3 INTRODUCTION TO TRADE FINANCE RECERTIFICATION Wh des Recertificatin apply t? Recertificatin applies t individuals wh wish t retain their CDCS / CSDG / CTFC designatin and helps yu demnstrate t emplyers that yu are keeping yur knwledge in internatinal Trade Finance up t date. We autmatically enrl students int the Recertificatin Prgramme when yu initially pass the CDCS / CSDG & CTFC examinatins. 3* years after passing yur initial exam(s) r last recertificatin cycle, yu need t apply t recertify yur designatin(s). If yu d nt want t use the CDCS, CSDG r CTFC designatin 3 years after yur exam / last recertificatin, yu d nt need t recertify. Yur name will then n lnger appear n the CDCS / CSDG / CTFC Registry. Yu can recertify tw ways 1. By retaking and passing the CDCS / CSDG / CTFC exam again at any pint in the future. 2. By carrying ut cntinuus prfessinal develpment (CPD) thrughut the recertificatin perid. (Previusly knwn as Persnal Develpment Units (PDUs) Bth are aimed at ensuring yu are learning mre and maintaining knwledge f Internatinal trade finance. *CDCS Advcates shuld see page 7 fr their requirements. What are the main rules f CPD / PDU Recertificatin? 1. Recertificatin needs t take place every 3 years (6 years fr CDCS Advcates see page 7). If the recertificatin cycle is missed the nly way t recertify is t retake and pass the apprpriate exam. 2. The learning activities have t take place within the recertificatin cycle. Learning hurs cannt be achieved in ne cycle and then taken frm r ver t anther cycle. 3. Recertificatin submissins are t be submitted t us n later than tw mnths after the end f the recertificatin perid. 4. Fr thse recertifying up t and including the 31 Octber CPD Learning hurs / PDUs are required t recertify. 5. Thse recertifying at 30 April 2020 and beynd will be required t submit 36 CPD Learning hurs / PDUs t recertify successfully. 6. There are n minimum r maximum amunts f CPD hurs which can be claimed in a year fr CDCS / CSDG. Hwever there is a minimum requirement f 6 hurs every 12 mnth perid fr CTFC. 4 7. Any suitable activity which is carried ut can be claimed twards bth CDCS and CSDG Recertificatin. 8. Only activities which relate directly t trade finance COMPLIANCE can be claimed twards CTFC recertificatin. Trade Finance Cmpliance activities can als be claimed twards CDCS and CSDG. 9. The activity must: have cntent which relates t Internatinal Trade Finance and in the case f CTFC be specific t cmpliance and regulatin. have cntent which is sufficiently challenging t thse with a Level 4 qualificatin Last fr a minimum f 30 minutes Be able t be verified e.g. have an attendance certificate r ther accurate dcumentatin t cnfirm yur participatin in the activity. 10. The Recertificatin fee needs t have been paid Recertificatin by examinatin in rder t re-start the recertificatin cycle, yu can retake the examinatin. Yu will need t cmplete a full examinatin registratin and pay the assciated full exam fee. Yu will be given access t a new set f study materials and curse site. THE RECERTIFICATION CYCLE What is the Recertificatin Cycle? The CDCS / CSDG / CTFC recertificatin cycle is 3 years (36 mnths) lng. Fr CDCS and CSDG this perid starts frm passing the examinatin (April r Octber) OR frm the start f a previus successful recertificatin cycle - and expires 3 years later. CTFC is an examinatin which can be taken at any time. Hwever, t ensure sme cnsistency and similarity with all Trade Finance recertificatin, the recertificatin perids will be aligned with the April and Octber cycles. This culd mean that yu 3.5 years as yur first recertificatin cycle this will align t 3 years upn successful cmpletin f the first recertificatin ( see table 2 n page 5 fr CTFC recertificatin perid examples) CDCS Advcates (CDCSAdv) shuld see page 7. 