2 YESTERDAY IN THE INTERNATIONAL MARKETS Global Ticker Daily Change Global Markets Gain; Oil & Gold Slump U.S. stocks were little changed, after the Standard & Poor s 500 Index briefly climbed above its previous closing record, as better-thanforecast corporate results offset a slump in commodities producers. The S&P 500 increased 0.1 percent to 2, at 4 p.m. in New York, to close within three points of an all-time high set two months ago. The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed points, or less than 0.1 percent, to 18, The Nasdaq Composite Index gained 0.2 percent to extend its record. About 6.3 billion shares changed hands on U.S. exchanges, in line with the three-month average. Takeover activity and receding concerns over Greece sent European stocks up for a ninth day. The Stoxx Europe 600 Index rose 0.3 percent to at the close of trading in London. 3 THE ASX YESTERDAY IN REVIEW AUS Ticker Change ASX Modest Gain; Shanghai 3 rd Positive Day The ASX200 started the week with a gain of 0.24 per cent. The market lost some ground early in the day, however recovered well and finished strong. The sectors had mixed results yesterday however the only big mover was Information technology, gaining 2.31 per cent. The worst performer was Energy, losing 0.87 per cent. Chinese stocks rose for a third day as small companies rallied and the benchmark index posted the smallest price swings since a market rout began. The Shanghai Composite Index climbed 0.9 percent to 3, at the close, after trading within a range of 2.4 percentage points, the narrowest since June 12. The ChiNext index jumped 2.3 percent, extending a rebound from the July 7 low to 21 percent, as technology shares surged. A total of 576 companies were suspended on mainland exchanges Monday, or 20 percent of total listings, down from 635 at the close Friday. For the month of June the airport saw an increase in total traffic of 2.1 per cent and year to date increase of 2.1 per cent, when compared to the previous corresponding period. Domestic traffic grew by 1.7 per cent and international traffic by 2.8 per cent, for both periods.
