1 UPPINGHAM SCHOOL Electrician JOB DETAILS General Uppingham Schl, funded in 1584, is ne f Britain s leading c-educatinal independent barding schls, set in an attractive Rutland market twn. As a barding schl there is a strng sense f cmmunity. Almst 800 pupils live n site 24/7 and are accmmdated in 15 barding huses, taught by tw-dzen academic departments, and participate in numerus extra-curricular activities such as sprts, music, drama and expeditins. The Schl has apprximately 600 full-time and part-time emplyees. The academic structure is supprted by supprt departments respnsible fr buildings and grunds maintenance, finance, catering and barding huse services, IT netwrk, HR, marketing, admissins, health & safety, legal affairs, sprts centre, health care and the Schl s trading subsidiary. The estate cvers 120 nn cntiguus acres, almst ne mile apart at its extremities and interspersed by twn husing, retail and light industrial prperties. It includes a built estate f 75 buildings, f which 23 buildings are listed (Grades I II, and many lie in the Uppingham Cnservatin Area. This brings its wn special demands t the jb f the Maintenance Department. Buildings include teaching blcks, barding huses (many with extensive gardens), administrative areas, technical supprt areas, staff husing, and a sprts centre. The Appintment Uppingham Schl Estates Department is a multi-trade maintenance rganisatin cmmitted t a plicy f delivering a swift respnse and high quality repair service t the buildings, which make up the Estate. The Maintenance Department has a team f 17 members f staff cmprising f electricians, carpenters/jiners, plumbers, decratrs, general maintenance peratives, water hygiene technician and Building Services and Maintenance Manager. The Electrical team cnsists f a Team Leader and 2 Electricians reprting t the Building Services and Maintenance Manager. Respnsible t: Electrical Team Leader, with additinal supprt when required frm the Building Services and Maintenance Manager. Key Relatinships: Plumbing Team, Carpentry/Jinery Team, Decratrs, General Maintenance Operatives, Estates Administratrs.

2 Jb Purpse T prvide an efficient fault finding, repair, maintenance and electrical safety service t the Schl s buildings and facilities. Respnsibilities: The wrklad is varied but typical duties will include: Carrying ut daily/rutine maintenance peratins n varius systems, equipment and appliances, including bth single-phase and three-phase systems, lighting and alarm systems etc. Carrying ut minr electrical installatins and mdificatins. Attending t breakdwns, fault finding, reprting and reslving any issues. Wrking n large refurbishment prjects as part f the team, including the wider Maintenance Team. Priritising a busy and varied wrklad. Utilising the Schls facilities management system, thrugh use f a tablet, t pick up, respnd t and cmplete jbs. Carrying ut ther areas f wrk within the emplyee s capability and training. Being respnsible fr wn persnal health and safety. T carry ut such ther duties as are f a similar r equivalent nature at the discretin f the Team Leader r Building Services and Maintenance Manager. T drive Schl vehicles safely and respnsibly when required (if apprpriately licensed). 3 Persn Specificatin The selectin f candidates fr shrt-listing will be based n this specificatin and candidates shuld bear this in mind when preparing their applicatin and cmpleting the applicatin frm ATTRIBUTES ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS SPECIALIST SKILLS & EXPERIENCE PERSONAL QUALITIES An apprpriate prfessinal (r trade) accreditatin (e.g. Level 2 City & Guilds 2230 r equivalent apprenticeship, 17 th Editin f IEE regulatins). A full driving licence*. Ability t diagnse faults and reprt findings accurately. Practical knwledge and experience f electrical maintenance, including pwer supplies, lighting and alarm systems, mtrs, cntrls and prtable appliances. A self-mtivated, slutin based team player able t wrk with minimum supervisin. Practive apprach t prblem slving. Gd timekeeping. Team player. Able t priritise and manage a varied wrklad. Available fr call-ut duties. An eye fr detail and quality and a sympathetic apprach t histric buildings. Physically fit and able t carry ut all duties. Able t wrk as part f a team. Psitive, flexible and can d attitude. Excellent cmmunicatin skills. Willingness t learn new skills. Ability t deal with students, staff and members f the public in a plite and helpful manner Test and Inspectin r equivalent. Experience f: Bth single-phase and threephase systems. Dr Access Systems. 4 * A full clean driving licence is preferred. This psitin invlves driving vehicles arund the Schl s estate. Any ffer f emplyment will therefre be cnditinal upn the successful candidate s being accepted fr insurance cver by the Schl s insurance prvider. Whilst every applicatin will be cnsidered n its wn merits, successful applicants shuld nte that if they have six r mre penalty pints n their driving licence, r a previus drink-driving cnvictin, they may nt be accepted fr cver by the Schl s insurers, in which case any ffer f emplyment wuld be withdrawn. Safeguarding and Child Prtectin The pst-hlder's respnsibility fr prmting and safeguarding the welfare f children and yung persns fr whm s/he is respnsible, r with whm s/he cmes int cntact will be t adhere t and ensure cmpliance with the Schl's Child Prtectin Plicy Statement at all times. If in the curse f carrying ut the duties f the pst the pst-hlder becmes aware f any actual r ptential risks t the safety r welfare f children in the Schl s/he must reprt any cncerns t the Schl's child prtectin fficer r t the Headmaster. Terms & Cnditins Salary Circa 24,000 per annum, dependent upn skills and experience. Salaries are generally reviewed n 1 st September each year. Wrking Hurs 39 hurs per week. Nrmal hurs are 8:30am t 5:00pm Mnday t Thursday, 8:30am t 4:00pm n Friday with ne hur fr lunch each day (half hur paid). The Electrician may be required t participate in the emergency call-ut rta and als prvide cver fr Schl functins including the Schl Leavers Ball. Apprpriate remuneratin will be paid if call-uts are attended. Additinal vertime hurs may be available, (with prir agreement f the Team Leader and Building Services and Maintenance Manager) particularly during larger refurbishment prjects, which generally take place during the Schl hlidays and at weekends, fr which vertime will be paid. Hlidays The annual hliday entitlement is 25 days hliday per annum plus bank hlidays. Public Hlidays that fall in term time are nrmal wrking days. It shuld be nted that up t 5 days hliday (less public hliday) may be required t be taken, subject t line manager apprval, ver the Christmas/New Year perid, when the Schl is mainly clsed.

5 Other Benefits Access t the Uppingham Schl Grup Pensin Plan. Emplyees will be subject t aut-enrlment legislatin, but may increase their cntributin after a qualifying perid, subject t certain criteria. The Schl will match increased cntributins n a 2:1 basis, up t a maximum f 10% cntributin by the Schl. Private Health care: the Schl pays 50% f the premium (pr-rata fr part-time staff). Free staff lunches during term-time. Full membership f Uppingham Schl Sprts Centre fr an annual fee nly f 15 fr full-time emplyees, pr-rated mnthly membership fr part-time emplyees. Death in service cver 1 with a lump sum f tw times the cntractual annual salary. Uppingham Schl fees salary sacrifice scheme if yur children attend the Schl.