6 Hw d I find ut when I need t recertify? There are fur different ways yu can find the date yu need t recertify: 1. Thrugh yur MyLIBF accunt under the mystudies Study Histry tab. See example belw: 2. Thrugh yur mycpd lg in yur MyLIBF accunt. If yu hld bth CDCS and CSDG and CTFC yu will have access t a lg fr all designatins. OR Example: 3. Frm the letter yu were sent with yur certificate which includes the date f yur recertificatin perid. OR 4. Frm yur certificate which carries a recertificatin / expiry date t shw yu by when yu must have cmpleted yur CPD / PDU activities. 7 Hw many times d I need t recertify? T retain the cntinual right t retain the CDCS, CTFC and / r CSDG Designatins yu will need t recertify the designatin every 3 years nging. Hwever, nce yu have cmpleted yur 5th recertificatin cycle we will present yu with the CDCS Advcate (CDCS Adv) designatin. Once CDCS Adv has been achieved yu will mve t a 6 year recertificatin cycle. All ther cnditins and rules remain the same. CDCS ADVOCATES new designatin Wh are CDCS Advcates? In recgnitin f the successful cmpletin f 5 CDCS Recertificatin cycles we award the designatin f CDCS Advcate (CDCS Adv). This new designatin, created in late 2016, demnstrates the lng term cmmitment given t cntinuing prfessinal develpment (CPD) by maintaining and imprving knwledge in the area f Internatinal Trade Finance. CDCS Advcates may use the letters CDCS Adv after their name. This new designatin will require recertificatin but this perid is extended t 6 years nce CDCS Adv has been achieved. The same number f CPD learning hurs / PDUs are required as thse n a 3 year cycle. Prvided successful recertificatin is achieved after the 6 years, CDCS Advcates can cntinue t retain their Advcate designatin. Yu d nt need t apply fr the CDCS Advcate status as this designatin is autmatically presented when five recertificatin cycles have been cmpleted. New CDCS Advcates are invited t ur Graduatin Ceremny, receive a Pin Badge and special Certificate. All ther requirements f recertificatin remain, including the amunt f CPD / PDU hurs. Is the Advcate designatin available t CSDG / CTFC recertifyers? The very first CSDG examinatins were passed in Octber It is ur intentin t award the designatin f CSDG Advcate frm Octber 2029 t thse wh will have then cmpleted five cycles. 8 CONTINUING YOUR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CPD) What is CPD I thught recertificatin was abut PDUs? We nw use the term CPD Learning Hurs instead f the previus PDU (persnal develpment unit). We believe it better describes recertificatin as a cntinuatin f the learning already achieved after passing the Internatinal Trade Finance exams. Persnal develpment can be achieved in s many areas f life and wrk but Recertificatin needs t fcus n cntinuing the knwledge yu have gained in the subject f Internatinal Trade Finance exclusively. Recertificatin is nt abut cllecting pints but abut adding t and maintaining yur knwledge f internatinal Trade Finance and we feel the term CPD better reflects this. ONE CPD Learning hur will be the same as ONE PDU previusly. What abut the PDUs / CPD Learning hurs I have already cllected? As mentined abve 1 x PDU will equal 1 x CPD Learning hur - s its simply a change in the wrding / terminlgy we are ging t be using. All PDUs will cnvert acrss t CPD learning hurs n a like fr like basis. Example: 10 PDUs will equal 10 CPD Learning hurs. We are phasing in the use f the CPD Learning hurs wrding, s until 2019 when we refer t CPD we will remind yu that this is the new name fr PDUs. NUMBER OF CPD HOURS / PDUs REQUIRED Hw many CPD hurs / PDUs d I have t achieve? 