2 UK Cmmunity Fundatins YSA Fund Criteria Yuth Scial Actin includes vlunteering, fundraising and campaigning. I NTR O D UC TI O N Yuth scial actin has huge ptential t create enjyable pprtunities and skills develpment fr yung peple, benefitting lcal peple and places. The aim f this grant is t raise the level and quality f yuth scial actin. The prgramme aim is t increase yuth scial actin by 50% by 2020 taking the percentage f yung peple that vlunteer frm 40% t 60%. Scial actin invlves activities such as campaigning, fundraising and vlunteering, all f which enable participants t make a psitive difference t their cmmunities. Scial actin develps the skills and knwledge f yung peple that emplyers lk fr. The definitin f yung peple is between 10 and 20, and up t 25 fr disabled yung peple. Big Lttery Fund and the Office fr Civil Sciety have invested 2millin this year t fund grups delivering lcal yuth scial actin pprtunities. Lcal fundraising is als a key part f the Yuth Scial Actin prgramme. H O W M UCH CA N GROUP S BI D FOR? The Yuth Scial Actin Fund will prvide funding f between 1000 and 5000 fr each prject. WH I C H G R OUPS CA N BI D? WH A T WI LL YOUTH S O CI AL A C TI O N FUND? - The funding is fr cmmunity grups wrking in England. - This fund is pen t registered charities, cnstituted cmmunity grups and ther charitable rganisatins including Scial Enterprises and CICs. - Natinal rganisatins with lcal branches (with their wn management cmmittee and bank accunt) can apply. - New grups that fulfil all the ther criteria are welcme t apply. - Prjects d nt have t be led by a yuth grup. - The fund is t deliver scial actin pprtunities amngst yung peple age 10 t 20 years ld when the prgramme begins, r 25 fr disabled peple. - Applicatins shuld be fr a prject that lasts up t a year. - Prjects d nt have t last a year, e.g. they can be ne-ff events - Repeat funding is a pssibility. - Cmmunity grups that can draw in match-funding are encuraged t apply. The presence f match funding will nt affect ur assessment f yur applicatin. - Prjects can deliver pprtunities in a range f cntexts and settings: fr example nline, extracurricular, in clubs and grups, infrmally, r as part f structured prgrammes. 2

(Fr example regular nging vlunteering may nt be achievable fr the yung peple yu engage). - Cre csts are eligible if the ther criteria are met, including hw the prject meets the principles f great yuth scial actin. GROUPS MUST DEMONSTRATE THAT THEIR PROGRAMME CAN MEET THE FOLLOWING QUALITY PRINCIPLES OF GREAT YOUTH SOCIAL ACTION: Reflective Challenging Yuth-led Scially Impactful Prgressive Embedded Mre details abut the principles can be fund n the #iwill website. WE WILL PRIORITISE PROJECTS THAT: Seek t increase participatin frm yung peple frm lwer scial ecnmic grups and peple wh might nt usually take part in scial actin, e.g. engage new vlunteers. Embed skills in yung peple / the wider cmmunity while delivering. Fr example, listening skills, maths and English, cking, media and cmmunicatins, evaluatin and capturing success. Clearly demnstrate principles f great yuth scial actin. Fr example: an enjyable prject that enhances yung peple s scial lives, prvides the pprtunity t meet new peple, psitively impacts the wider cmmunity and develps lnger term cnnectins between vlunteers and the wider cmmunity. Have a plan t measure and reprt psitive changes made. Demnstrate sustainability beynd the life f this grant. A NOTE ON INCENTIVES: Apprpriate incentives fr yung peple can be used if they will genuinely engage peple wh might nt therwise be engaged. Cash incentives cannt be used (althugh expenses incurred while vlunteering can be paid in cash). Incentives shuld emphasise scial activities when pssible. Fr example thse that take part in yuth scial actin wuld be in with a chance t win vuchers, time credits, tickets t a shw, r a scial dinner in a restaurant tgether. I NELI GI BI LI TY YOUTH SOCIAL ACTION FUNDING CANNOT BE USED FOR: Statutry services statutry rganisatins cannt bid fr the fund. 3

Activities generating private prfit. Faith grups are welcme t apply but activities which evangelise r prselytise religius beliefs will nt be eligible. Prjects that nly wrk with ne faith are als nt eligible. DUE DILIGENCE DOCUMENTS We will ask fr the fllwing dcuments. If yu d nt have the required dcuments we will still cnsider yur applicatin. (When yu apply please uplad a nte explaining what yu need supprt with.) A cpy f yur gverning dcument (e.g. cnstitutin, memrandum & articles r set f rules). A cpy f yur mst recent annual accunts r management accunts if these are unavailable. A phtcpy f a bank statement n mre than 3 mnths ld. The bank accunt must be in the name f the rganisatin applying. Cpies f yur safeguarding and equal pprtunities plicies, if yu need supprt with safeguarding we suggest seeking guidance frm the Safe Netwrk. A list f the names and addresses f yur management cmmittee. Yu need a minimum f three unrelated management cmmittee members t be eligible fr the grant. 4

