict the schedule fr yur prject. The timeline shuld include start and finish dates fr yur prject as well as the dates r timeframe during which varius prject tasks will ccur. The 2019 CEG prject time perid is May 2019 t June 2020, s the prject timeline shuld fall within that timeframe. Sectin 8. Budget When cnstructing the budget, keep in mind that 50% f the funding frm CTL will be made available at the start f the prject, but the ther 50% will be prvided when the prject is cmpleted and the final reprt is submitted and apprved by the CTL (June 2020). Funding prvided by the schl/department will be dispersed n a timeline determined by the schl/department. Therefre the budget shuld be aligned with the prject timeline, making sure that funds will be available at the time needed t cmplete the prject. If unfreseen circumstances arise, the prject team will be allwed t submit ne request fr a budget adjustment by submitting a revised budget frm and budget justificatin, and a letter f supprt that indicates apprval f the change by the unit prviding matching funds. The budget may include the fllwing: Faculty summer stipend (if nt n a 12-mnth cntract). Please nte that either a percentage f the stipend will g twards paying fringe benefit/fica csts r fringe wuld need t be paid by the department/schl as part f the match. Prfessinal develpment funds 4

Pririty Criteria Pririty will be given t prpsals with: Ptential fr significant impact n student learning and success at IUPUI/IUPU Clumbus/IUFW The prspect f addressing a recgnized need r pprtunity in the department r at IUPUI/IUPU Clumbus/IUFW Innvative prductin and use f new materials, prcesses, and ideas; r implementatin f tested methds new t IUPUI/IUPU Clumbus/IUFW Enhancements, nt merely cntinuatins, f existing prgrams Teams interdisciplinary departmental Multi-curse sequences (i.e., CHEM C105, C106) X. Review Prcess Prpsals will be reviewed by a panel cnsisting f faculty and CTL faculty/staff. During the review r award prcess questins may arise regarding budget r ther aspects f the prpsals. The CTL reserves the right t negtiate changes in budget requests r ther prject features. Applicants will be ntified f award decisins n later than March 29,
