2 Mission & Impact Statements Mission Adopt a Golden Nashville is a 501(c)( 3) non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue, care, evaluation, and placement of abandoned or unwanted Golden Retrievers. We promote the understanding, appreciation and care of canines among the public through education about responsible pet ownership. We endeavor to raise awareness regarding the extraordinary unwanted pet population and do our part to decrease it. Background Adopt A Golden Nashville was founded in AGN rescues approximately 200 Golden Retrievers and Golden Retriever mixes each year. Since our founding we have rescued and re-homed over 3000 dogs in the Middle Tennessee area. Needs Raise $30,000 in 2019 to help cover increasing costs of veterinary expenses. Approximately 40 percent of dogs we take into our program are heart worm positive. Heart worm treatment costs can surpass $1200 per dog for complete treatment. Recruit additional fundraising, administrative, and foster volunteers. Recruit a community events coordinator to assist with planning and implementing special events in the Middle TN area. 4 Programs Programs Canine Heartworm Prevention Description Adopt A Golden Nashville strives to educate the public regarding the importance of monthly heart worm treatment. Heart worms are serious and potentially fatal. Heart worms are foot long worms that live in the heart, lungs, and associated blood vessels of affected pets and can cause lung disease and/or heart failure. The disease is spread by the mosquito, and this also affects indoor pets. Prevention is the best option and should be administered monthly throughout the year. Adopt A Golden Nashville routinely provides heart worm prevention information at our events and on our social media accounts. Each new adopter is advised of the importance of placing a dog on monthly prevention, including the winter months. Approximately forty percent of the dogs we take into our program are heart worm positive. Treatment takes several months and can costs can surpass $1000 per dog. We also encourage our adopters to add fresh vegetables, such as carrots and broccoli to their dog's food at least 3 times a week. We educate our fosters on the importance of holistic nutrition, and each dog in our program is placed on a holistic food. The benefits of holistic food include: improved skin and coat, fewer allergies, and greater heart, eye, and intestinal health.
