1 Hw t cmplete the BCU (UKCC) Level 2 Assessment Prtfli A Guide fr Candidates Intrductin T cmplete yur UKCC Level 2 Assessment yu must successfully pass all the assessment tasks as utlined in the Assessment Prtfli. Sme f these tasks are cmpleted practically n the day f assessment, and sme f the tasks are cmpleted prir t the assessment. Fr all the tasks that are cmpleted prir t the assessment there must be sme frm f dcumented evidence prepared, this evidence is then cllected and lked at by yur assessr. When the assessr is happy that this dcumented evidence f the assessment tasks yu have dne prir t the assessment day is satisfactry, they will be able t pass yu n these. Fr many candidates the prcess f dcumenting the assessment tasks prir t the assessment day is daunting, and the dcumentatin layut can be cnfusing fr sme. The purpse f this guide is t try t help yu in the gathering f dcumented evidence fr the assessment tasks, t ensure yu have everything yu need fr yur assessment. The majrity f evidence yu can cmplete very easily as yu wrk thrugh the delivery f the six caching sessins required prir t assessment. The infrmatin fr the assessment is in the fllwing three dcuments; Candidate Pack Sectin 1, Curse Guide Candidate Pack Sectin 2, Candidate Wrkbk Assessment Tasks Candidate Pack Sectin 3, Assessment Prtfli There are a few different versins f these dcuments as they have develped ver the last few years. All references in this dcument are t the latest versin (these all have Oct 08 in the header). If yu dn t have this latest versin yu can request a cpy frm yur Hme Natin Assciatin. Evidence t gather prir t yur final Assessment All f the paperwrk belw will be cllected frm yu at yur assessment. It is recmmended that yu keep a cpy f everything yurself s yu have it fr yur wn future reference. If fr any reasn the paperwrk yu present t yur assessr gets lst, yu have anther cpy if asked. We recmmend that yu gather all f yur evidence tgether in a flder including a title page with yur name and Hme Natin Assciatin Membership Number, fllwed by a cntents page and reference numbers. 2 Part 1 General paperwrk required: 1.1 Original Stamped CR Frm - yur CR Frm shuld already have been stamped by us in the 'registered' bx, and signed by yur training curse directr in the 'training' bx. Yu just need t put the frm in yur prtfli. 1.2 Yur Green Assessment Prtfli - cmplete yur persnal details n Pages 1 & 4; make sure the date f yur BCU (UKCC) Level 2 Training Curse and Directrs Name has been cmpleted n page 4; and insert the date yu cmpleted yur FSRT r CST is entered n page 4 (yur final Assessr can sign/date this if it has nt yet been dne they will need t see yur riginal certificate). Yu can als use the Prtfli Pre-Assessment Check List (n page 3) t d the final check that yu have the crrect paperwrk fr assessment evidence. Sign in the bx when yu have the apprpriate evidence. NOTE where it says yu need six Health & Safety checklists and six Risk assessments, this is an errr; yu just need ne per venue used as explained in this dcument. 1.3 Cpy f yur valid First Aid Certificate (8 hurs) - Prir t yur Level 2 Assessment, yu will need t have cmpleted a BCU recgnised 8 hur First Aid curse. Check here fr suitable curses; Please nte that it is assumed the HSE Emergency First Aid at Wrk curse is 6 hurs, unless therwise stated n the Certificate. If yu are nt sure if yur certificate is acceptable, please caching@bcu.rg.uk and they will be able t cnfirm. 1.4 Cpy f BCU Online LTPD Test Certificate Yu will need t cmplete this n-line test and put a cpy f the certificate in yur prtfli. G t the website Part 2 - Assessment Task 1 Case Study Evidence: (Indirect Caching Assessment Task) All f the fllwing paperwrk evidence is in relatin t the six sessins that yu have planned and carried ut prir t yur assessment. These sessins can be in either kayak r cane, but must be with the same grup f peple and preferably be spread ut ver a reasnable perid f time. By spreading the caching sessins ut it allws yu and the learners time t reflect/review and therefre keep adjusting the plan accrdingly. This will allw maximum learning and develpment t happen. 2.1 Infrmatin Gathering - this is n Page 7 f yur Wrkbk Assessment Tasks and needs t be filled in 2.2 Series Aims - this is n Page 8 f yur Wrkbk Assessment Tasks, yu just need t fill this in nce right at the start f yur sessins as it utlines the general aims these may well change and yu can indicate this in yur sessin reviews and yur plan evaluatin 2.3 Six Sessin Planners and Reviews these are fr each f the sessins yu have delivered, yu can use the template n Page 9 12 f yur Wrkbk Assessment Tasks, r make up yu wn. If yu chse t make up yur wn yu need t make sure yu meet the assessment criteria n page 8, and 10 f the Assessment Prtfli. Tw signed ff Sessin Reviews Tw f yur sessins must be bserved by a fellw cach r mentr, they will then carry ut yur review with yu, tw f the abve sessin reviews need t be signed by this persn 2.4 Health and Safety Checklists yu must cmplete ne f these checklists fr every venue yu use during yur six caching sessins. 