2 Statements & Search Criteria Mission Seeing addicted lives changed one day at a time through Biblically based transformation Background Beginning in February 2008, in collaboration with the City of Richmond Sheriff, C. T. Woody, a program was piloted in the Richmond City Jail (RCJ), called The McCovery Program. In August 2009, the program experienced enough growth and success to sustain operations as a non-profit organization without the assistance of the McShin Foundation. At this time, the program name was changed to Men of Valor Empowered (MOVE). Due to turnover at the executive director level, the name was again changed in October 2010 to the current designation of Kingdom Life Ministries (KLM). Impact 1. Assisted in reducing recidivism rates by 18% in comparison to the other programs in the Richmond City Jail. 2. Assisted in saving the Commonwealth almost $8 million in a four year study period. 3. Recidivism rates among men in the program was 75% prior to their enrollment in the program. After the program, this was reduced to 34% - a 57% decrease! 4. Saved the lives of many men through helping them overcome their addictions and criminal behavior. Needs 1. Our demand exceeds supply. KLM needs more than one recovery house to meet the needs of those in need. 2. Currently, KLM does not have a paid Executive Director. Our goal in 2014 is to hire a full time Executive Director to support rapid expansion that is occurring and to spearhead a large fundraising campaign. 3. KLM needs a van to transport clients to and from jobs, court, appointments, DMV, and other necessary places. 4. KLM needs additional partnerships with employers, in order to continue to meet the needs of employment by program participants. 5. Additional funding to support expansion of programs and services provided. CEO/Executive Director Statement Kingdom Life Ministries (KLM) is a spiritual and faith-based program that incorporates AA and NA, in order to change the way participants think and make them realize why they keep using. This will enable the men to correct their behavior when they are released and then become productive members of society. Areas Of Service Areas Served Areas Metro Richmond KLM works primarily with men who have been released from the Richmond City Jail. However, sometimes, men in need who are not incarcerated are accepted into the program if space is available in the house. Service Categories Substance Abuse Dependency, Prevention & Treatment Housing & Shelter NEC 2
3 Programs Programs Jail and Re-entry Transition Program Description Inmates follow a structured daily agenda, including Bible study, AA, NA, group meetings, guest speakers, community meetings, cultural awareness programs, self-improvement classes, school, and leadership training. 90 days prior to release, participants begin re-entry preparation. Budget $20, Long term Success For the men who go through the program, recidivism rates, as well as substance use, will decline. Additionally, great savings to the city jail and Commonwealth will be incurred. Participants will pay off debts, become active fathers, pay bills, gain employment, further their education, and be law abiding citizens. Post-Release Component Description This begins at the jail when a KLM staff member picks up the participant and brings them to the recovery house where they are provided with the program and structure to help them become law abiding citizens. Although each man s length of stay varies, it is suggested that participants remain in post-release housing for one year. The purpose of grouping the men together in a home is to create a support network for recovery and solidify the behavioral changes initiated in the Jail Component. Budget $20, Strategy Long term Success Yes Work with the men in order for a life of self-sufficiency to be established. It is the goal to return them to their families, ensure that they have a stable job and/or pursuing education, pay bills, obtain their license, pay off debt, and other similar items. 3

Our partnership with Sheriff C.T. Woody and the Richmond City Jail is among the most important relationship we have, as it enables us to begin providing services to offenders while they are incarcerated; one of the 3 most critical components success. KLM and the Director works closely with the court system, judges, probation officers, Commonwealth Attorney, 6
7 and the drug courts. Each of these relationships not only enable our offenders to often be court appointed to KLM, but also provides them with additional opportunities of success that they otherwise likely would not be afforded. 7
