3 Athletics programs KC PARKS COMMUNITY CENTERS YOUTH PROGRAMS Youth Ice Skating Lessons (AGES 3-17) We offer a number of ice skating classes in progressive skill levels for skaters of all ages and abilities. The winning team will be awarded t-shirts. Duration: 8 week program Fee: $325 per team Women s Summer Basketball League (AGES 18+) This recreational basketball league gives women the opportunity to play basketball in a safe and organized setting. The winning team will be awarded t-shirts. Duration: 8 week program Fee: $250 per team Men s 4-on-4 Basketball Tournament (AGES 18+) Teams of four will go head-to-head in this competitive basketball tournament. Two age brackets will play on separate nights. Duration: 2 week program Fee: $125 per team 24

4 Women s Flag Football Tournament (AGES 18+) Get your friends together and get ready to test your mettle in this women-only flag football tournament! May 13 Fee: $125 per team Heartland Heat Triathlon (AGES 18+) This annual sprint triathlon is hosted in Tiffany Hills Park and at the Springs Aquatic Center. Participants will swim 400 meters, ride 12 miles, then finish with a 5K. Medals are provided to the age division winners. Location: Tiffany Hills Park Date: September 5 Fee: $65 thru September 4 /$95 on race day Relay Fee: $80 thru September 4/$110 on race day Wheelchair Basketball (AGES 16+) Through a partnership with the Recreation Council of Greater Kansas City, we re excited to bring you wheelchair basketball! Practices are for anyone who would like to try the sport, chair or no. Extra chairs will be on hand. Location: Gregg/Klice Duration Ongoing program FREE Spring Dodgeball Tournament (AGES 8-15) This is the last of our seasonal dodgeball series. Teams of five to ten players will go head-to-head to determine the dodgeball champion. Location: Garrison Date:, May 23 Fee: Free Co-Ed Kickball League (AGES 18+) A fun, recreational league that gives men and women the chance to play kickball in an organized and safe environment. Games will be held at the Pleasant Valley Park Athletic Complex. Spring and Summer leagues are available. The net, ball, and sideline markers all glow under our blacklights. Limited blacklight paint will be available to players. 5 aquatics programs KC PARKS COMMUNITY CENTERS Swim TEAM (AGES 8-14) This intro to swim team provides youth with the opportunity to experience being part of a competitive team while honing their skills. To join the team, swimmers must be able to swim the length of the pool without stopping. Location: Tony Aguirre Duration: 4 week program Fee: $15 ALL AGES Private Swim Lessons These are one-on-one swim lessons perfect for any age and any ability. Individual attention on your schedule helps to ensure you ll build the skills you need to be a strong swimmer. Location: Tony Aguirre Southeast Duration: By appointment Fee: $20 per lesson YOUTH PROGRAMS Parent-Infant Swim Lessons (AGES 3 & under) This class is ideal for acclimating children under three to the water. With the help of an adult they get to explore the water, learn to float, blow bubbles, and move through the water safely. Location: Tony Aguirre Southeast Duration: 4 week program Session Fee: $40 Preschool Swim Lessons (AGES 3-5) Swim lessons for youth taught by certified instructors. This class will help introduce your preschooler to the water and teach the basics of swimming such as breathing, floating, and kicking. Location: Gregg/Klice Tony Aguirre Southeast Duration: Twice a week for 4 weeks OR Once a week for 8 weeks Session Fee: $40 Youth Swim Lessons (AGES 6-15) This class will orient children to the aquatic environment and begin working on basic aquatic swimming skills. Children will be taught how to enter and exit water, float, breathe, and how to use their arms and legs to swim. Beginners can learn the basics and advance in a safe environment, while those with more experience can brush up on their skills. Location: Gregg/Klice Tony Aguirre Southeast Duration: 8 week program Session Fee: $40 Aqua Stretch (AGES 18+) This aquatic fitness class uses the natural resistance of water with the assistance of special equipment to provide a workout that will help improve strength and flexibility. Duration: 8 week program Session Fee: $35 Water Aerobics (AGES 18+) Our certified instructor will help you use aquatic-designed equipment while you perform resistance and cardiovascular work for a high intensity workout. Location: Gregg/Klice Drop-in Fee: $5 senior PROGRAMS Arthritis Aquatics (AGES 60+) This water exercise class will improve your overall cardiovascular health, increase flexibility, and improve strength and muscle tone while putting minimal stress on your joints. Location: Gregg/Klice Southeast Duration: Ongoing Drop-in Fee: $2 Silver Splash (AGES 60+) Silver Splash is an instructional water aerobics class that uses the natural resistance of water to help patrons maintain strength, agility and flexibility. 