3 ARTICLE DEADLINES Articles must be riginal and nt published earlier in ther prfessinal jurnals r publicatin. Prpsed articles fr Armed Frces Cmptrller are reviewed first by the ASMC Editrial Bard. The Bard recmmends t the Executive Directr and Editr f Armed Frces Cmptrller whether articles shuld be cnsidered fr publicatin. Articles must be submitted earlier than ther publicatin materials. 5 GUIDELINES FOR CHAPTER NEWS PHOTOS Submissin deadlines fr ther Armed Frces Cmptrller input may vary significantly depending n the length and frmat f the items. In general, materials shuld be received apprximately 6 weeks befre publicatin f the jurnal the materials are intended fr. The final pages f Armed Frces Cmptrller are dedicated t sharing phts and news f chapter activities. When submitting phts, please use these guidelines: Chapters shuld list phts in pririty sequence. When pririties are nt identified, phts will be selected based n the general criteria f quality f the pht and timeliness. Grup phts allw the jurnal t feature mre members and guests in the limited space available. Each pht must include a clear captin in an attached file. At a minimum, captin shuld include: Chapter name Full name (and rank if apprpriate) f each individual pictured (left t right) Detailed descriptin f activity in pht. Please d nt use dates in captins. Phts must be f reprductin quality clr preferred, with gd clarity and cmpsitin. Be sure the phtgrapher has turned ff the date functin n the camera. Events pictured must be timely e.g., phts f Christmas events may be apprpriate fr the Spring issue, but nt fr the Summer issue. Please keep in mind that we wrk tw mnths in advance f the mailing. Fr example, phts fr the Summer issue are chsen in May. Phts must be sent electrnically and must be at least 300 DPI reslutin. 6 STYLE SHEET A "style sheet" describes the basic rules fr article preparatin by a specific publicatin. It makes the printer's jb easier and less cstly. The fllwing style sheet fr Armed Frces Cmptrller is rather streamlined and is intended t help ptential authrs prepare their cpy in a cnsistent manner. All cpy shuld be submitted with ntes prepared as indicated belw and with clear authr bylines. Cmmercial and DSN (if applicable) telephne and fax numbers shuld be included fr each authr r fr the authr serving as principal cntact with ASMC. Authrs shuld als submit a valid address and current mailing address. Articles shuld be between 2,000-2,500 wrds, which typically equates t 3-4 typewritten pages, with heading and graphic r pht incrprated. Article submissins shuld be singlespaced Wrd dcuments. Art Wrk/Graphics: Initial article submissins may include reprduced versins f graphics r art within the text. If selected fr publicatin, hwever, authrs must prvide separate high-reslutin (300DPI) electrnic files (.ppt r.pdf) f sketches, charts, drawings, etc. Phtgraphs: Initial article submissins als may include reprductins f phtgraphs within the text. If selected fr publicatin, high-reslutin files (300DPI), clearly captined, must be prvided. Individuals in grup phtgraphs shuld be identified by full name, rank (if applicable), and lcatin in the pht. Fr example: Frnt rw (l. t r.): Mary Jnes, VADM James Thmas, Capt. Rick Smith. Main heads are centered, all in upper case letters, and underlined: DEFEATING COST OVERRUNS First subheads are flush t the left margin, upper and lwer case, and underlined: Overruns Caused by Oversight Secnd subheads are indented five (5) spaces, upper and lwer case, underlined, and fllwed with a perid. Text begins n the same line, indented three (3) spaces frm the perid. Actins by Review Bards. The nte shuld be placed at the end f the authr's submissin. In the jurnal, the nte will appear in a ftnte at the bttm f the first page f text. The bi shuld be 3 t 4 lines lng and include the fllwing: authr's current psitin, significant previus psitins r hnrs, ASMC Chapter affiliatin and psitin (if any).
