2 Public Hearing Notice A public hearing will be held for the Greene County Pre-Disaster Mitigation Plan Update on Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at 5:00pm at 1034 Silver Drive, Suite 201 Greensboro, GA The purpose of this hearing will be to inform citizens of the planning process and to obtain input into the development of the plan update. Representatives from the Pre- Disaster Mitigation Planning Committee and the Northeast Georgia Regional Commission will present information and receive comments. 6 PUBLIC HEARING GREENE COUNTY PRE-DISASTER MITIGATION PLAN UPDATE Date: Wednesday June 27, 2012 Time: 5:00 p.m. Where: Greene County Board of Commissioners Chambers 1034 Silver Drive Suite 201 Greensboro, GA Since 2005, natural hazard events have resulted in nearly half a million dollars in property damage in Greene County.* On Wednesday June 27th, the first of two public hearings will be held for the Greene County Pre-Disaster Mitigation Plan Update. This hearing will be facilitated by Northeast Georgia Regional Commission (NEGRC) staff. Agenda Overview of the hazard mitigation planning process Natural hazards that may occur in Greene County Critical community facilities The public will have an opportunity to submit feedback at the public hearing and through an online questionnaire. Required for Federal Grant Eligibility Annually: Pre-Disaster Mitigation Competitive (PDM-C) Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) Post Disaster: Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) One of the first questions you will be asked: Do you have a hazard mitigation plan? Others Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 (DMA2K) requires a local plan to be in place for the above programs Emphasizes a proactive approach to emergency management prevent damages before the disaster

(dollars, numbers, etc.) Develop goals & strategies to reduce long-term risks and/or vulnerabilities

37 Questionnaire Results Continued Many residents expressed a lack of knowledge about emergency operations Warnings and notification during hazard events was the mostexpressed concern Many residents requested information about storm shelters and evacuation procedures Several residents expressed a desire for new tornado sirens throughout the County There were no structural projects or specific project sites mentioned as candidates for hazard mitigation
