3 Gal Statement #2: Guide Students t pass a State recgnized exam fr credentials f RDA, Registered Dental Assistant Outcme/Objective Statement (Be sure t include audience, behavir, cnditins, degree/benchmark, and evaluatin methd) 1 Tward the cmpletin f ALL the DNTA curses, the students will take the RDA, state mandated credentialing exam. N less than 75 % f the students will successfully pass the exam n the first attempt. There were bstacles t vercme such as liability issues, patient selectin and time dnated by the dentist prviding the care. It was nt as successful as anticipated List any Imprvements made in the (Last Academic) Year based n the PET Results: The prgram still cntinues t have bstacles regarding dentists perfrming live patient care at ur dental facility. This endeavr will be tabled after the academic year if we cannt prvide live care. Student participatin in hsting ffices were very successful after revisin f the clinical ntebk and supervisr instructins were revised. Evaluate Why Imprvements Were Successful/Were Nt Successful: Dentist were nt willing t cme during the designated time allwed by the schl fr Wednesday mrnings instead they preferred Fridays because they were already away frm their ffices during that time. The prgram was nt prepared t give up mst Friday mrnings fr this endeavr, hwever we did d tw prcedures that were very successful. Als, there was the legal aspect f liability insurance f the dentist prviding care. One retired dentist did nt have this cverage and culd nt perfrm treatment. There als was sme cntrversy as t wh was t prvide the patients selected fr this care. Evaluate Why Imprvements Were Successful/Were Nt Successful: , Dentists still are nt willing t prvide care at ur facility at ur times. The dentists are nt willing t give up valuable time in their ffice frm paying patients..understandable. We will lk int prviding sme minr care again this semester, pssibly in the evening hurs. We will have sme Wednesday mrning surgeries with a retired Oral surgen and sme Friday mrning general dentistry appintments with lcal dentists. The patients will be the dental hygiene and assisting students that need restrative wrk. There may be plans t extend care t ther Health Science students if there is a need. NO plans are made t prvide care t thers utside the health divisin Actin Plan : Plans are being revised fr Spring 2013 t prvide minr restrative wrk fr students and their immediate families, here at ur facility, perhaps in the evening hurs. IF it is nt successful this year, this initiative will be scrapped. 6 Gal Statement #4: Guide students t pass a State regulated exam fr the Certificatin t Mnitr Nitrus Oxide Sedatin Outcme/Objective Statement (Be sure t include audience, behavir, cnditins, degree/benchmark, and evaluatin methd): After cmpletin f Fall DNTA curse chairside assisting, including medical emergencies and dental anesthesia chapters and certificatin in CPR, the student will prve sund judgment and skills needed t mnitr a patient receiving nitrus xide sedatin by passing a State exam with n less than 70% Results (Prvide Numbers and Percentages fr Quantitative Data) Data: Numbers = 2 ut f 2 and Percentage = 100% * see remarks Data: Numbers = 9 ut f 13 and Percentage =s 69 % Data: Numbers = 12 ut f 13 and Percentage = 92% Prvide Previus Data/Result (Include if benchmark was met and hw results relate t utcme statement): Students were given the chice t take the exam nline, r g after cmpletin f their spring curses t an nsite facility in Dallas, r wait fr the presenter Laurie Semple t cme t Amarill in spring f chse t cmplete the nline exam and bth were successful 4 thers came t the nsite exam spring f 2011 and were successful. The remaining have nt tested Students were prepared during class time fr the exam and 13 f the 14 class members tk the exam. 9 f thse passed with an average grade f 83%. 4 failed this attempt and nly 1 plans t retake the exam this semester nline with the new class f Students were given tw study lectures and a practice exam prir t nline participatin in Tarrant Cunty Cllege nline N2O curse. Of the 15 students cmpleting the prgram, 13 chse t take the curse and exam, 2 chse t travel t take an in class later in the year. Of the 13 that participated, 12 were successful. One (1), failed due t academic dishnesty (cheating) and is barred frm taking any future classes frm Tarrant Cunty. ALL dental assisting students will be required t take the exam in the Spring semester via nline Imprvements: Students were given tw additinal study lectures frm Dana Sctt, prgram directr and a practice exam. Evaluate Why Imprvements Were Successful/Were Nt Successful: Left t their wn chices, students d nt always make wise decisins n when r where t test. Nt ALL ffices use nitrus xide sedatin but thse that d want the students certified. It is best if they ALL receive this certificatin The additinal caching and practice exam was very successful. The dishnesty f ne student did nt dampen the effect f the remaining class and we will chse t d this nline test fr future certificatins
