2 YESTERDAY IN THE INTERNATIONAL MARKETS Global Ticker Daily Change U.S. Stocks Advance as Crude Oil Rebounds U.S. stocks advanced, with the S&P 500 Index halting a two-day decline, as crude oil s biggest gain in three weeks spurred a rally in energy producers while corporate earnings helped boost financial companies. A late-day surge pushed equities higher, with oil and gas companies rising the most in three weeks as crude jumped 3.3 percent on weekly supply data. The S&P 500 rose 0.3 percent to 2, at 4 p.m. in New York, rebounding after its steepest decline in almost a month yesterday. Some stronger-than-estimated financial results and speculation that central banks will maintain loose monetary policies have helped underpin equities near record levels. 3 THE ASX YESTERDAY IN REVIEW AUS Ticker Change ASX Declines 1.4% as Banking Shares Fall European banks declined sharply overnight and also Australia s banks were not immune. The S&P/ASX 200 fell 1.4 per cent as Australia s major banks dragged the market lower. German bank Commerzbank warned that negative interest rates will cut profits. The ASX 200 closed at 5466 points, 75 points below Tuesday s close, while the All Ordinaries shed 71 points to All major industry groups fell with the exception of the S&P/ASX All Ordinaries Gold Index, which gained 3.1 per cent. Financials was the worst performing sector falling 2 per cent, followed by Utilities and Information Technology, down 1.8 and 1.6 per cent respectively. The local Volatility Index jumped 9% to 16.2 points. The Seven Group Holdings (SVW) gained 7.7% to $7.18 on a full year statutory profit of $197.8 million. Wise-owl is attracted to its strong cash flow, high degree recurring income and earnings trajectory. Whilst a degree of further growth is required to support its valuation, ongoing penetration potential of its cloud products provides a favourable capital growth outlook. MYOB recently acquired Auckland based enterprise planner Greentree. The stock of Seven West Media tumbled 25% in two days after the company released its financial reports for FY16. Revenue declined 3%, while profit after tax was essentially flat, however investors reacted to Seven West s outlook statement. The company expects challenging conditions and increasing costs for sport events including the Olympics which will see earnings decline 15-20%.