3 2.5 Risk Assessments as abve yu must cmplete ne f these fr every venue/discipline yu use. These are fund n Page 16 f yur Wrkbk Assessment Tasks 2.6 Plan Evaluatin This is filled ut when yu have cmpleted all yur six sessins, and it is the evaluatin as t hw they all went, in this yu can identify if any f yur series aims changed and why. This is fund n Page 13 f yur Wrkbk Assessment Tasks Part 3 - Assessment Task 1 Additinal Evidence: (Additinal Evidence t Supprt Task 1a) 3.1 Yur Jurney t UKCC Level 2 - Yu need t write apprximately 100 wrds describing yur jurney frm Level 2 Training t Level 2 Assessment, and hw this has develped yu t be ready fr assessment. (Ref: 13.1 Page 18 f the Wrkbk Assessment Tasks) 3.2 Cpy f Skills Checklist In yur Candidate Pack Sectin 1, Curse Guide n Pages there is a Pre-Curse Bench Marking Task. Yu shuld have already filled this in prir t yur training curse. Fill this in again with yur current level f knwledge and submit it as yur skills checklist. 3.3 Access Details Supply details f access cnsideratins fr tw venues yu use in yur caching. Ideally these will have been the same venues yu used in yur six sessins. This may be a written paragraph r tw (apprx. 100 wrds), r a centre/landwner dcument. (Ref: Page 19 f the Wrkbk Assessment Tasks). 3.4 Child Prtectin / Gd Practice Guidelines Using ne f yur caching sessins as an example, r yur place f wrk, r yur club; write up where yu can find guidelines fr child and vulnerable adult prtectin. Describe hw these guidelines affect yu and describe examples f gd practice yu can incrprate during sessins. (Ref: 6.4 & Page 20 f the Wrkbk Assessment Tasks). 3.5 Cpy f Caching Lgbk Evidence In additin t yur six sessins, yu need t shw lgbk evidence f 10 hurs cane caching and 10 hurs kayak caching (Ref: 13.3 Page 21 f the Wrkbk Assessment Tasks). Part 4 - Assessment Task 2 Evidence: (Technical Understanding) 4.1 Cach Sign Off yu need t get a BCU Level 3 Cach r higher t bserve yu delivering aspects f the 2 Star and Paddlepwer syllabus. Having dne this they need t sign yur Assessment Wrkbk t say they are happy with what they have seen, this is n Page 22 f the Wrkbk Assessment Tasks. 4 Part 5 - Assessment Task 7 Evidence: (Supprting Evidence) 5.1 Phtcpy f 3 Star Certificate (Bat-based candidates nly) - this can be cane r any kayak discipline 5.2 Phtcpy f CPD Unit Evidence this can be; A secnd 3 Star Certificate A BCU 3 hur Fundatin Mdule fr example Caching Yung Paddlers, Caching the Mind A BCU Discipline Supprt Mdule fr example Caching Cane Slalm A BCU recgnised equivalent Details f all f these ptins are available frm; Evidence f Child Prtectin Training The Cane England Child Prtectin Plicy requires Caches wh wrk regularly r alne with children (under 18) t cmplete ScUK Safeguarding and Prtecting Children curse (r equivalent). Caches fr whm this des nt apply need t cmplete the BCU Paddlesafe nline Child Prtectin curse (r equivalent) instead. Yu dn t need t cmplete any page 18 and 19 f the Level 2 Assessment Wrkbk Assessment Tasks (r bx 10.4 n page 20). This is replaced by everything else yu have dne by fllwing this guide! CRB Disclsure: If yu live in England, Wales, r Nrthern Ireland yu need t have a BCU enhanced CRB disclsure befre yur Level 2 certificate can be issued. If yu d nt already hld a BCU CRB please ur CRB Administratr - janne.simpsn@bcu.rg.uk including yur name, BCU number, and address. Alternatively please phne her n J will send yu the necessary paperwrk t cmplete. As a vluntary BCU Cach this facility is currently free. It usually takes abut six weeks fr the CRB t make the necessary checks, s be practive and get this dne as sn as pssible. Yur Level 2 certificatin cannt be prcessed until a CRB check is in place. Yu dn't need t shw anyne a cpy f yur CRB Certificate - it will be checked via the BCU Database prir t certificatin. 5 Final Assessment Preparatins Having wrked thrugh everything abve, yu will nw be ready t present yurself fr assessment. Ensure all yur paperwrk evidence is packaged tgether in the abve rder and all clearly titled with yur name n it. Yu will be asked t either send it in prir t yur assessment r t bring it all alng at the start f yur assessment. What t expect n Assessment Day: Assessment Task 3, 4, 5, and 6 are all practically seen n the day f yur assessment and are then signed ff by yur assessr. In Assessment Task 3 yu will be required t deliver tw 20 minute caching sessins (cane and kayak), as part f this task yu will be required t write a sessin plan and sessin review fr bth caching sessins. Yu will nrmally d these n yur assessment day and they will be cllected frm yu after yu have delivered and reviewed yur sessins.
