Dakota Precision Ag Center (a North Dakota Center of Excellence) works closely with the Adult Farm Management program to enhance the economic compeveness of North Dakota farmers and ranchers through the use of technological advancements and effecve management skills. TrainND Northeast of Lake Region State College works to provide employers in the northeast quadrant of the state with quality, mely, customized workplace training and services. These outreach services have created the need for a technology training facility with classrooms/labs, offices, and bulk storage space for equipment and training aids. 16 Priority No. 2: Student Center Mul-purpose Addion: a) This project consists of an addion of approximately 22,400 square feet of new space on two levels, as well as just over 5,000 square feet of renovated space at the exisng Lake Region State College main building. The proposed spaces will provide needed updates to the Early Childhood Learning Lab and the Visual Arts programs, as well as provide classroom spaces for Music Educaon, Band, Fitness Trainer Technician program, and HPER (Health, Physical Educaon and Recreaon) courses. The project also includes administrave offices for student government, assembly and meeng rooms for college personnel, and interior spaces flexible enough to accommodate larger seminars and workshops. The college first listed a version of this expansion project in the 2008 Master Plan as a top priority for the Biennium. In-depth planning with an architectural firm was completed for the 2012 version of the Master Plan when it became apparent this project needed to move up on the LRSC priority list. Renovated interior spaces will ulize the exisng major area building shell, and exisng heang, venlaon, plumbing, and electrical systems will be able to remain mostly intact within the renovated areas. Newly-constructed areas will have new building systems as part of the construcon. b) Total project costs include the following item esmates, developed by examining industry standards and RS Means: 22,400 sq.. building addion & Renovaon $3,228,156 Demolion 180,972 Site Work & Ulies 75,000 Planning, Permits & Insurance 348,413 Conngency 348,413 FFE 200,000 Total Project Esmate $4,380, L A K E R E G I O N S TAT E C O L L E G E C A M P U S M A S T E R P L A N 12

17 c) Funding is requested from state appropriaons for the enre project at this me. d) Deferred maintenance esmated in the amount of $266,000 would be addressed during the construcon of the addion. e) Addional ulity costs are esmated to be approximately $28,000 per year. Although no addional custodial or maintenance staff would be hired, custodial and maintenance costs would be about $3,500 per year. Funding for these addional costs would be incorporated into exisng appropriaons. f) Full-me on-campus enrollments have been trending downward. This project will provide aracve, funconal spaces needed for student parcipaon acvies and academic space needs of the instuon. Noise containment for the band will be an important feature in this space. The Fitness Trainer Program and Early Childhood Development lab are currently located off-campus and it will be much more conducive to student learning to have these operaons on campus. To be involved in music currently, students only have an off-campus opon; having a band on campus again will interest many students. A vibrant Student Center will bolster student recruitment and retenon efforts. FIGURE 30 Exisng Student Union & Dining L A K E R E G I O N S TAT E C O L L E G E C A M P U S M A S T E R P L A N
