1 City Manager Briefing Report July 2012 Eric M. Soroka, ICMA-CM City Manager This report is prepared in order to inform the City Commission of the status of major projects and ongoing matters. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. CIP The update of the Capital Improvement Program was adopted at the July Commission meeting. Preparation of 2012/13Budget In Process. The 2012/13 budget document was presented to the City Commission on July 10, At the July 19, 2012 Meeting, the City Commission reviewed the budget document, adopted the recommended tax rate and set the budget public hearing dates for input from the public on September 11, 2012 and September 19, Renewable Energy Devices Amendment to the Land Development Code This Ordinance is scheduled for second reading at the September Commission meeting. Self-Storage Facilities as a Conditional Use in the Medical Office District Amendment This Ordinance is scheduled for second reading at the September Commission meeting. City Manager Briefing Report
2 Proposed Text Amendment to TC1 Zoning District to add Lifestyle Center as a Permitted Use This Ordinance is scheduled for first reading at the September Commission meeting. Proposed Ordinance Creating Art in Public Places Advisory Board This Ordinance is scheduled for first reading at the September Commission meeting. Aventura City of Excellence School Highlights Third Amendment to the Charter School Contract with Miami-Dade School Board was approved by the City and School Board, which increases enrollment by 12 students each year over the next five years. Preparation is underway for the new school year which begins August 20, Police Department Statistics & Highlights Monthly Crime Overview Crimes from May 2012 and June 2012 that Increased: Aggravated Assault up by 5; Theft-Auto up by 2. Crimes from May 2012 and June 2012 that decreased: Robbery down by 1; Simple Assault down by 13; Burglary down by 4; Larceny down by 8. City Manager Briefing Report 2
3 Calls for service for June 2011 compared to June 2012 decreased by 160. Officer James Hayton was named police officer of the month. City Manager Briefing Report 3

Country Club Drive Right Turn Lane at 34 th Avenue The County has agreed to allow the City to add the turning lane. The project is included in the 2012/13 Capital Budget. 6 Major Capital Improvement Projects Status Report Aventura Founders Park Improvements This project consists of replacing exercise equipment, pour in place surfacing and shade covers for bleachers. Mall Informational Sign Biscayne Boulevard Decorative Lighting Improvements Phase I Country Club Drive Bus Shelters NE 191 ST NE 188 ST NE 31 Avenue Asphalt Overlay Aventura Police Department Training Build Out Biscayne Boulevard Decorative Lighting Improvements Phase II In Process Street lights are being fabricated and are expected to be delivered to the contractor by September 1, Project limits allow for placement of twenty (20) new poles on the east side of Biscayne between the south side of the Lehman Causeway south to the main entrance to Loehmann s Plaza. The project is scheduled by contract to be substantially completed the day before Thanksgiving, November 28, Government Center Parking Expansion In Process This project consists of adding a parking deck adjacent to the Government Center. The firm of PGAL was selected to perform architectural services for this project.
