2 LAUGHING CORNER: empower is working with Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to assist with past-due heat and energy bills for the grant year. Please note that because of high call volume, you might find it difficult to get through to us by telephone. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reminds residents they can apply for emergency energy assistance online at or with paper applications available at MDHHS offices starting in October. Online help is available from navigators at MDHHS offices and some private agencies like empower that assist with energy aid. Assistance is available through State Emergency Relief (SER) and the Michigan Energy Assistance Program (MEAP). See the news release: Two elderly women were eating breakfast in a restaurant one morning. Ethel noticed something funny about Mabel's ear and she said, "Mabel, did you know you've got a suppository in your left ear? " Mabel answered, "I have a suppository?" She pulled it out and stared at it. Then she said, "Ethel, I'm glad you saw this thing. Now I think I know where my hearing aid is."
