1 NMCI Infrmatin Brchure 2013/ Intrductin This brchure is primarily intended fr students preparing fr Certificate f Cmpetency examinatins. Eligibility fr Certificate f Cmpetency Examinatins Befre enrlment at NMCI all prspective students preparing fr Certificate f Cmpetency examinatins are strngly advised t cnfirm their eligibility with the Department f Transprt, Turism and Sprt t sit fr such examinatins. Original dcumentatin must be submitted when making applicatin fr examinatin. 3. Admissin & Payment f Fees Curse start dates are shwn n the Curse Calendar. It is the student s respnsibility t cnfirm that they are eligible t undertake the curse. Once eligibility fr examinatins has been established all students are required t be registered and cmplete curses in rder t be eligible t undertake Department f Transprt, Turism & Sprt examinatins. A cpy f the Ntice f Eligibility letter shuld be prvided t the Examinatin Secretary at the NMCI n cmmencement f the curse. Admissins Prcedure EU Students are required t frward a cpy f Ntice f Eligibility frm the Maritime Safety Directrate (if available at the time f bking) accmpanied by a cmpleted Bking Frm and pay a depsit f 1,000 r full curse fee whichever is the lesser amunt. Balance f fees will be payable n cmmencement f the curse. Nn-EU Students are required t frward a cpy f Ntice f Eligibility frm the Maritime Safety Directrate accmpanied by a cmpleted Bking Frm and pay the full curse fee. On receipt f required dcumentatin and payment a letter t supprt yur visa applicatin will be frwarded tgether with receipt f payment. Page 1 f 7

Persnal cheques payable t Crk Institute f Technlgy drawn against EU based banks. Cmpany Assisted Students - cnfirmatin will be required frm the shipping cmpany t supprt direct invicing f curse fees. Dcumentatin shuld be frwarded t the CIT Administratin Office, Natinal Maritime Cllege f Ireland, Ringaskiddy, C Crk, Ireland. A refund (less 15% administratin fee) will be given t applicants if requested up t fur weeks after curse cmmencement. The current scale f fees is shwn n the enclsed Tuitin and Examinatin Fees List but it must be emphasised that the Cllege reserves the right t amend the fees applicable at the time f curse cmmencement. 4. Examinatin Fees The current scale f senir grade examinatin fees shwn n the enclsure: Tuitin and Examinatin Fees are in respect f all WRITTENS and SIGNALS exams which are cnducted at NMCI, in Crk. Fees fr Oral Examinatins are paid directly t the Department f Transprt, Turism and Sprt and are cnducted in Dublin. 5. Recgnitin f Certificates IRELAND is a signatry t the STCW 78 Cnventin (as amended) and accrdingly Certificates f Cmpetency issued by the Irish Administratin are 'Cnventin' certificates, which enjy full internatinal recgnitin. 6. Accmmdatin The NMCI is nn-residential. A private develpment fr student accmmdatin near NMCI caters fr the needs f mst ut f twn students and ther individual accmmdatin is available cntact details are given n the NMCI website. 7. Examinatin f Nn-EU Natinals The agreed psitin is that citizens f the Republic f Ireland, the UK and British Cmmnwealth may sit the examinatins and qualify fr the issue f Irish certificates f cmpetency (CC) up t and including STCW II/2 & STCW III/2 (management) level. Nn-natinals may nly be examined under this prcedure if they have previusly qualified in Ireland r the UK fr a CC at STCW II/1 & STCW III/1 (peratinal/oow) level. All examinatins are cnducted in English and the examiners may require candidates wh d nt have English as their first language t demnstrate satisfactry language ability. The required standard is Band 6 f the Internatinal English Language Testing System (IELTS). Further infrmatin is available n the IELTS website: 8. Visa Applicatin Nn-EU students are required t btain a Study Visa frm the Department f Justice and Equality fr the curse fr which they have applied. 3 9. Immigratin Cntrl Nn-EU Students n Entry t Ireland All students must verify immigratin regulatins befre making travel arrangements. It shuld be nted that after entry int Ireland it is a requirement that students register with the Garda Natinal Immigratin Bureau (GNIB) and btain a GNIB Identificatin Card. There is a fee fr this card.
