2 MEET THE HOST COMMITTEE: DUNCAN JAMIESON Where do you call home? While I grew up and went to school in Montreal and Ottawa, I have lived in Metcalfe (South of Ottawa) for the past 40 years. We really enjoy the people and country way of life out here. Retired or working? After working for Transport Canada for 25 years, I retired 7 years ago. However, that doesn t mean that I am not busy. We served our farm and built a couple of houses, which has provided a home base for our family. When I m not busy at home, we are at our cottage North of Ottawa. Best thing about Curling? Other than winning, it s great fun to curl in social events, especially the smaller bonspiels up the Ottawa Valley. The people are great and it s good to get away for a weekend. Over the years, I have made many good friends and seem to meet someone I know in most clubs I go into. Curlers are good people. Where did you throw your first curling rock? It would have been at the Ottawa Curling Club when I curled in high school. I also curled junior at the RCN Curling clun and the RA. Do you remember your first skip? My first skip in Men s Curling was John Winford. He was a great student and teacher of the game, good friend and my first introduction to competitive curling. I learned a lot from John. Volunteer Experience? I used to volunteer with my kids hockey and baseball teams, as most parents do. I ve also entertained the Vets at the Pearly Home, organized curling bonspiels, president of Metcalfe Curling Club, Ontario Curling Association club rep, organized cottage regattas, and played music at various curling clubs. Why did you volunteer for the 2016 Tim Hortons Brier? I ve been very fortunate to participate in many great curling events that are all run by volunteers. This is my opportunity to help out the sport that has been so good to me over the years. It also will allow me to stay in touch with the curling world, even though I no longer curl regularly. These events are only as good as the volunteers and ours in the Ottawa Valley are among the best. Hosting the 2016 Tim Hortons Brier brings a lot of excitement to the area, what are you most excited about? I am looking forward to seeing the fans and watching some amazing curling, and hope that many non-curlers come and check things out. Some people my get bit by the curling bug while watching the pros. We will have great ice and the best environment to enjoy the games and afterwards, the Patch. 550 Volunteers are needed to host the 2016 Tim Hortons Brier, what can they expect? I hope the volunteers enjoy hosting the Brier in Ottawa. I think they will be very excited when the curlers and fans start to arrive. It will be a very busy and satisfying two weeks. 2
