2 Market Overview US The Government shutdown extended into new year with little sign of progress. Equities around the world rose on Monday as possible progress in trade dispute between the United States and China. The U.S. benchmark S&P 500 stock index advanced in light trading volume. Asia Pacific China's consumption tax revenue was up 16.3% year-to-date. However, from September, it collapsed. Value-added tax revenue has also turned negative in the past three months. All this is a sign that the economy's deterioration is more rapid and pronounced than the government has let on.
