3 Statements & Search Criteria Statements Mission Statement Woodford Forward is a group of citizens and business owners that advocate for innovative policies that promote the highest and best use of urban land and the agricultural use of productive farmland throughout Woodford County. Background Statement The Woodford Forward Foundation (WFF) was formed in 2015 to conduct education, outreach, and research initiatives that advance innovative policies that promote the highest and best use of urban land and the agricultural use of productive farmland throughout Woodford County, Kentucky. Woodford County possesses some of the most productive farmland in Kentucky, largely due to the presence of prominent thoroughbred farms, and is home to the cities of Versailles and Midway, two of the more historic urban areas in Kentucky. See below for more information on Woodford County and its cities. This historic and predominantly agricultural county is at a crossroad, needing to encourage economic development while desiring to retain its unique character. To assist Woodford County in moving forward, Woodford Forward Foundation will conduct a number of research, education, and outreach activities. Impact Statement In 2016: 1. Commissioned a comprehensive Woodford County Agriculture Economic Impact Study with University of Kentucky 2. Hosted 2nd annual panel of experts from Lexington and Louisville for Physical Education III 3. Co-hosted a Community Open House w/bluegrass Land Conservancy to raise awareness about the importance of farmland conservation. 4. Hosted candidate forums with SPARK Versailles for the Versailles and Midway city council races. 5. Adopted a Strategic Plan to prioritize our work during the next 3 years. In 2017: 1. Commission a Woodford County Cost of Community Services (COCS) study with UK 2. Host 3rd annual panel of experts from Lexington and Louisville for Physical Education IV 3. Co-hosted an outdoor film screening of Look + See, a portrait of Wendell Berry w/bluegrass Land Conservancy to raise awareness about the importance of farmland conservation and local food production. 4. Co-Host candidate forums with Chamber of Commerce and Women Clubs for the Versailles and Midway city council races. 5. Create partnerships to install Electric Vehicle Charging Station infrastructure in Woodford County Needs Statement The Woodford Forward Foundation has funding needs to host a signature, innovative public forum discussion on urban development in downtown Versailles, currently referred to Physical Education IV'. The public forum will explore the potential impacts of place making design, how intentional redevelopment and infill can create more vibrant downtowns, and the importance of balancing future development with farmland conservation in Woodford County. Expert panelists will present on experiences with successful regional projects and initiatives, focusing on the revitalization of downtown environments. The forum provides a unique opportunity for community stakeholders to experience presentations from a panel of experts in urban planning, architecture, engineering, place making, and farmland conservation.in the early spring, 2018, the Foundation is planning and currently seeking partnerships to host three Candidate Forums, for City Council and Magistrate candidate debates on behalf of the cities of Midway, Versailles, and local Woodford County governments. The Foundation is a non-partisan education & outreach organization, a conduit for grassroots civic engagement, that is a catalyst to public discourse and civic engagement.
