ITEM BACKGROUND: The Cudjoe Regional Wastewater project team (FKAA & County Staff) continues to receive requests to convert areas designated to receive low pressure (grinder pump) service to gravity collection. FKAA is developing and will present a comprehensive review of the remaining areas to be served by low pressure systems with cost estimates for additional areas that have expressed interest in conversion to gravity collection should additional areas be converted. PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION: On 11 December 2013 the BOC directed staff to obtain cost proposals and recommendations whether additional areas of the Cudjoe Regional sewer system should be converted from low pressure to gravity collection. The BOCC directed staf to report back in January In early January 2014, the BOCC set a special meeting for 31 January 2014 to hear the report. On October 16, 2013, the BOCC approved conversion of a number of neighborhoods including Buttonwood and Allamanda Drives on Lower Sugarloaf; Loggerhead Lane of Upper Sugarloaf; several streets in Cudjoe Gardens and Cudjoe Shores; and portions of Eden Pines, Doctors Arm; Big Pine North, and Big Pine South neighborhoods. The quoted cost of those conversions was $10.1 million. In July 2013 the BOCC approved a $122,010 expansion of the service area to include six properties on Upper Sugarloaf using low pressure technology. In January 2013 the BOCC approved adding 154 additional properties to the central service area using low pressure technology at a cost of $1.8 million.