1. Fr thse wh are currently in a recertificatin cycle, which expires in r CPD Learning hurs / PDUs are required t recertify. There are n minimum r maximum hurs which can be claimed in any ne year. See table n page Thse wh start a recert cycle frm 1 May 2017 will be required t demnstrate 36 CPD Learning hurs t recertify successfully 3 years later. Fr CDCS and CSDG There are n minimum r maximum hurs which can be claimed in any ne year. Fr CTFC a minimum f 6 CPD learning hurs need t be btained each 12 mnths. (See page 10 fr examples). Is there a maximum number f CPD learning hurs / PDUs I can gain in any ne year? N nt fr CDCS and CSDG we have withdrawn the restrictin which allwed a maximum f 16 CPD Learning hurs / PDUs t be claimed in any ne year. Yu can btain yur CPD learning hurs at any time during yur recertificatin perid t suit yur wn learning and develpment needs. Yes fr CTFC as it s s imprtant t be regularly up t date with all cmpliance and regulatin matters, a minimum f 6 CPD learning hurs must be achieved every 12 mnths twards CTFC recertificatin. The activity must be directly related t Trade Finance Cmpliance. The first 12 mnth perid will cmmence n the day f passing the exam subsequent perids will be n a rlling 12 mnth basis. 11 Why are yu increasing the number f CPD Learning hurs / PDUs t 36? We cnsidered the CPD requirements fr ther financial prfessinals such as bankers, financial advisers and accuntants and fund that they are cmmitted t many mre CPD hurs than the 24 we currently require fr recertificatin. We believe that it s imprtant t demnstrate t firms, clleagues, custmers and emplyers that thse wh gain recertificatin have sufficiently demnstrated that they have kept their knwledge up t date and imprved their psitin with regards t Internatinal Trade Finance. 24 PDUS / learning hurs represented just ne day a year spent n maintaining and imprving knwledge. We want recertificatin t demnstrate that learning has substantially imprved yur psitin since taking the exam. 36 represents an average f ne hur f CPD / PDU each mnth f the recertificatin cycle which gives a simple reference pint t keep yu n track with yur CPD learning / persnal develpment. The increase nly affects thse entering their recertificatin cycle r a new recertificatin cycle frm 1 May Thse already in a recertificatin cycle will nt have t demnstrate the increased hurs until they enter a new 3 year cycle. (6 years fr Advcates). See table page 9. T assist with achieving the increased hurs we are allwing new CPD / PDU activities t be claimed twards recertificatin. Will increasing the number f CPD Learning Hurs / PDUs make it harder t achieve recertificatin? Our intentin is t make the activities yu can learn frm mre accessible and achievable, especially fr thse wh are currently unable t attend events r wrkshps. T assist with achieving the increased hurs we are allwing new CPD / PDU activities t be claimed twards recertificatin. See Page 12. We will als be accepting activities where the cntent is linked t Internatinal Trade Finance in general. This is a relaxatin f the rule that the cntent needed t be specific t the CDCS r CSDG syllabus. The exceptin t this will be CTFC where the cntent must be related t Trade Finance Cmpliance. Fr CDCS and CSDG (nt CTFC) we have withdrawn the maximum limit placed n the amunt f CPD Learning hurs / PDUs yu can achieve in any ne year, allwing yu t chse activities which fit yur persnal learning situatin. 12 What activities will I be able t claim as CPD learning / PDUs? In rder t assist in achieving the increased number f CPD learning hurs mre activities can be used twards yur Recertificatin. As well as participatin in Internatinal Trade events and wrkshps we will allw yu t claim CPD Learning frm activities such as thse belw prvided that the cntent is related t Internatinal Trade Finance fr CDCS and CSDG and related t Cmpliance fr CTFC. The activities will need t be verified with dcumentatin t supprt the claim yur firm / emplyer / ICC / rganisatin may impse additinal checks r restrict the list f activities if they s wish as a cnditin f yur jb r membership: Preparatry wrk required prir t an event / wrkshp; Actins carried ut fllwing wrkshps r events; Online e-learning; Time taken t research cntent fr delivering training t thers; Brushing up n knwledge t take internal tests such as Anti-mney laundering; data prtectin; anti fraud measures etc. (test results will be prf f learning); Internal training carried ut by superirs as part f yur jb rle within Internatinal Trade Finance; Passing ther internatinal trade qualificatins we mentin this n page 15. Participating in industry briefings Reading industry press s lng as it s mre than 30 minutes AND a statement f the learning gained has been cmpiled. 