2 Summary of Activities and Accounting Trailer Estates Park and Recreation District is a deed-restricted 55+ mobile home community with over 1250 privately owned properties. Located in Bradenton, Florida between US41 and Sarasota Bay, the District provides numerous services, facilities, and activities for residents. The recreational activities are many boating, shuffleboard, kayaking, horseshoes, Bocce, billiards, bridge, dancing, pickleball, exercise, woodworking and much more. Classes in yoga, line dancing, art, Zumba, ceramics, etc. also are offered for residents and their guests. In addition, clubs and volunteer groups/organizations conduct a variety of events including dinners, receptions, ice cream socials, bazaars, talent shows, educational presentations, live music and other enjoyable gatherings. Activities, classes and events receive support from the District, clubs, individuals and/or other sponsors. One of the well-attended events is Bingo, which is held every Sunday and Wednesday evenings in our Large Hall. During the busiest months of the year (November-April) the attendance at Bingo is significant. During 2012, attendance during these months ranged from a low of 734 players to a high of 1492, with an average of 1139 players per month. Average attendance per evening was 131 players. As we approach the summer months, the attendance at Bingo and other Trailer Estates activities drops off. For the months of May-October 2012, there were as few as 318 players to a high of 620, with an average of 424 players per month. Average attendance per evening was 48 players. Totals for the monthly winnings (money in, money out) during the busiest months of 2012 ranged from $6,106 to $11,611 with an average of $9,096 per month. The total for the 6-month timeframe was $54,575. During the summer/fall months, the monthly winnings ranged from $2,843 to $5,265, with an average of $3,665 per month. The total for that 6-month timeframe was $21,987. In looking at the full 12 months of 2012, the total winnings were $76,562. All monies collected are returned to the players in prize winnings. The first two months of 2013 (January and February) had 1449 players and 1416 players respectively, with an average of 1433 players per month. Average attendance per evening was 169 players. Totals for the monthly winnings were $11,634 and $10,667, with an average of $11,016. The total for these two months was $22,031 with a total of 2865 players. During March of 2013 the Trailer Estates Park and Recreation District was advised to hold Bingo for prizes only, giving Bingo winners a choice to select from items that had 1
3 been donated specifically for the Bingo games. Attendance remained high with a monthly total of 1242 players and an average attendance per evening of 155 players. Prior to this advice there were three Bingo evenings during March with total winnings of $4,384 dispensed. Bingo at Trailer Estates is conducted by volunteers in the community. There are callers, sheet sellers, attendance counters, and those that distribute the winnings. This volunteer group has been coordinated by a Trailer Estates Park and Recreation District Board member, the Continuing Recreation Trustee. These volunteers arrive at 5:30 p.m. to prepare for the doors to open at 6 p.m., and a 7 p.m. start for the Bingo games. The games are open to Trailer Estates residents and their guests. There are two sessions and two jackpots each evening. Due to the $250 jackpot limit, there are Beggar s Bingo games held during many of the Bingo evenings. Records of attendance and prizes are kept, and are available at the end of this report. For the benefit of the Bingo players and as a fundraising activity for the Kitchen Bees Club, a Bingo snack bar is open prior to the Bingo games and during the break. The District has expenses related to Bingo; sheets to purchase, repairs to the Bingo machine and costs associated with set up for the evening. For 2012 these expenses were approximately $3500. The District Board of Trustees budgets for many of the recreational activities at Trailer Estates, absorbing those costs that they feel are appropriate given the District s focus on providing recreational facilities, activities and services for the residents. Bingo has been a regular activity for more than 40 years at Trailer Estates Park and Recreation District. It has been enjoyed by many of the residents of Trailer Estates. Due to the structure and governing authority of the District, the current arrangement for Bingo is being revised. For more information please contact Debbie G. Comeau, Continuing Recreation Trustee, or Lenora Neal, Chairman, at Note: For data on Bingo attendance and winnings, please see attachments.
