Jill Van Buren seconded the motion, and it passed BUSINESS FROM THE PUBLIC: None 4. ACTION ITEMS: a. None 5. DISCUSSION ITEMS: a. Relocation of historic Main Street Church to Skate Park The Mayor has organized a small group to see about the possibilities of saving the Episcopal Church near Carriage Plaza that the City owns. They are currently considering different options as it is in severe disrepair. Saving the church at the current location would mean there would be no parking. One option would be to move it. Another option would be to cut back the additions and restoring it to its original size, saving the historical Queen Anne style building, using materials that were added on in 1920s, and finding a place to locate it. Several locations are being considered including the open space next to the skate park. Hodney shared a draft schematic of the possible layout. If moved to the skate park location the building would be operated and maintained by the Parks & Recreation Department. Brief discussion followed. b. Managing competing uses at Timber Linn Soccer Fields AYSO is the current primary user and is partnering with the department for installation of an irrigation system. The department has been approached by other soccer organizations wanting to use the fields for smaller competitive teams. Hodney noted that once the irrigation project is complete and all of the
3 Albany Parks & Recreation Commission Page 2 area is available for use there should be enough field time for multiple organizations, as long as the fields are managed to prevent over usage. Currently the other soccer organization is using Timber Ridge and Lexington Park. 6. REPORTS AND UPDATES a. Budget FY Hodney distribute copies of his presentation which he will be giving at the budget committee meeting tomorrow. b. Sunrise Park The design process is moving forward, which will incorporate the Latino culture. A draft layout with sample playground photos was distributed. c. Capital Project Update Hodney noted no changes to the Capital Project Summary. Covers at the shade structures usually go up towards the end of May when the weather gets better. Timber Linn soccer fields: AYSO is planning to start installation of the irrigation around the beginning of June and will be completed by July 1. b. Staff Reports Romancier provided an update on aquatics programs. ACP is hosting two large high school swim meets this month with average attendance of 300+ people a day. 18 swim classes are currently running. Maintenance and repairs COOL! Pools are underway which include tile replacement due to winter weather, resurfacing concrete areas of dressing rooms, and picnic table replacement. Nooshazar provided an update on Recreation programs. Summer Sounds line up will be released at the end of May. Summer staff has been hired and will start the latter part of June. Sponsor meetings are taking place to secure contributions for next budget year. Barnett provided an update on Park Maintenance. Crews are preparing for summer and prepping softball fields. Restrooms are open. Driveway repair at Takena Landing will take place later this month. The Waverly Duck has been moved to Main Auto Body & Paint for repairs, which will take approximately three weeks. Main Auto has donated the base painting and sealant. Local artist will paint the feather details. Carlson is working with a private citizen who is donating a trailer for transporting the duck. 7. ANNOUNCEMENTS: None 8.
