3 President s Message Dear Rancho Members, Everything comes to an end, even this season. But don t worry, you still have plenty of time to enjoy the California weather and our pools. Our last day for the main pool is September 30. The back pool will stay open through October and it will be closed after the last Aqua Aerobics class finishes their session on November 1. We will reopen the back pool in March. However, if you still want to swim during the winter months, then you have the opportunity. As always, we have morning lap swim in the main pool on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 5:30am to 7am. In addition, we decided this year to have an additional evening lap swim session on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8pm to 9pm. I d like to ask all members who would like to use the main pool during these times to register by ing the office, so we have an idea how many people will use this opportunity. Please take care of covering the pool after you are done swimming. This is especially important as the pool covers keep the heat in the pool and the club avoids excess costs. Our typical operational expenses during the winter months for the pools are between $4000 to $5000 and we don t want this to go up because the main pool is not covered. As you may have noted, we had to take the diving board out of service due to some safety concerns. We had this board inspected and decided to buy a new one since the repairs wouldn t be efficient. The new board should be installed at the beginning of September, so you can enjoy it for the rest of the season. During the August board meeting, we decided to replace the current Seasonal Sponsored Guest Pass program with an Associate membership. This will bring us in line with other cabana clubs, eliminate the need to find sponsoring members and simplify our registration process. This was also something you wished for in the survey we conducted last year. We are in the process to identify the necessary steps required for such change and will update you in the upcoming months. We have a couple more events coming up this year. The first one is Labor Day. Come stop by and enjoy a relaxing holiday with DJ Mike, watermelon and root beer floats. Second is our fall membership meeting on October 14. Third one is our Oktoberfest on October 6. Please see the Oktoberfest page and reserve your spot ASAP. Stay tuned for more information in the upcoming newsletters. I hope to see you there. Sincerely yours, Dirk Seidel, President

5 Fall Election Reminder Please Vote Look for your ballot in your mailbox around September 9. Please vote and return it as soon as possible. Due to change in Civil Code 5115, voting procedure ballots shall be mailed by first-class mail or delivered by the association to every member not less than 30 days prior to the deadline for voting. Therefore, the Fall Membership Meeting has been rescheduled for Sunday, October 14 in order to fulfill this requirement. Your vote is extremely important. If we do not receive enough votes to make a quorum (20% of members eligible to vote), our Bylaws will require us to keep going through the time and expense of mailing out ballots until a quorum is received. Absentee ballots must be received in the office or in the 286 Sorrento Way mailbox by Thursday, October 11, Ballots may also be brought in person to the Annual Election Meeting on Sunday, October 14.