13 Hw many CPD Learning Hurs / PDUs can I claim fr my activities? Generally, the number f CPD Learning hurs / PDUs awarded t an activity will be based n the amunt f learning time the activity tk. We have been allcating this apprach fr sme time and the number f PDUs previusly awarded t curses is a direct reference t the number f learning hurs in the activity. Activities such as: Lunchbreaks; award ceremnies; netwrking r registratin are nt cnsidered learning activities. The nly exceptin will be studying fr qualificatins. The general rule here will be that we will award ONE CPD Learning hur fr every 10 hurs f recmmended study time. Fr example: if 300 learning hurs are recmmended t cmplete a qualificatin we will be awarding 30 CPD Learning hurs t the activity. Please see page 15 with regards t the amunt f CPD hurs allcated t ur ther trade qualificatins. Hw shuld I chse my CPD / PDU activities? We encurage yu t chse CPD activities which are mst suitable t yur wn persnal learning desires r are required in rder t maintain yur rle r gain a prmtin. We wuld nt cnsider attendance n a CPD event which delivered basic r intrductry infrmatin regarding Internatinal Trade Finance t be suitable fr thse that have sme experience in the industry. Equally these wuld nt be suitable fr thse wh have recently passed a trade finance exam and are therefre very familiar with the cntent as it s still fresh in their minds. Ideally yu will have the freedm t chse yur wn activities which suit yur experience and learning desires. Hwever, smetimes yur emplyer r rganisatin will ask yu t take part in certain activities in rder t cmply with their wrking requirements. We will accept this type f CPD activity fr recertificatin prvided it is related t Internatinal Trade Finance. 14 CPD RESOURCES Where can I find suitable CPD / PDU activities? Yur lcal CDCS representative can keep yu infrmed f events happening in yur area / cuntry. Yu can lk n ur CDCS / CSDG Curse registry at the events we have been asked t recgnise as suitable fr Trade Finance learning acrss the glbe r nline. Yu can find yur wn resurces thrugh the internet such as Castline and ICC Academy KnwledgeBank ur nline library nrmally reserved fr access by studying students and members nly but fr the first time it will be available t thse wh are in a recertificatin cycle. There is a specially designed Internatinal Trade Finance area. Hw many CPD learning hurs / PDUs can I claim fr taking anther Internatinal Trade Finance exam? Yu can claim CPD Learning hurs / PDUs fr passing any f ur Internatinal Trade exams. The amunt f CPD Learning hurs awarded will depend n whether yu are currently in a recertificatin cycle. 16 RECORDING CPD LEARNING HOURS /PDUS. Hw d I need t recrd my CPD Learning hurs / PDUs? We ask yu t make recrds f yur CPD Learning hurs / PDUs as and when yu carry them ut and they are fresh in yur mind. Yu shuld use the mycpd lg in yur MyLIBF accunt. If yu hld bth CDCS and CSDG and CTFC yu will find that yu have a separate lg fr each (CTFC lg t appear in 2018) If yu wish t claim CPD fr all designatins yu can key the infrmatin int ne lg and tick a bx in the lg t als ppulate yur ther recertificatin lg. Where d I find the mycpd lg t recrd my CPD / PDUs? Yur mycpd lg can be fund in yur MyLIBF accunt. This replaces any previus excel r wrd cpies f a CPD lg template which can n lnger be accepted. We have prvided a Guide t registering and using the mycpd lg which is als available in the lg fr reference at any time. 17 What infrmatin d I need t recrd? The lg will prmpt yu t cmplete sufficient infrmatin fr yur recertificatin t be successful when it s ready t submit t us. Yu are als given the pprtunity t uplad cpies f dcuments