3 Foreword This publication contains statistical data on the position of women and men, and on gender equality in Finland. The publication is useful at lectures, meetings or anywhere else where you might need to produce quick factual data as a basis of discussion. The tables and graphs of the publication are clear and simple and include explanations of the most important concepts used. Statistics concerning gender equality are here mainly examined by the statistical topic division used by Statistics Finland, but data from other sources are also included. The tables and graphs are designed to give a realistic picture of the position of women and men in different fields of society. February 2012 Jari Tarkoma Director Population Statistics