T newer ways t create psitive scial impact such as micr-vlunteering activities where individual yung peple decide what they want t d. Fr example a grup f friends might create a scial media campaign prmting psitive bdy image. We want t fund enjyable prjects that build and share skills and demnstrate psitive impact n the wider cmmunity. We anticipate that prjects will: Increase empathy and understanding f the psitive impact yung peple make. Bring benefits t lder peple, children, lcal business, schls and thse that supprted / tutred the yung peple. And that psitive elements fr yung peple will include: Having fun Making friends Trying new things Taking abut things in new ways with new peple New skills & Imprving CV s Being invited t help with mre activities Sme ideas t shw the range f pssible activities: A drp in where yung peple teach thers new skills such as cding/bike maintenance/nail art (r all three). Bite-size events fr yung peple t train an rganisatin s staff n the latest scial media. Teaching yung peple interview and vide editing skills and then supprting the yung peple t interview stakehlders and create a set f vxpp vides fr the website f a lcal rganisatin. Grwing vegetables at the city farm and then selling them (which builds mre skills and relatinships than painting the farm s shed). See the case studies belw t. 5

Sciable enjyable activities where yung peple can be with their friends r make new friends are likely t wrk well. Opprtunities t learn useful skills and demnstrate reliability are valued. Regular activities held at the same time every week may wrk well, but may nt always be the right frmula. Flexibility and respnsiveness is key t maximum engagement. , text and scial media mean cnvenient sessins can be planned and publicised quickly. Bite size events are a gd ptin and help vercme bkings and timings challenges. Cnsider priritising warm weather but nt exam time. Many peple dn t like t g ut in the rain, especially in winter. 7 UK Cmmunity Fundatins YSA Fund Criteria S O M E E XA MPLES OF PRO J E C TS FROM A P R E VI O US R O UND: TURTLE DOVE received 3500 t supprt 15 yung wmen t plan, deliver and review intergeneratinal scial cmmunity events and wrkshps. The yung wmen were experiencing varius issues such as ecnmic deprivatin, scial islatin, mental health issues, disadvantaged family backgrund, husing and hmelessness issues and a lack f educatinal attainment. They had lw self-esteem and lw cnfidence in accessing educatin, emplyment, training and vluntary wrk. The wmen engaged with lder peple thrugh intergeneratinal events run with ther partners including Dementia Cmpass and Ditchburn Place husing scheme. Events include afternn teas, tea dances, art wrkshps and scial activities fr lder peple in the cmmunity. Benefits fr the yung wmen included: Imprved emplyability such as time keeping, cmmunicatin skills, prblem slving skills, teamwrk, mney handling, and skills such as fd hygiene knwledge, design and prmtin and awareness f wrking with lder peple. The yung wmen als received time credits r gift vuchers fr participatin. Benefits t the cmmunity included: Imprved perceptin f yung peple; reduced islatin and imprved mental health fr thse invlved. This psitive impact n wider sciety thrugh the yung wmen's participatin and cnsequent imprved mental health and emplyability may als help reduce pressure n lcal services. WATERBEACH AND LANDBEACH ACTION FOR YOUTH (WAY) received 2,851 t prvide an Aspiratinal Lives Training prgramme fr yung peple aged years. The prgramme was designed t teach the yung peple hw t make healthy lifestyle chices and becme valuable members f their cmmunity. Sessins included maintaining gd mental health; building self-esteem; healthy eating and cking; vlunteering and cmmunity develpment. 7

8 UK Cmmunity Fundatins YSA Fund Criteria The cmmunity vlunteering sessins included fur rganised cmmunity litter picks; a Christmas present cllectin which the yung members delivered t the lcal Teenage Cancer Unit, and a Christmas meal that the yung members prvided fr islated lcal residents. 74 yung peple vlunteered at 14 different cmmunity events. The majrity had never vlunteered befre and fr almst half f the yung peple it was their first time being invlved with a cmmunity event. The prject has helped the yung peple t grw in cnfidence by supprting them t participate in things they wuld nt nrmally have chsen t d. 22 f the yung peple are nw engaged in regular vlunteering as a result f the prject, with many mre hping t get invlved sn. PORCH PROJECT received a grant f 5,000 twards the cst f setting up and running the Street Reach Prject, t encurage yuth vlunteering in and arund Hadleigh. Yung peple tk part in a cmpetitin t prduce a lg fr the event. A wrking grup f yung peple c-rdinated the prject, cnsidering what prcedures need t be put in place, including first aid training and safeguarding. The event ran ver a May weekend with the main aim f the prject being t supprt anyne in Hadleigh that needed help, including shpping, gardening, street cleaning etc. Yung peple frmed fur teams, with ten yung peple and tw team leaders in each team. Fr example a 90-year-ld lady asked fr help with her vergrwn garden. The brambles, weeds and grasses were waist high. The yung vlunteers weeded, strimmed and mwed. By the end f the mrning the garden was clear and her lvely rse bushes were nce again visible. When the team returned later in the day t cllect equipment, this frail elderly lady was sitting ut in her garden with a very big smile and she was effusive in her thanks. The difference the yung peple made t the quality f life f this lady was immense. 8

A UK wide launch wuld see a prgramme f arund 2 millin ver year 1, with match funds t the same level being spent in year 2 (as per the mdel f the pilts giving the fundatins a year t lcate, develp and raise the match funding). Shuld the prgramme run fr the full fur years f the #iwill campaign, the match will rll ver each year in the same way (see Fig 1 n next page). 9
