Cmpetency Based Training Cmpetency based training is an apprach t vcatinal educatin and training that places emphasis n what a persn can d in the wrkplace as a result f cmpleting a training prgram. The aim f cmpetency based training is t ensure that vcatinal educatin and training prgrams better meet the needs f industries and enterprises. Outcmes frm cmpetency based training reflect wrkplace duties, the wrking envirnment and perfrmance requirements. This shuld include perfrming higher level duties such as planning, prblem slving and managing tasks thrugh t cmpletin. Cmpetency based training prgrams are ften cmprised f units f cmpetency that cntain specific learning utcmes, which are based n standards set by industry. Delivery f training may ccur in a variety f frmats (classrm, nline, and distance) and wrkplace learning may apply t ensure that an verall understanding f all skills and knwledge is achieved. Curses at Sterling Business Cllege meet the requirements f the VET Quality Framewrk and are natinally recgnised. We custmise ur curses t meet the specific needs f ur students. Our curses are designed t be flexible and ften allw fr elective units f cmpetency. These elective units are chsen by Sterling Business Cllege. Smetimes units are timetabled t yur learning prgram which are additinal t the requirements f the qualificatin, r yu may chse t study additinal units. If yu are enrlled in the Certificate III in Early Childhd Educatin and Care r Diplma f Early Childhd Educatin and Care qualificatins, yur timetable will include a cmpulsry vcatinal placement. Yur vcatinal placement will be ff campus in an Early Learning centre. The placement will be arranged by Sterling Business Cllege. Yu require a minimum f 120 hurs f vcatinal placement fr yur Certificate III curse and a minimum f 240 hurs f vcatinal placement fr yur Diplma curse. 2 If yu are enrlled in Business, Marketing r Management qualificatins, Sterling Business Cllege may enrl yu in nline r distance learning fr sme units. If yu are n a student visa a maximum f 30% f yur qualificatin may be cmpleted by nline r distance learning. Assessment Methds A variety f assessment methds are used at Sterling Business Cllege, which include ff the jb assessment, practical demnstratins, case study analysis, written assignments and prject wrk. Yu may als be required t visit wrk places (as a class grup) fr practical assessments. Curse Credit Applicatins fr curse credit may be submitted befre yu cmmence yur curse f study. Please make sure yu submit all previus training and academic recrds t the Cllege when yu enrl. Curse credit will be granted fr units f cmpetency and/r mdules (unless licensing r regulatry requirements prevent this) where these are evidenced by: a) AQF certificatin dcumentatin issued by any ther RTO r AQF authrised issuing rganisatin; r b) authenticated VET transcripts issued by the Registrar. Recgnitin f Prir Learning At ur cllege, RPL is mst ften demnstrated thrugh participatin in structured assessment activities that ur students nrmally wuld be required t undertake if they were enrlled in the qualificatin cmpnents. Cnditins f Enrlment If yu have nt already prvided Sterling Business Cllege with the fllwing infrmatin, yu will need t d s befre yur curse starts: Evidence f yur English Language prficiency (if English is nt yur first language), i.e. a previus qualificatin cnducted in English. Alternatively yu may attend an interview with cllege staff. Evidence f previus study - If yu are applying fr a Certificate II r III qualificatin yu will need t prvide evidence that yu have cmpleted a minimum 10 years f schling r equivalent. If yu are applying fr a Certificate IV, Diplma r Advanced Diplma qualificatin yu will need t prvide evidence that yu have cmpleted a minimum f 12 years f schling r equivalent. Unique Student Identifier If yu are a new r cntinuing student undertaking natinally recgnised training, yu need a Unique Student Identifier (USI) in rder t receive yur qualificatin r statement f attainment. If yu dn't have a USI yu will nt receive yur qualificatin r statement f attainment. Yur USI will give yu access t an nline recrd f the training yu have dne since 1 January Yu will als be able t prduce a cmprehensive transcript f yur training. This can be used when applying fr a jb, seeking a credit transfer r demnstrating pre-requisites when undertaking further training. 