It is recgnized that the utcme f deliberatins n this item will frm part f the verall utcme under the Paris Agreement wrk prgramme. I. Intrductin / mandate / purpse Article 14 f the Paris Agreement requires the Cnference f the Parties serving as the meeting f the Parties t the Paris Agreement (CMA) t peridically take stck f the implementatin f the Paris Agreement in rder t assess cllective prgress twards achieving its purpse and its lng-term gals (the glbal stcktake), in a cmprehensive and facilitative manner, cnsidering mitigatin, adaptatin and the means f implementatin and supprt, and in the light f equity and the best available science. The CMA is t undertake the first glbal stcktake in 2023 and every five years thereafter, unless therwise decided by the CMA. The utcme f the glbal stcktake shall infrm Parties in updating and enhancing, in a natinally determined manner, their actins and supprt in accrdance with the relevant prvisins f this Agreement, as well as in enhancing internatinal cperatin fr climate actin. The Cnference f the Parties (COP) at its 21 st sessin requested the Ad Hc Wrking Grup n the Paris Agreement (APA) t identify the surces f input fr the glbal stcktake, t develp its mdalities and t reprt t the COP, with a view t the COP making a recmmendatin t CMA 1 fr cnsideratin and adptin. The left clumn belw reflects ur understanding f pssible headings and subheadings fr the building blcks that Parties can further develp as the cnsideratin f this matter prgresses. The right clumn reflects ur understanding f the issues, ptins, cncepts and views that have been presented by Parties in their submissins, inputs and statements at this and previus sessins.
