1 JOB DESCRIPTION Respnsible t: Ultimately respnsible t: Estates Bursar Bursar Harrw Schl was funded in Since then its estate has gradually extended and develped s that it nw cmprises much f Harrw n the Hill. The Schl has extensive sprts fields in tw separate lcatins n The Hill. One site cmprises cricket pitches and the ther lcatin cmprises rugby/sccer pitches, an 8- lane athletics track, tennis curts, a 9-hle glf curse and tw astrturf pitches. There are als areas f wdland, a lake, and undevelped grund including public rights f way which need t be managed. The Grunds Manager will have verall respnsibility fr the prductin and maintenance f the highest standards f playing surfaces/facilities. The psitin will cmbine extensive hands-n leadership with administrative management respnsibilities. Althugh there have been substantial imprvements t the sprts grunds and facilities ver recent years, the Grunds Manager will be expected t be practive in prmting further imprvements t meet the Schl s needs. Primary Rle T take full respnsibility fr the day t day running f sprts grunds and facilities t meet the Schl s requirements. These duties include: Liaisn with the masters in charge f the relevant sprts t ensure that their requirements are met. Clse liaisn with the Estates Bursar, Head Gardener and Frester in rder t prvide cmprehensive and c-rdinated estate management. The establishment and directin f seasnal grunds maintenance schedules. Day t day management and supervisin f the grund staff f 10 peple, including: - Recruit, train and mtivate all subrdinate staff - Develping further the centralised grunds team in terms f training and experience. - Cmmunicate and mtivate staff t achieve wrk schedules and bjectives, thrugh weekly perfrmance targets and supervise cntract staff. Cnduct perfrmance reviews n staff and encurage cntinuing prfessinal develpment.

2 - Maintaining full recrds f hurs wrked, sickness, hliday and ther absence, in rder t cmply with legislatin and the Schl s plicies. - Cmpliance with current emplyment legislatin in liaisn with Persnnel Department. The prvisin and effective deplyment f manpwer, plant and machinery. Ensure prper and cst-efficient maintenance f equipment thrugh a cmbinatin f in-huse and utsurced labur. Seek t imprve and intrduce mre efficient ways f wrking. Prepare, gain apprval, manage and mnitr a grunds budget cvering labur resurces, grunds maintenance materials, external cntractrs, machinery maintenance, purchase f new equipment and capital wrks. Crdinate the negtiatin, purchase, strage and cntrl f all cnsumable materials and services in a cst effective manner. Maintain awareness f industry develpments and prpse hw these will impact n the Schl. Maintain a thrugh knwledge f and ensure cmpliance with all relevant Natinal and Lcal current legislatin, i.e. health and safety, first aid, COSHH, envirnment management and emplyment t ensure cmpliance. Cnduct regular risk assessment prgrammes. Other Respnsibilities Respnsibility fr the grunds is deemed t include: - General cleanliness, which currently requires imprvement. - Cleanliness f the pavilins and equipment stres. - Fences and signage. - Maintaining pathways and ther unbunded areas (except gardens and wdland). - Cnservatin Area. - Cntrl f animals (pets and pests) and the general public s access t the grunds in liaisn with the Security Department. - Parking, trespassers/security. Develp the mst efficient and effective methds f grunds waste dispsal including cmpsting. Attend Grunds C-rdinatin, Tree, Glf and Games cmmittee meetings as required. Liaise with HSEL business managers t prvide sprts grunds/facilities in the schl hlidays. Occasinally visit the grunds f ther schls with high quality sprts grunds. Snw/ice clearance f pathways and rads as required during the winter. The pst hlder s respnsibility fr prmting and safeguarding the welfare f children and yung persns fr whm s/he is respnsible, r with whm s/he cmes int cntact will be t adhere t and ensure cmpliance with the Schl s Child Prtectin Plicy Statement at all times. If, in the curse f carrying ut the duties f the pst the pst hlder becmes aware f any actual r ptential risks t the safety r welfare f children in the schl s/he must reprt any cncerns t his/her Line Manager r the Schl s Child Prtectin Officer.

Qualificatins and Experience: Grunds management experience which must include cricket grunds, pitches, rugby/sccer pitches, glf curses and a full range f artificial surfaces. Sund knwledge and use f hrticultural machinery A PA2A and PA6A spraying certificate Frmal training in manual handling and risk assessment. Fundamental budget planning and cntrl skills. Frmal management training allied with 4 years prven management experience. A current driving licence Persnal Qualities: Excellent rganisatinal skills Excellent administrative skills The ability t cmmunicate apprpriately with staff/parents/bys/dignitaries and ther visitrs Self mtivated and dedicated Tactful and diplmatic A willingness t be adaptable and t wrk unsciable hurs as required by the jb Flexible Be able t wrk in all weather cnditins including rain, snw etc Wrk t high standards Able t wrk unsupervised Sense f humur Initiative and cmmn sense Enthusiasm and flexibility Reliable, hard wrking and self mtivated Patience and a gd sense f humur Keen interest in sprt Ability t priritise A gd eye fr detail Ability t wrk within a large team

4 ADDENDUM TO PARTICULARS OF TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT (Full Particulars f Terms f Emplyment will be issued n appintment) Hurs f wrk: The salary is based n a 40 hur wrking week but with hurs annualised t reflect the seasnal nature f the jb. It is expected that very lng wrking hurs including weekends will be necessary frm March t June, balanced by reduced wrking hurs in the fur Winter mnths. A 1/ 2 hur s lunch break is given n Mnday t Friday. Nrmal hurs f wrk are: 7 am 3.30 pm Mnday t Friday (8 hurs per day) As required Saturday Occasinal Sunday Flexibility is required during the busy summer mnths when it is essential t wrk late. Als, due t the nature f the psitin flexibility will be required thrughut the year. Overtime/Time in Lieu Paid vertime is nt applicable in this psitin. As a member f the management team additinal hurs will need t be wrked as part f yur rle. In particular, yu will be expected t wrk alternative Saturdays during the first half f the Autumn Term, the secnd half f the Spring Term and thrughut the Summer Term. It may als be necessary t attend n Sundays fr tw r three hurs n an ccasinal basis during the Summer Term and n mre ccasins at ther times f the year. Time in lieu can be taken by prir agreement with the Estates Bursar in respect f weekend wrking, limited t five wrking days. The lieu days are t be taken either individually during the week fllwing weekend wrk, r if mre than a single day, t be taken utside f term time. Salary: Accrding t experience and qualificatins Hlidays: a) 28 days per year (calculated pr rata fr the first 12 mnths) including all Bank Hlidays (unless they fall within term time, e.g. May Day when a day and a half may be taken in lieu) t be taken in liaisn with the Deputy Grunds Manager with at least 2 weeks t be taken utside the busy perids. Hlidays may nt usually be taken during term time nr in March/April (ther than the Easter public hlidays) r at the same time as the Deputy Grunds Manager. b) 2 additinal days f privilege leave may be taken (with the Deputy Grunds Manager prviding cver). c) Nn Bank Hlidays ver the Christmas perid frm Christmas Eve t 31st December inclusive. As b) and c) are discretinary leave they d nt frm part f yur cntractual entitlement and s will nt be paid if nt taken in the event that yu leave the Schl during the hliday year.
