2 Mountain View is among the oldest of cemeteries for the public in San Gabriel Valley. As was the custom in frontier days, residents of Pasadena buried their loved ones on family property. Laura Giddings and Charles Banbury (son of a Lieutenant Colonel in the Union Army) were buried on private land that lay along the Arroyo Seco, now part of the Wrigley Estate. When Colonel Banbury decided to sell his property in 1882, the matter of what would become of these graves became urgent. This prompted Mr. Giddings to provide some of his property to be dedicated as a cemetery, and the burials were moved in early By the end of the year, eight other transfers were made for a total of 24 burials. After nearly 130 years, the descendants of Levi W. Giddings still operate the cemetery, mortuary and crematory. Through the years, Mountain View acquired the adjacent Mountain View Mausoleum on Marengo Avenue, and Pasadena Mausoleum further down Fair Oaks Avenue. Both mausoleums offer the finest in burial crypts, niches and Westminster crypts. Mountain View has two beautiful chapels: Chapel of the Gardens and Sunrise Chapel. Also available for memorial services is the open-air Vista Del Monte committal, and the intimate Drawing Room next to our main office. You may choose only the items you desire. However, any funeral arrangements you select will include a charge for our basic services and overhead. If legal or other requirements mean you must buy any items you did not specifically ask for, we will explain the reason in writing on the statement we provide describing the funeral goods and services you selected. Professional Services... $1,225 This is a fee required for all adult funeral arrangements. It is a basic fee for our professional expertise in assisting each family with their preference. It includes a proportionate share of the unallocated overhead, taxes, licenses, utilities and business expenses required to serve the public. Our charge includes, but is not limited to, consultation with the family, administrative and clerical services, consultation with the clergy, cemetery, crematory or common carrier, assistance with union or insurance papers, planning the funeral, and placement of obituary notices. This fee for our basic services and overhead will be added to the total cost of the funeral arrangements you select. (This fee is already included in our charges for direct cremations, immediate burials, and forwarding or receiving remains.) Casket and Merchandise Warranties Minor variations in color, material and handles may occur between individual caskets and photographs. Various warranty information is supplied by different manufacturers. Copies of warranties are displayed in the casket. The only warranties, expressed or implied, granted in connection with goods sold with this Funeral Service, are the expressed written warranties, if any, extended by the manufacturers thereof. No other warranties and no warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose are extended by Mountain View or its employees. The caskets listed are normally offered for sale. However, from time to time certain caskets may not be available.