6 creative expressions programs Advanced Dance (AGES 6-12) We offer four different dance classes for youth who have moved beyond the basics. Choose from: Advanced Tap, Advanced Acrobatics, Advanced Ballet or Advanced Jazz/Hip Hop. Duration: 4 week program Fee: $20 ALL AGES Beginning Music Lessons (AGES 6+) Learn to express yourself through music! During our weekly 30 minute classes, instructors will teach you how to read music and play instruments. Keyboards are on sight for those who want to learn piano. Students provide their own woodwinds, brass or percussion. Location: By appointment Duration: 4 week program Session Fee: $40 DIY Home and Craft Series (AGES 12+) This exciting do-it-yourself series will introduce you to making your own home and bath products like scrubs, soaps, body butters and candles. Duration: 3 week program Drop-in Fee: $10 YOUTH PROGRAMS Art in the Park (AGES 5-12) Art and nature both surround us why not combine them? Join us in learning about nature while making crafts from the little things we find outside every day. Duration: 1 week program Drop-in Fee: $10 Beginner Preschool Dance (AGES 3-5) We offer three different classes designed to introduce your preschooler to movement and dance. Choose from: Acrobatics, Jazz/Hip Hop or Intro to Dance. Duration: 4 week program Fee: $20 Youth Art Class (AGES 5-11) This class is great for the curious artist! Our instructor will introduce you to painting, drawing, and crafting, and help you unlock your creativity. All forming techniques will be introduced, including: hand building, throwing on the potter s wheel, and sculpture. Choose from two step, line dance or salsa. Students will focus on physical conditioning while learning and improving technique through speed bags and sparring with partners. 8 Group Tennis Classes (AGES 18+) This is an instructional beginner s class which focuses on developing hand-eye coordination and racquet skills. The emphasis is on leisure play, but students will be encouraged toward competitive play. Choose between indoor and outdoor instruction. These classes are great for beginners and the more advanced. Participants will get their hearts pumping and their muscles toned while experiencing the fun of a group workout session. Participants at any level will find something to do as they practice stationary cardiovascular exercises. 9 Education & leisure programs KC PARKS COMMUNITY CENTERS Parents Night Out (AGES 5-15) With Parents Night Out, adults can register their kids in a fun and safe program in which they can play games, sports, do arts and crafts, and hang out, leaving parents free for a night off. Families can participate in games, sports, and open swim. Location: Marlborough Hillcrest Duration: 4 week program Fee: Free Habitat Hikes (AGES 7+) Our habitat hikes allow you to explore some of the natural ecosystems found in and around Swope Park. Depending on the season, we offer a study of wetlands, forests, or glades. Location: Lakeside Nature Center Duration: 1 class, by appointment Fee: $6 Homeschool Science Lab (AGES 6-11) This is a great chance for groups of homeschoolers to learn about native wildlife. During each class, students will explore plants, animals, and their native habitats. Topics include mammals, amphibians, birds of prey, nature hikes, and more. Location: Lakeside Nature Center Duration: 4 week program, by appointment Fee: $6 Parks Playplace (AGES 2-5) Bring your tots to enjoy our indoor playground! This is a great time for little ones to run around, make friends, and burn off some of that energy! Note: This is not a drop-off program. All children must be attended by a guardian. Duration: 13 week program Drop-in Fee: $1 Rainy Day Activities (AGES 6-17) Join us in learning about creative, fun, and inexpensive activities to break out when you re stuck inside on a rainy day! Duration: 4 week program Drop-in Fee: $10 Reading for Success (AGES 5-13) This program is for kids who want to strengthen their reading skills. We will work on reading fundamentals such as comprehension, phonics and pronunciation. Location: Hillcrest Duration: 8 week program Fee: Free Wildlife and Environmental Education (AGES 6+) Missouri is home to thousands of fascinating species of plants and animals. At Lakeside Nature Center, we offer a number of classes for budding naturalists to learn about and explore the wildlife found in and around Kansas City. Groups of 10 minimum. Choose from: Birds of Prey Bugs Among Us Fantastic Frogs, Feathers, Fur, Slimes, and Scales Radical Reptiles Wildlife Connection Location: Lakeside Nature Center Duration: 1 class, by appointment Drop-in Fee: $5 Youth Zone (AGES 11-17) Youth Zone is an after school program that provides fun, structured activities in a safe and friendly environment. Students can play games, receive homework assistance, listen to guest speakers, join a drill team and more! This is a great opportunity to enjoy a hot meal while socializing with friends. Join one of our senior cards clubs! Enjoy your favorite card games while relaxing with friends. Participants will get a better understanding of computer functions and software, the Internet, and social media. 11 Community Center Special Events KC PARKS COMMUNITY CENTERS Senior Sadie Hawkins Spring Fling (AGES 60+) This Sadie Hawkins dance brings seniors together for fellowship and fun! A raffle will be held during the dance for a grand prize.