t yur lg fr us t hld safely and securely fr yu. Yu can retrieve any infrmatin r dcuments yu uplad int yur lg very easily. A mycpd lg user guide is available within the mycpd. The guide will include hw t get yur recrds t yur emplyer / firm / spnsr r ICC shuld they request them. Why d I need t use the mycpd lg? We will use yur MyLIBF accunt much mre in the way we cmmunicate with yu regarding CPD activities highlighting any changes t lk ut fr giving hints and tips regarding recertificatin t give yu prgress updates n yur recertificatin submissin and deliver yur new recertificatin certificate. Every student wh studied CDCS and CSDG r recertified since April 2014 has access t this CPD lg n their recrd. A CPD lg will be made available t CTFC hlders within a few mnths f launch f this new qualificatin. It is a cnditin f study with us that yu have access t the internet and give an address. The lg will be available wherever yu have access t the internet and mean yu can update yur recrds easily as yu undertake the CPD activities. Yu will be submitting yur recertificatin applicatin thrugh yur MyLIBF accunt. This will have several advantages: It will represent a secure methd f passing ver yur details t us; Means yu d nt have t check t see if we have received it because yur MyLIBF recrd autmatically feeds int ur systems; Yur recrds cannt be lst; Yu will receive an n screen cpy f yur recertificatin certificate far quicker than current systems; We can send yu updates and prgress reprts thrughut yur 3 year recertificatin cycle. If yu wish t recertify all designatins yu will need t keep up a recrd f CPD fr each f the qualificatins separate frm each ther. The mycpd lgs will ask if yu wish an entry t g int bth / all lgs and if s, will enter the details int the ther lg(s) as well. This assumes the date is within the recertificatin perid fr all CPD claims. Remember if yu are claiming CPD fr the Cmpliance CTFC qualificatin it must have cntent which is exclusively relevant t Trade Cmpliance. Every student is given access t this accunt when they first study with us. Even if yu haven t used it fr a while yu will still have a persnal mylibf accunt. 20 Hw d I send yu my Recertificatin submissin and payment? Yu can submit yur applicatin t us in the mnth befre yur recertificatin expires but n later than 2 mnths after expiry. Submissins are made thrugh yur mylibf accunt. Steps 1 7 in belw are fr thse making their wn recertificatin submissin. Steps 1 3 belw are fr yu if yu are using yur lcal CDCS / CSDG Representative / emplyer / spnsr fr yur submissin. Yu shuld receive guidance abut making yur submissin frm them t. Yur lcal representatives have been instructed n hw they let us knw yu are ready t recertify and fr us t lk at yur MyLIBF accunt. STEP 1. Check yu are within the times mentined in the table n page 19 in this guide. STEP 2. Check yu have lgged / dcumented all the CPD / PDUs yu wish t be cnsidered fr yur recertificatin in yur mycpd lg n yur mylibf accunt. STEP 3. Ensure yu have upladed supprting dcuments such as certificates / trails. If yu are having yur recertificatin sent t us by yur emplyer / ICC / verseas CDCS cntact yu shuld nt prgress thrugh the rest f this prcess. We will pick up yur details frm them. STEP 4. Have yur means f paying the fee handy fr yur submissin. STEP 5. Click n the SUBMIT yur CPD lg. buttn which will be available in yur lg when yu have input a minimum f 24 hurs and yu are within the mnth befre expiry. STEP 6. The next screen allws yu t make yur payment / r infrm us f yur payment methd. Yu can pay by yur credit / debit card payment, tell us which emplyer / firm t charge r cnfirm that yu have / will make a bank transfer. We use FLYWIRE. STEP 7. Save a cpy f yur acknwledgement that yur applicatin has been submitted. STEP 8. Yu can keep a track f prgress via The Prgress Summary in yur mycpd lg. Please DO NOT yur recrds r cnfirmatin that yu have submitted yur applicatin t us as this will nly cause cnfusin. If yu