Updates 4.1 DEAR Study Cnference On Octber 11 and 12, the Eurpean Cmmissin rganised a cnference t launch the interim reprt f the Study n the Experience and Actins f the Main Eurpean Actrs Active in the field f Develpment Educatin and Awareness Raising (DEAR Study). The study has been drafted by a team f 5 cnsultants, Harm Jan Fricke, Agnes Rajacic, Alessi Surian, Jhannes Krause and Peter Davis. The cnference aimed at receiving input frm all participants, accrding t the findings acknwledged by the cnsultants in the past mnths. Cmmissiner fr Develpment, Andris Piebalgs als attended the Cnference and gave a cntrversial speech, referring t DE mainly as a tl t prmte develpment cperatin. Fllwing the cnference, a delegatin f the Eurpean Develpment Educatin Multi Stakehlder Steering Grup, cmpsed f the c-chairs Rilli Lappalainen and Sergi Guimaraes and its secretary Tbias Trll, met with the Cmmissiner and discussed abut the place f DEAR within EC develment plicies. The Cmmissiner was pen t a pssible inclusin f DEAR in the EC Green Paper n develpment (currently under drafting prcess) and t explre the pssibility t have a EC Cmmunicatin n DEAR. The Frum discussed abut the cnference, and fcused n the relatin Develpment Cperatin/Develpment Educatin, and the new paradigms f develpment. With regard t the DEAR Study, the Eurpean Cmmissin asked input frm stakehlders: the DARE Frum gave its input thrugh a paper n the Study via the Civil Sciety helpdesk website. 4.2 Eurpean Multi stakehlder Grup The Multi-stakehlder Grup (MSH) fficially launched the DE Watch Reprt n September 15, at the Eurpean Parliament, hsted by MEP Filip Kaczmarek and MEP Ska Keller. Abut 20 participantsrepresentatives f the Eurpean Cmmissin and assistants t MEPs, as well as MSH members and representatives f CONCORD- tk part t this event. DEEEP is c-funded by the Eurpean Unin

4 The full reprt f the event is available n Eurpean Develpment Days High Level Panel The MSH is als invlved fr the 4 th year in a rw, in the Eurpean Develpment Days (EDDs), which are crganised by the Eurpean Cmmissin and the Belgian Presidency t the EU, and will take place in Brussels n December 6 and 7. The MSH is rganising a High Level panel n Citizens engagement, n December 7. Speakers are in the prcess f being identified, and are likely t be MEPs, representatives f the Eurpean Cmmissin, Nrth Suth centre Fr any questins cntact Tbias Trll t.trll@deeep.rg DEAR in Eurpe Stand Tgether with the high level panel, anther relevant issue is the Develpment Educatin and Awareness Raising in Eurpe Stand that DARE members are jintly rganising with members f the Glbal Educatin Week Netwrk (GEW). DARE members are asked t jintly cllabrate with GEW representatives in rder t identify material t be shwn at the stand, as well as a cuntry sheet t be used during the event. A taskfrce met in June, t evaluate ex pst the EDDs 2009 and t start brainstrming n the EDDs Shuld yu be interested in jining the taskfrce, cntact Chiara Tripepi. Twards DEEEP 4? Befre the DARE frum meeting, a survey n the future f the DEEEP prject was circulated t the members, in rder t assess the need r nt fr a further phase f the prject. The answers were very psitive in the sense f having a new DEEEP, but mainly in favur f changes in the structure f the prject, DEEEP is c-funded by the Eurpean Unin

5 A DARE members taskfrce will brainstrm in the cming mnths, and meet prbably in January. Such taskfrce shuld cnsult with DARE members and feed in the reflectin f the next steps twards DEEEP 4 r any ther similar prject. Rilli Lappalainen, CONCORD bard member highlighted the need fr change and innvatin while facing a furth phase f DEEEP, especially while drafting the aims. Rilli Lappalainen underlined the fact that capacity building, netwrking and advcacy shuld be seen as tls and nt aims fr DEAR. Cncerning the timeline and the call fr prpsal system, the prpsal shuld g thrugh the 2011 call, as it is mst likely that the 2011 and 2012 calls will be dne tgether. The chice is therefre between 2011 r 2013, this having cnsequences n the cntinuity f the prject. The grup will have a first brainstrm n the visin fr DEAR in the year 2020 after the DEEEP management meeting beginning f Nvember. This pen reflectin shuld be the basis fr further develpment f a pssible funding applicatin. A physical meeting f the task frce is planned t take place beginning f 2011 in Brussels, pssibly in the cntext f the CONCORD special event n the structured dialgue. Develpment Educatin Summer Schl 2011 The next Develpment Educatin Summer Schl (DESS) will take place in Finland, frm June 12 th t June 18 th 2011, and will be fcusing n Quality and Impact in DE. Kehys the Finnish NGDOs platfrm tgether with DEEEP will be the rganisers f this yearly event. Riikka Suhnen, wh was appinted by Kehys as the Finnish c-rganiser, presented a first draft f the cncept t the DARE members, and invited them t cntribute with cmments/inputs in rder t make the event as successful as pssible. The deadline fr sending cmments t Riikka is Nvember 11 th The majr innvatin fr 2011 will be t have a multi-stakehlder participatin. Mre infrmatin will be prvided in the curse f the year. HRBA sessin The Human Right Based Apprach is an infrmal grup f CONCORD which is trying t map hw much HR are included in the wrk f ther WGs. Catherine Naugthn frm CBMI, n behalf f the HRBA held a 1.30 hur sessin n HRBA, tgether with the supprt f Tiina Salmi, frm PLAN Finland. Jint Eurpean Yuth Frum/DARE sessin This sessin was initiated by the Yuth and Children wrking grup, in the frame f its bjective f strengthening the relatin with the Eurpean Yuth Frum (EYF). The main aim f this sessin was t bring tgether DARE practitiners and members f the EYF, and seeing where ptential synergies stand between the tw grups. After a shrt intrductin f each netwrk, a wrld café sessin fcusing n cmmunicatin and the rle f yuth in DE was held, facilitated by a EYF trainer. Participants had 15 minutes t discuss n issues linked t the tw main tpics and feed back t the plenary. A reprt f this activity is being prepared by the EYF and will be circulated t the DARE members as sn as it is ready. The utcmes will be f particular imprtance fr the wrk carried ut by the Yuth and Children WG.
