3 STYRIA IN NUMBERS FOREWORD Fotoatelier Robert Frankl Dear Readers, The province of Styria is beautiful and diverse. Be it her natural beauty, the economy, culture, sports, science or her vibrant club organizations, Styria offers so much in every aspect. This brochure, Styria in Numbers, sums up this variety in numbers, giving a precise overview. Things are going very well at present. During the past two years, about 1.5 billion Euros have been invested in creating more affordable living; both public transportation and the digital highway have been expanded in the region; the quality of health care continues to rise, and unemployment has dropped. Regional development projects are supported throughout Styria more than 400 and counting. We are developing these places with an eye on the future. I hope you enjoy reading about us. I would like to thank all those who worked on this project, as well as to express my gratitude to our partners who are committed to an ever- thriving Styria! Sincerely, Mag. Michael Schickhofer Vice-Governor of Styria GETTYIMAGES/PETER HOWELL 5
