3 Page 3 of 5 What exactly is the Hope Lodge? A home away from home, the Hope Lodge is a shortterm residential facility designed to offer housing and emotional support free of charge to any cancer patient who travels to the Tampa Bay area for treatment. Our goal is to help lessen some of the burdens associated with a cancer diagnosis. Many of these patients would not have been able to receive the recommended treatment without the Hope Lodge. Some facts and figures regarding the Tampa Hope Lodge for last year (2015) include: Number of patients served: 410 Total Nights Served: 10,642 Individuals represent nearly every county in Florida, 7 different states, and 3 different countries Average client age: 59 Greater number of males served than females Average Length of Stay: 5 weeks The Tampa Hope Lodge s annual budget is approximately $800,000 with a daily operating cost of approximately $150/suite per day. We have 40 patient suites including 11 suites on the 4 th floor designed to accommodate bone marrow transplant patients with separate dining area and 2 kitchens. The 29 remaining suites are located on the 2 nd and 3 rd floors. Our 1 st floor includes common areas inclusive of a large dining room, 4 fully equipped kitchens, library, game room, and a large family room, all available twenty-four hours. We also have a large screened patio including a barbeque grill for use by residents and their visitors during daytime hours. As you can imagine, keeping our Tampa Hope Lodge running smoothly is a massive endeavor. We have a full-time day staff of five and nighttime and weekend staff of eight. We also depend on a dedicated group of approximately forty volunteers to assist us with managing the front desk, along with other individuals and community groups that donate their time, talent and treasure to enhance the lives of our residents/caregivers during their stay with meals, activities and entertainment. We depend on the generosity of people who donate to the American Cancer Society through its many events and programs, as well as directed donations to our Hope Lodge to support our many costs. We welcome visitors to come and tour our facility and are available to answer any questions you may have about our mission and purpose.
