This is 61% of the operating budget. This compares to $846,115 (60%) for the same period last year ( ). It also compares to $833,936 (62%) for the same period two years ago ( ). Revenue collected to date is $353,106. This is 55% of the projection. This compares to $371,017 (63%) for the same period last year ( ). It also compares to $394,807 (63%) for the same period two years ago ( ). Program expenditures to date are $314,695. This is 36% of total expenditures to date. This compares to $274,352 (32%) for the same period last year ( ) and to $289,275 (35%) for the same period two years ago ( ) Natural Chimneys as of 2/28/2018 Expenses/Budget $ 222,305 Projected Revenue $ 222,750 A total of $153,447 has been expended. This is 69% of the operating budget. This compares to $145,286 (69%) for the same period last year ( ) and to $133,839 (65%) for the same period two years ago ( ). Revenue collected to date is $129,210. This is 58% of the projection. This compares to $145,540 (69%) for the same period last year ( ). It also compares to $126,582 (60%) for the same period two years ago ( ). Total or Combined Projected Revenue for the Department is $863,750. Box 590 Verona, Virginia Director s Report to the PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION March 21, 2018 Administrative & Personnel: Staffing Interview process for P/T Program Coordinator position for Trips and Senior Adult programming Still seeking P/T staff for CARE program specifically substitutes Budget/Fiscal Lean budget request for FY19 submitted only budget looks significantly different for two reasons o Meshed Natural Chimneys into Parks & Recreation; some existing line items and some new o Transferred all maintenance, facility upkeep, and grounds keeping expenses to a new department; roughly a 25% reduction of expenses o Translates to projecting a plus 75% recovery of operating expenses Only significant new request (beyond what s already in the operating budget) was a full-time positon to be shared with Economic Development office at ratio; eliminated part-time wages to compensate for more than 60% of increase RFQ s for Lifeguarding Services Was posted for this summer 2018 to cover all needs for Stuarts Draft Pool and Natural Chimneys Pool, including swim lesson programs Staunton Augusta YMCA again awarded the contract based on submitted quote (less than a 2.5% increase). Parks & Facilities: Current larger scale - significant projects at our parks and County properties Construction of walking trail, picnic shelter, and public parking lot [MP] Drilling of new well and connecting/integrating it into water supply system [NCP] Installation of switchgear / replacing old junction boxes at Shelter #4 and Maintenance Shop [NCP] Rewiring of J-Loop campsites and replacement of campsite utility pedestals [NCP] Repairing significant damage (renovations) in the restroom from water leak [CP] Completion of the Swett Performance Platform (landscaping, ventilation, and hanging gutter) [SDP] Natural Chimneys Campground The opening will be delayed by a week, possibly two Considering for future years a hard opening of May 1 and any camping in April dependent upon cooperative weather in getting water lines open
9 Park restrooms Targeting mid-april for opening of restrooms at other parks (Crimora & Augusta Springs) Programs: Statistics Over the last month since our last Commission meeting (2/21/18) Programs Offered to start: 26 Programs Realized and started: 25 Total Participants: 467 Total Participation Hours: 13,133 Total Revenue generated by these programs = $35,754 For the calendar year 2018 A Summary Programs Offered to start: 96 Programs Realized and started: 77 Total Participants: 1,409 Total Participation Hours: 45,138 Activities Guide Target distribution date for Summer Guide is third week of May; content due first week of April Story Walks Partnering with Augusta County Library to launch these features at some different county properties including our parks Great encouragement/promotion of being active and fit and literate