3 The USI is a reference number made up f ten numbers and letters that: creates a secure nline recrd f yur recgnised training and qualificatins gained in Australia, frm all training prviders yu undertake recgnised training with will give yu access t yur training recrds and transcripts can be accessed nline, anytime and anywhere is free and easy t create and stays with yu fr life Training Results On successful cmpletin f yur curse, prvided we have a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) and all utstanding fees are paid, yu will be issued with an Award that is natinally recgnised and accredited by the Australian Qualificatins Framewrk (AQF) and yu will als receive a Recrd f Results. If yu withdraw withut cmpleting yur curse r yu d nt achieve cmpetency in all the units required t make up a qualificatin, we will issue yu with a Statement f Attainment fr any units that yu have successfully cmpleted and a Recrd f Results, prvided we have a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) and all utstanding fees are paid. Deferment, Suspensin r Cancellatin f Enrlment Yu may request a deferment r suspensin f yur studies n the grunds f cmpassinate r cmpelling circumstances. All requests must be submitted t the cllege in writing with accmpanying dcumented evidence. Sterling Business Cllege may defer, suspend r cancel yur enrlment. The reasns fr such a decisin include, but are nt limited t: failure t meet unit prerequisites unavailability f units/subjects nn-payment f fees student misbehaviur at the cllege. The reasns fr such a decisin include, but are nt limited t: nn-participatin in classes failure t submit assessments failure t meet student bligatins harassment r threatening behaviur wilful damage t cllege prperty Sterling Business Cllege Cmplaints and Appeals Prcess If yu are unhappy abut smething that has happened at Sterling Business Cllege, please talk with the peple cncerned t see if the issue/difficulty can be reslved. Yu are welcme t talk t Janelle t discuss the issue if yu wish. If yu are nt satisfied that the issue/difficulty has been reslved, yu can meet frmally with the Principal. Yu may have a friend r family member attend this meeting t supprt yu. Yu will be asked t put yur cmplaint in writing. Yur cmplaint will then be thrughly investigated and this prcess will begin within 10 wrking days f Sterling Business Cllege receiving yur cmplaint. Yu will be infrmed in writing f the decisin made. Yur enrlment at the cllege will be maintained during this prcess. If yu are nt satisfied with the decisin made, yu may appeal the decisin internally. Yu will need t appeal in writing and prvide reasns and evidence f why yu think the decisin was nt acceptable t yu. The Management team will review the dcumentatin and make a decisin. Yu will be infrmed f the decisin f the internal appeal including details f the reasn fr the utcme in writing. This prcess will begin within 10 wrking days f ldging yur appeal. Yur enrlment at the cllege will be maintained during this prcess. If yu are nt satisfied with the decisin f the internal appeal, yu may appeal the decisin externally at n cst t yu. Sterling Business Cllege will advise yu f the details f an independent external bdy. Yu will need t cntact the external bdy in writing and prvide reasns and evidence f why yu think the internal cllege decisin was nt acceptable t yu. Assessment Appeal If yu are unhappy abut an assessment result, please talk with the assessr cncerned t see if the issue/difficulty can be reslved. Yu are als welcme t talk t Janelle t discuss the issue if yu wish. If yu are still unhappy abut an assessment result, yu may apply in writing fr a re-evaluatin f the result. Where pssible, a secnd assessr will be invlved in the re-evaluatin f the results and yu will be infrmed in writing f the decisin and the reasns fr the decisin. This prcess will begin within 10 wrking days f Sterling Business Cllege receiving yur re-evaluatin request. If yu are unhappy abut the re-evaluatin f the result yu can request an appeal f the decisin. The request must be made in writing. The Management team will review the assessment and re-evaluatin result. Yu will be infrmed in writing f the decisin f the appeal and the reasns fr that decisin. This prcess will begin within 10 wrking days f Sterling receiving yur written appeal. Student Obligatins Yu must attend all classes, tests and assessments during the curse and abide by the Cllege rules and regulatins. Sterling Business Cllege reserves the right t terminate yur enrlment at any stage if yu fail t abide by the Cllege rules and regulatins r if yur cnduct is such that yur cntinued presence wuld, in the pinin f the Principal be detrimental t ther students and/r Cllege