3 Next Screen, SELECT Blank Analysis r Default Analysis Default Analysis is a preppulated screen. Yu can mdify the reprt the way yu want. Blank Analysis is empty r blank frm. Just Drag and Drp data needed frm Insertable Objects n the left. CLICK Blank Analysis fr ur example. 4 Analysis Studi Definitins Insertable Objects fund n the left side f the screen (Surce Pane). This is yur data surce. Expandable Objects r Measures The plus sign + befre each bject r measure means that there are detailed list available fr each insertable bject r measure. Measures are quantitative data r values yu use t analyze data and display in yur Wrk area. Wrk Area (Rws and Clumns) This is the area where yu explre and analyze data. Data analysis can be displayed r viewed as crsstab, a chart, r bth crsstab and a chart. Overview Area (Rws, Clumns, and Cntext Filter) This is where yu set yur parameters r specific criteria and change the cntents f the Wrk area. 6 EXAMPLE #1 (Using Blank Analysis ) COGNOS REPORTS USING IR CUBES Cllege f Arts and Sciences enrllment frm Fall 2005 t Fall 2012 Please d the fllwing: Expand Insertable Objects: Cllege Select Cll f Arts and Sciences Drag and Drp t the Overview area under Cntext Filter: Select Insertable Objects: Department Drag and Drp t the Wrk area under Rws Expand Insertable Objects: Time Press CTRL in yur keybard (This will allw yu t select certain term) Nte: If yu see at the bttm f Insertable bject this icn, this means there are mre insertable bjects listed. Click this t see all listing. Select Fall 2005, Fall 2006, Fall 2007, Fall 2008, and all Fall terms t Fall 2012 Drag and Drp the terms t the Overview area under Clumns: Fr all terms, just drag and drp Time in the Wrk area under Clumns. This will shw all terms in the Objects. Expand Measures: Select, Drag, and Drp Ttal Enrllment Cunt t the Wrk area under Measure Make sure t INSERT in the rder yu want in the Wrk area, example: Cllege, department, and prgrams. This will give yu the data in that rder. In yur Reprt, yu will see there are lts f rws and clumns that are empty. We need t suppress this s that nly thse with data will be displayed: T SUPRRESS rws and clumns: At the tp menu bar select suppress icn In the ptin, select Suppress rws and clumns Yu will see that yur reprt will nly display the department with enrllment in a term. 7 T Cpy and Paste: If Cgns Reprt is n a single page, yu can use muse t highlight, cpy, and then paste t Excel r Wrd dcument. If the reprt is mre than ne page, yu can run the reprt in different frmat such as HTML, PDF, Excel r text file. G t tp right crner f the menu bar (under Help) and click this icn then, select ptin yu want. Other Useful Quick Tips In the Surce Pane: Right Click next t Insertable Objects: Use t Replace clumns r rws, Insert as Nested rws and clumns In the Wrk area: Highlight clumn heading r rw and Right Click: T change values t percentage r add percentages T change Measures r change measures calculatin Other ptins available such as delete, exclude, srt, calculate and suppress. Adjusting the Clumn Widths in the Wrk Area. Yu can adjust yur clumns t fit the data label. T adjust the clumn width: Pint yur muse t the end f the clumn line, then hld and drag left r right t fit. 10 TO START NEW ANALYSIS OR REPORT If yu are already in the IBM Cgns Analysis Studi, g t the tp menu bar It will ask yu t save the analysis if yu have an existing reprt created in the Analysis Studi. 11 USING DEFAULT ANALYSIS Frm IR CUBES main menu, CLICK any CUBE yu want. Frm FY2005 t FY2012) Expand Insertable Object: Cllege Select Cllege f Engineering and Drag and Drp t Overview area under Cntext Filter Suppress the reprt. G t tp menu bar: At the tp menu bar select suppress icn In the ptin, select Suppress rws and clumns The reprt r analysis will lk like this: T add the department fr the Cllege f Engineering: Select, Drag, and Drp Insertable Object DEPARTMENT t the Wrk area under Rws where the Cllege f Engineering is lcated. We will use Enrllment by Ethnicity frm Fall 2000 t Fall If yu are already in the IBM Cgns Analysis Studi, g t the tp menu bar If yu have a reprt in the Analysis Studi, it will ask if yu want t save the analysis.
