3 27-28 Budget General Information USD # 452 Stanton County Schools, Johnson, KS Introduction Stanton County is located in the southwest corner of Kansas. The county dates it existence to 887 and has flourished and adapted to the changing times. Stanton County USD 452 comprises an area of 698 square miles, the entirety of Stanton County and a small area of Grant County to the east. The primary sources of revenue for Stanton County are farming and oil and gas production. The primary industries of Stanton County are farming, cattle, and oil and gas production. Primary crops raised in the county are wheat, corn, milo, sunflowers, cotton, onions, and sorted feed crops. The farmland is heavily irrigated in the eastern half of the county totaling 25,7 acres irrigated, while the western half is mainly dry land comprised of 255,732 acres. There are five family-owned feed yards throughout the county, and in 995, the Seaboard corporation constructed hog farms in the county. Mr. Robert E. Seger, President Mr. Jerrod Daniels, Vice-President Mr. Clem Gerard Mr. Chris Steimel Mrs. Heather Waldron Mr. Terry Hudgins Mr. Jim Cartwright Board Members Key Staff Superintendent: Ms. Susan Scherling Business Office Staff: Mrs. Jean Malone, USD 452 Board Clerk; Mrs. Norma Pantoja, USD 452 Accounts Payable Stanton County High School Principal: Mr. Bruce Bolen Stanton County Middle School Principal: Mr. Matt Berens Stanton County Elementary School Principal : Mrs. Gayla Myers In 99, Stanton County USD #452 became one of the fifty pilot schools for the implementation of Quality Performance Accreditation. Currently, we feel that the growth and development of our district is best served with the more encompassing scope of NCA. Through the first five year cycle, teachers have gained a better understanding of the components of school improvement and have taken a greater role in accomplishing the goals and needs of our district. The outlying grade schools of Big Bow and Manter were closed after the school year and those students were incorporated into the Johnson Grade School. In the school year, the district began a Pre -K program; therefore, moving the sixth grade from the elementary school, incorporating them into the Middle School.

4 The three schools share many cooperative activities. Third grade PE day is held on the high school grounds. The dress rehearsal for the high school plays and musicals are always performed with the grade school students as the audience as full dress rehearsal. High school students come to the grade school to read to the lower elementary students and they also serve as aides to classroom teachers. The high school creative writing class writes children books and presents them to the students. The elementary school continues to have an active Student Intervention Team to aid classroom teachers with individual student concerns. At present the elementary school consists of self contained classrooms. The fourth and fifth grade classrooms began participating in a technology grant in This grant included both equipment and training. The middle school has started a Help After School program to help those students who need extra help after school. Middle school students are also exposed to STUCO and CLASS Leadership programs. Both the high school and the middle school maintain a weekly eligibility list containing the names of students who have Ds or Fs. This list deems those students ineligible to attend school activities until their grades are raised. Teachers in both the middle school and high school have a peer mentoring group to provide the new teachers with any assistance they may need.