try t send / yur CPD t us in any ther way, yur recrds will be returned unchecked and yur recertificatin will nt have been accepted. Will yu accept early r interim submissins? As we can bth mnitr yur CPD learning hurs / PDUs frm the entries in yur mycpd lg thrughut yur cycle, there is n requirement fr interim CPD / PDU submissins. We will be publishing several new resurces and guides ver the next 12 mnths t help yu establish the criteria fr recertificatin and be sure that the path yu are n will lead t a successful recertificatin cycle. If yu fllw these yu will have n prblems recertifying at the end f yur cycle. What if I m late making my submissin? We already allw up t tw mre mnths fr yu t make yur submissin fllwing expiry. Hwever, if yu d wish t recertify after this time we will cnsider applicatins n an individual basis and all will be subject t the late fee mentined belw. 23 What happens if my applicatin is nt sufficient fr recertificatin? We will wrk with yur t try t get yur recrds t reflect the learning yu have carried ut ver the 3 years f yur recertificatin cycle. There may be activities yu have carried ut which yu have nt claimed n yur CPD lg but thers yu have claimed which will need t be remved frm the lg as they aren t suitable. Hwever, having t return t yu fr additinal infrmatin will delay yur applicatin and culd mean missing the deadline fr cntinued inclusin f yur name n the CDCS / CSDG / CTFC Registry. Therefre, we always encurage yu t check and re check yur recrds are cmplete and accurate befre pressing the submit buttn in yur lg. If, even after, several attempts we have been unable t get the recrds t reflect the required criteria we wuld nt permit recertificatin and will refund the majrity f the fee paid fr recertificatin less the administratin fee f 30. FEES What is the cst f recertificatin? The latest fee structure will always be available thrugh ur CDCS CSDG and CTFC websites. A late fee is incurred if the applicatin and /r fee is received mre than ne mnth after expiry. When d I pay the charge? Fees are payable with the recertificatin applicatin. Applicatins cannt be prcessed withut the fee r fee details. Yu will be asked abut payment when yu SUBMIT yur recrd fr recertificatin. We use FLYWIRE fr ur Bank Transfers. What happens if I pay the fee and then the applicatin gets rejected? We will refund yur fee (less a 30 administratin fee) shuld yur applicatin be rejected r withdrawn. 24 RECERTIFICATION CERTIFICATES When will I get my certificate? New recertificatin certificates will be available within 24 hurs f us cmpleting ur recertificatin prcess and ur keying f the details int yur recrds. The certificate will be presented t yu in yur MyLIBF accunt and a cnfirmatin will be sent t let yu knw where yu can find this. Yu may print ff cpies f yur certificate if required. Yu can create a PDF cpy f the certificate t. These certificates are presented with ur new name and branding. The Certificate will remain n yur accunt until expiry. Why are yu putting the certificate in MyLIBF accunt? Printing and psting dcuments acrss the wrld takes time and cmes at a financial and envirnmental cst. There is als a risk that dcuments get lst and replacements are required. As yu can simply print ff cpies frm yur MyLIBF accunt there shuld be n requirement fr us t prvide yu with a printed versin f yur nline certificate. Printed versins f yur certificate are identical t the ne shwing in yur mylibf accunt. Hwever, if yu wish us t supply yu with a cpy yu can apply t us at custmerservices@libf.ac.uk fr a paper cpy. There is a fee f 48 GBP fr a paper cpy t be psted ut t yu. This is payable prir t issue f the certificate. Will my CDCS / CSDG / CTFC Distinctin award shw n my Recertificatin Certificate? The distinctin award will shw n an riginal CDCS / CSDG / CTFC exam certificate. It will nt shw n a recertificatin certificate as it is nt pssible t achieve mre than an assessment pass when carrying ut CPD t achieve recertificatin.
