Allen County Extension Homemakers look forward to planning future events and will be working on new formats and enhancements to showcase the beautiful tradition of quilting. For more information, contact Jane Berry at or the Allen County Cooperative Extension Service at At this point, Homemaker members are asked to brainstorm different options for future quilt shows.. be creative with as many options as possible! More discussion will be held at the April council meeting and then our Plan of Work development meeting in late May, early June! Let s come up with different solutions/manpower issues as possible!

4 Tips to Get the Most Value from Your Tax Refund Pay down your debt. Use your refund for some much needed debt relief. Pay off your credit card balance. If you have an outstanding balance on more than one credit card, try to pay off the smaller, high-interest rate balances first. That will free up more funds to put toward larger balances. Alternatively, you can apply your refund toward other debts, like a car loan or a home equity loan. Save for a rainy day. Why not give yourself an even bigger return on your tax refund by putting the money into a savings account, CD, or retirement fund? Your tax refund will continue to grow if you put it into savings or invest the money. It s always helpful to have a savings account to draw from when a major car repair bill, medical emergency or other unexpected expense comes along. That way, you don t have to borrow money and add to your debt-load. Consider your financial goals. Trying t save for a house or car down payment? Hope to contribute to your child s college tuition? Consider applying your tax refund toward these goals. If you don t yet have a set of short-term and long-term financial goals, put one together. You ll be more conscientious about how you spend your refund or any other extra money that comes your way. Remember, you work hard for your money and you deserve to enjoy a healthy financial lifestyle. Put some thought into how you use your tax refund. Making smart financial decisions is not always easy, but it will definitely benefit you and your family over the long term. - See more at: We are on FACEBOOK!! Like us! 5 KENTUCKY ASPARAGUS One of the sure signs of spring in Kentucky is the appearance of our own Kentucky Asparagus. We enjoy its fresh flavor from April through May. This versatile vegetable can be eaten raw, lightly boiled, steamed, grilled, stir fried, or baked. One half cup of fresh steamed asparagus (about 6 spears) contains only 22 calories, 2 grams of protein, and 4 grams of carbohydrates. When you purchase asparagus, remember that one pound yields 4 one-half cup servings. Choose bright green stalks with tightly closed tips. Quality spears should be 6 to 8 inches in length. It is best to select spears with uniform thickness to ensure uniform cooking. Asparagus becomes tough and woody and loses its sweet flavor soon after harvest, so for peak texture and flavor, asparagus should be prepared the day it is picked or purchased. The tougher base of the stalks should not be more than one inch in thickness. When preparing asparagus, remove and discard the base of each spear by simply breaking by hand where it snaps easily. Another option is to remove the outer layer of the tough stem with a vegetable peeler. Wash asparagus with cool, running water. Asparagus will keep up to one week in the refrigerator. Store it upright with the stem ends in water or a wet paper towel in a plastic bag. Bring on Easter with this delicious Spring recipe...