staff. It is a cnditin f nging enrlment at the Cllege that yu must attend 50% r mre f scheduled classes fr each unit. If yu d nt meet this requirement, yur enrlment in the unit(s) will be cancelled. Persnal Infrmatin Infrmatin cllected abut yu during yur enrlment can be prvided, in certain circumstances, t the Australian r State Gvernment and designated authrities. This infrmatin includes persnal and cntact details, and curse enrlment details and changes. In ther instances, infrmatin cllected abut yu can be disclsed withut yur cnsent where authrised r required by law. Cntact Details If yur cntact details (address, telephne number r , and wh t cntact in emergency situatins) change during yur enrlment at the Cllege, yu must prvide us with yur new details in writing within seven days. Sterling Business Cllege des nt take any respnsibility fr any infrmatin that yu may nt receive frm the Cllege because yu have nt updated yur cntact details. Electrnic Cmmunicatins Sterling Business Cllege prvides written ntices via electrnic cmmunicatin using the address yu have prvided t us. Fees All cllege fees and charges are payable in Australian dllars in accrdance with the schedule f fees n yur invice(s). Sterling Business Cllege will access yur fees in accrdance with the prcedures established by Australian legislatin. The fllwing Nn Tuitin Fees may apply during yur enrlment depending n yur individual circumstances: Credit Transfer Administratin Fee $150 Late payment fee $50 per week Enrlment reinstatement fee (after cancellatin f enrlment) $250 Certificate Re-issue $50 Reassessment fee $100 Please nte that there is ptential fr fees t change during yur curse. Students enrlled in Early Childhd Educatin curses are required t btain a Wrking With Children Check (currently $11 fr vlunteers) prir t cmmencing vcatinal placement. Prtectin f Fees in Advance T cmply with the Standards fr Registered Training Organisatins 2015 (Clause 7.3), Sterling Business Cllege will nt accept payment f mre than $1500 frm each individual student prir t the cmmencement f the curse. Fllwing curse cmmencement, Sterling Business Cllege may require payment f additinal fees in advance frm the student, but nly such that, at any given time, the ttal amunt required t be paid which is attributable t tuitin r ther services yet t be delivered t the student des nt exceed $1,500. 5 This written agreement, and the right t make cmplaints and seek appeals f decisins and actin under varius prcesses, des nt affects the rights f the student t take actin under the Australian Cnsumer Law if the Australian Cnsumer Law applies. Guarantee Sterling Business Cllege is dedicated t ensure that nce students have started studying their chsen qualificatin r curse, Sterling Business Cllege will be cmmitted t prviding the highest quality f training and assessment as utlined t the student. Sterling Business Cllege is respnsible fr the quality f the training and assessment in cmpliance with the Standards fr Registered Training Organisatins (RTOs) 2015, and fr the issuance f the AQF certificatin dcumentatin. In the event that Sterling Business Cllege is n lnger able t prvide the training and assessment services as initially agreed, then Sterling Business Cllege will arrange fr agreed training and assessment t be cmpleted thrugh anther RTO (N fees will be incurred) r a refund f unused tuitin fees if preferred by the student. Prir t any transfer, students will be frmally ntified f the arrangements including any refund f fees that may be applicable. Any fees paid prir t cmmencement (excluding the nn-refundable $250 Registratin Fee) are refundable in full. There are n fee refunds after curse cmmencement (unless we are unable t prvide the agreed training and assessment). All applicatins fr refund must be made in writing and submitted t the cllege as sn as practicable. A full refund f amunts wed t yu will be made nce yu have returned the signed acceptance f the calculated refund. By signing yur acceptance frm yu acknwledge that refunds are made in accrdance with the refund infrmatin. Other Sterling Business Cllege may, by written ntice, vary cnditins f enrlment as may be necessary t cmply with any law, regulatin r amendment f the Australian Gvernment and the State f Western Australia. In circumstances where a student under 18 years f age requires urgent medical care and it is nt pssible fr the Cllege t cntact the parent/guardian, Sterling Business Cllege is authrised t arrange apprpriate medical treatment in accrdance with the advice f qualified medical practitiners.
