This project was also included in the City s Capital Improvement Plan (attached). Five bids were received March 30 th for the 2017 Pavement Improvement Project. The work generally consists of roadway resurfacing of approximately 4.5 miles of residential streets including, but not limited to 76,000 syds of cold milling HMA, 14,000 lft of curb and gutter replacement, 10,000 sft of sidewalks and ramps, 15,000 tons of HMA, drainage structure adjustments, pavement markings and other miscellaneous work items. Cambourne Ferndale, MI., ATTN.: Mr. Loyd Cureton, DPW Director RE: 2017 Pavement Improvement Project, Contract PR Dear Mr. Cureton, Bids for the 2017 Pavement Improvement Project were received on March 30th, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. and were opened publicly and read aloud. A total of five bids were received ranging from a low of $3,348, to $3,652, The low bid was submitted by Florence Cement Co., Mile Road, Shelby Twp., MI 48315, (586) The second low bid was submitted by AJAX Paving Company at $3,583, One bid was rejected as the bid form was not submitted in accordance with the bidding requirements. Florence Cement has been in business since 1966 and are a union contractor. Florence Cement is primarily a paving contractor and has completed a significant amount of work in southeast Michigan. Florence Cements bid for construction work (excluding inspection) was $3,208, This amount includes $621,907 of work that was added to the paving portion of the bond issue (see below itemization). 5 The 2017 paving program includes approximately 1 mile of road repairs in which the entire blocks will receive new curb and gutters. Based on the submittal of the low bid, we recommend that the contract be awarded to Florence Cement Company at the original bid amount of $3,348, Final payment will be based on unit prices quoted in the Proposal based on final field measurements.
