1 Cnner Prairie Yuth Vlunteer Histric Clthing r Travel Schlarships FAQs Cnner Prairie s Yuth Vlunteer Prgram is prvided t yu withut any participatin fee. Hwever, like mst yuth activities, yu the participant d have sme expenses, such as travel and histric cstuming. We want Cnner Prairie s Yuth Prgram t be affrdable t all, s fr the past several years we have been wrking tward develping a Yuth Histric Clthing r Travel Schlarship Prgram. Thanks t a grant frm Carmax, Cnner Prairie is able t prvide a few small yuth schlarships this year. If yu are interested, please fill ut the attached applicatin. But first, read these Frequently Asked Questins t understand hw this prcess wrks. When are applicatins due? January 4, When will I find ut if I have received a schlarship? New Yuth Interpreters will find ut February 1st, Returning Yuth Interpreters will find ut February 8 th, Hw much are the schlarships fr? We may award 3 t 4 full r partial schlarships, up t $200 per yuth. Hw will yu decide wh gets a schlarship? The schlarships will be awarded based n need, number f years in the prgram, previus aid, and a brief yuth statement telling us what they will gain frm the schlarship. We will als take Cnner Prairie s needs int cnsideratin, s if we are shrt f yuth in Lenape cstume, fr example, we might give thse yuth preference. And f curse the staff s knwledge f yur wrk ethic and ptential ability t interpret in cstume will be a factr. What can the schlarship mney be used fr? Gas reimbursement at $ per mile. Mileage will be calculated frm yur residence t Cnner Prairie. Yu may request travel mney fr vlunteer shifts and trainings, but nt parties. Cst f public transit r a transprtatin service (such as Uber, Lyft) t Cnner Prairie frm yur residence. Fabric, threads, hks and eyes, and ther materials used in a basic 1816, 1836, r 1863 cstume. The basic cstume includes the parts a yuth in cstume is required t have, but nt an ptinal item like a specialty fancy bnnet r muffatees. Yu may buy fabric thrugh Sara Gable at whlesale prices. If yu use an utside vendr, please see Sara Gable, Clthing Manager, befre purchasing t check t see if it is authentic. Perid r Reprductin Shes. Labr csts f sewing and/r alteratins. If this is yur first Cnner Prairie cstume, we will give yu the ptin f buying a used cstume ut f ur stck if we have ne in yur size. Perid articles fr sale in the Histric Clthing Rm, such as daycaps and petticats. Sme f these have been utsurced. Used cstumes frm anther yuth r staff member. (Please submit these fr apprval befre buying.) What if I spend mre than $200? That s fine, just remember anything beynd yur designated schlarship amunt cmes ut f yur pcket.

2 2 When will I receive the schlarship mney? Anything yu purchase directly frm Cnner Prairie Histric Clthing (thrugh Sara Gable), such as ut-f-stck cstumes r fabric, will have n upfrnt cst t yu. Sara will bill the Yuth Department directly. Anything else is generally dne as a reimbursement. The parent pays the bill, turns the receipt int Sarah Mrin (Yuth Staff), and Sarah has Accunting issue a check t the parent. This is the easiest way fr Accunting t prcess the mney and fr us t be sure we are paying the exact right amunt. Checks are cut n a biweekly basis and will take anther 3 days r s t g thrugh the mail. Travel schlarships are dne as reimbursements. Fr public transit, turn in yur receipts t Sarah Mrin. Fr gas reimbursements, we will issue checks nce a mnth based n the number f times yu vlunteered the previus mnth multiplied by the mileage frm yur residence t Cnner Prairie. A special nte n clthing labr csts: If yu, grandma, Uncle Ed, r a friend is sewing yur cstume ut f the gdness f their hearts, labr is free! If yu are having a prfessinal sewist make the garment: 1. We prefer t reimburse the parents after they have paid the sewist. The parent pays the sewist, then turns the invice in t the Yuth Staff. We have Accunting cut a check t the parent. 2. If the parent cannt frnt the payment, they get an invice frm the sewist befre they pick the garment up. The parent turns the invice int the Yuth Staff. Accunting cuts a check directly t the sewist. We will either mail the check t the sewist r give it t the parent t hand t the sewist upn picking up the garment. 3. If the sewist is a Cnner Prairie emplyee, they will be paid thrugh Cnner Prairie Payrll. They must have permissin frm Human Resurces and have a special sewist pay rate registered with Payrll. The sewist will prvide the yuth parent and Cnner Prairie Yuth Staff an estimate f the time it will take t make the garment upfrnt. The sewist lgs their hurs and turns them int Payrll t receive payment fr the wrk n the garment. A cpy f the actual hurs will als be turned int the Yuth Staff and Accunting. Which sewists may I use? Any! - as lng as they meet with Sara Gable t fllw Cnner Prairie guidelines! Bring yur sewist t yur clthing appintment if yu knw wh it is. Sara Gable als has a list f sewists wh are familiar with ur standards, if yu prefer. Please see special nte abve if yu are using a CP emplyee t sew yur cstume. Sara Gable and the Histric Clthing Staff d nt generally sew yuth cstumes fr sale. When is the schlarship perid? Our Carmax grant perid ends at the end f summer, s we can nly reimburse receipts dated July 31, 2019 r earlier. Please turn in all receipts n r befre August 1.
