2 I T D N E W S L E T T E R Page 2 I T D I N I T I A T I V E S P O T L I G H T FY13 DISTRICT KEY INITIATIVES Race to the Top Creating more effective venues for Teaching and Learning Jacob s Report Working now to build a 10 year plan for building renovations that will go to state department Budget Work has begun to create a new budget calendar and begin preparing for a new budget year FY13 ITD KEY NITIATIVES Innovation at work Finance Modernization (FM Squared) The Financial Modernization Program kicks off October 22, The program is a joint partnership with Finance, Information Technology Department, and Human Capital. The program will improve the interoperability of core financial and subsidiary systems and strengthen internal controls. The initiative of the program is to standardize business processes and leverage shared services to achieve cost savings in implementation and operation of the core financial management system. Deliver high-quality financial information and reports Improve financial service delivery to the customer Reengineer reporting processes around web-based technologies Implement appropriate Program Management activities Implement appropriate project Risk/Issue Management program SSO/IAM Single Sign on (SSO) is a user authentication process that permits a user to enter one user name and password in order to access multiple systems. Using SSO, users can log in once and gains access to all the systems without being prompted to log in again at each of them. Single sign-off is a feature of SSO and allows a single action of signing out to terminate access to multiple applications. Some of the key Benefits of SSO are: No need to remember multiple usernames and passwords. Easy to logoff with single action. Users can reset their passwords using Self service tools, which reduces service desk calls. Centralized reporting for better compliance. Helps enforce strong password and authentication policies The program will: Establish collaborative relationship with Finance, Information Technology Department, and Human Capital C I T Y S C H O O L S The Human Capital Office is excited to announce the launch of the Online Performance Management System (OPMS) for the school year! City Schools is once again participating in NetDay Speak Up Since 2003, more than 2.2 million K-12 education stakeholders have participated in the annual Speak Up National Research Project, which collects and reports on the authentic, unfiltered views and opinions of K-12 students, parents and educators on critical 21 st -century education issues. 5 ITD CLOTHING DONATION DRIVE AUGUST 31, 2012 ITD staff held a dress for success clothing drive. The business clothes collected was donated to the Dress for Success organization for women and Career Gear for men. The mission of Dress for Success is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. Career Gear builds strong families and communities by empowering low-income men to overcome barriers and achieve self-sufficiency. ITD BOWLING NIGHT SEPTEMBER 7, 2012 ITD Staff enjoyed a night out at Mustang Alley s bowling the night away. A low turnout but a great time had by all that attended. Congrats to Jennifer and Lakisha (bowling champs) ITD STAFF COOKOUT SEPTEMBER 28, 2012 ITD Staff held it s annual cookout at Belmont Park a local Baltimore Recreation and Parks location. Lots of fun was had by all and the water balloon contest was a sure hit. Literally! Page 5
