1 Agenda No. CITY OF FERNDALE REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION FROM: SUBJECT: LaReina Wheeler, Parks & Recreation Director Recommendation to Approve Bid for Harding Park Decorative Concrete Walk SUMMARY & BACKGROUND: The Park Improvement Plan (PIP) for Harding Park was approved by City Council on July 24, The PIP includes creative sitting area pathway s on the west and east side of the park for a total budgeted amount of $90,000. Quotes were requested from 4 concrete contractors that have performed work for the City in the past (GM & Sons, Ed White Concrete, Hartwell Cement, and Doan Companies). The lowest bid was from GM & Sons in the amount of $48, ($41,010 below the budgeted amount). The second low bid was submitted by Doan Construction Co. at $64,975. Ed White Concrete and Hartwell Cement did not submit bids. GM & Sons bid is lower than the budgeted amount for this project ($90,000), saving the city $41,010. Based on the submittal of the low bid, P&RD and DPW supports Giffels & Webster recommendation to award the contract to GM & Sons Inc. in the base bid amount of $48, Should Council approve the proposed Bid Award the contract will be executed and work will begin at the site. Cambourne Ferndale, MI., ATTN.: Mr. Loyd Cureton, DPW Director RE: Harding Park Decorative Concrete Walks Dear Mr. Cureton, Bids for the Harding Park Decorative Concrete Walks were received via on September 7th, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Due to the tight schedule to complete the project this fall, bids were by invitation and sent to four (4) qualified concrete contractors who have previously performed work for the City of Ferndale. Two (2) bids were submitted for this project. The bid of $48, was submitted by GM & Sons, 6784 Whitmore Lake Road, Whitmore Lake, MI (734) The second low bid was submitted by Doan Construction Co. at $64, Ed White Concrete and Hartwell Cement did not submit bids. GM & Sons have been in business since 1992 and has performed a lot of work within the City including the decorative concrete sidewalks on West Nine Mile. Based on the submittal of the low bid and previous experience, we recommend that the contract be awarded to GM & Sons Inc., at the base bid amount of $48, Final payment will be based on unit prices quoted in the Proposal based on final field measurements.
