Calgary Catholic Education Foundation- The Calgary Catholic Education Foundation has partnered with the Calgary Stampeders in a ticket fundraiser. Purchase tickets to the June 16 home opener game against the Hamilton Tiger Cats or the June 28 th game against the Ottawa Blacks at a discounted rate of $27. $5 from every ticket purchased will come back to our school. Visit the CSSD website for further details and the link to the purchase the tickets.
4 b. Alberta Education Transportation Survey- Alberta Education has put out a public parent survey regarding student transportation. This is a great opportunity for parents to provide their feedback on bus transportation to/from school. The information gathered in the survey will be used by the government to inform decisions regarding future K-12 student transportation regulations including walk distance, eligibility for transportation and funding for the services. I will share the information via the room reps in case anyone missed the that came out from the school. It s important that we don t miss this opportunity to provide feedback. The survey closes on June 15 th. 6. ADMINISTRATION REPORT Carla Rea Gilmour- Vice Principal a. CCC : Final Assembly/Awards will be on June 5 th. Final Champion group activity will ne a clean up outside of playground, fields, perimeter of school. b. Daddy Donut Day- Will be held on June 15 th from 8am-9am so please save the date. Coffee and donuts will be served to celebrate our dads. Invites to be sent home next week. c. Talent Showcase- Will be held on June 25 th with Division I at 9:30am and Division II at 1:00pm. Letter will be sent home with permission slips. Deadline for return of slips is May 30 th. Previews will begin first wee of June. d. Brebeuff Band and Strings- Will be performing at SMG on June 8 th from 1:20pm-2:20pm e. Grade 6 Legacy Project- They have decorated a bench to be placed outdoors at the Hawkwood Community Carden. f. Career Day- Will be on June 22 nd. Leadership day the students come to school dressed in outfits of their favourite careers or what they would like to be when they grow up. Collection for St. Vincent de Paul will be taken. Thank you to all the generous donations and support of leadership days as $2, was raised. Michael Macdonald- Principal a. Staffing- Just an update to let everyone know we have not received allocation of Teacher s for next year. Mrs. Carla Rae-Gilmour has been reassigned to St. James School and we want to wish her all the best and thank her for all her hard work and dedication to our SMG community. She will be missed. Mrs. Collins will be retiring this year and we want to say thank you for all her hard work and dedication over the years. She will also be missed. Mrs. Minutoli has completed her probation year and will be getting a full-time job at another school as she needs to apply. Mrs. Donnelly will be coming back half time to teach Grade 5. Mrs. Green is going to be teaching next year at St. Mary s. b. Fees- There will be no increase in fees this year. Kindergarten will be $70.00 and Grade 1-6 $75.00 and $80.00 lunchroom supervision charge. c. Grade 6 Achievement Tests- Are coming up soon. May 30 th is the Language Arts section and May 23 rd is Math. June 1 st is Religion. Four core subjects are tested and they include: Math, Language Arts, Science and Social Studies. Students typical experience a lot of anxiety and pressure about these tests and we would like to encourage everyone to reassure students that is only one test on one day for a couple hours and is only reflective of that one day, not their entire academic accomplishments thus far. It is good preparation for moving on to Junior High and helps the system evaluate if things are appropriate and fair. d. Progress Reports- Will be going home June 28 th, the final day of school. Families may be able to get them earlier if they will not be here on that day. They will need to send a self-addressed envelope if leaving really early so they can be mailed out.
5 7. TEACHERS REPORT- None 8. COMMITTEE REPORTS a. Grade 6 Farewell- The theme is Dr. Seuss- OH! The Places You Will Go! This will be a surprise for the graduating students, make your own sandwiches will be served and a Now (Grade 6) and Then (Kindergarten) presentations will take place. This will be on June 27 th. b. Spring BBQ- Was held on Friday, May 5 th. Registered Attendees: Adults 216 Children 225 Total= 441 people Game Tickets Sold- Bean Tickets 242 Carnival Tickets Overall was well received and operated fairly smoothly. Suggestions for improvement have been recorded and will be shared with next coordinator. A big thank you to Sarah with Fun Lunches for being so helpful in setting up registration and keeping everyone informed. Thank you to Jacqueline, Volunteer Coordinator and Room Reps for getting updates out quickly so families were kept updated about the event and deadline. Thank you to Kim, Council Chair for helping with the organization of the event and all its details. 9. NEW BUSINESS a. Nominations and Elections- Chair sends out a big thank you to current Executive, coordinators and school volunteers, it takes a village to make an awesome community. Kim Yablonski and Roseangela DeVincenzo will complete their 2 nd year if their two year term as Chair and Vice Chair, respectively. Zena Kuzieg has resigned as Treasurer as this is her last year at SMG, thank you for everything. Nadia Scarpino is running for Treasurer (uncontested) and Ginger Bowes is running for Secretary (uncontested). By acclimation, the School Council positions will be held by the following members: Kim Yablonski Roseangela DeVincenzo Nadia Scarpino Ginger Bowes Chair Vice Chair Treasurer Secretary b. Volunteer Vacancies for For our committees next year we have several parents that have indicated they wish to continue as the coordinator and new parents that have expressed interest. We still have several Coordinator roles that are vacant or we are in need of one more person to join. These committees include: Community Liaison, Staff Appreciation, Environmental Liaison, Language Liaison, Fundraising, Grade 6 Farewell, Lost & Found, School Supplies and La Befana. If there s anyone here that is interested in finding out more about any of these opportunities or knows someone that would be great fit, please speak with Rosangela or myself. 10.
