4 4 Getting started with Alliance Trust Savings Welcome to Alliance Trust Savings We hope you will enjoy investing with us and would like to help you make the most of your new account. With this in mind we have compiled this quick How to guide to get you started. It s backed up by step by step videos, available to view at www. alliancetrustsavings.co.uk/stocktrade Our online service is instinctive and easy to use, but if you ever run in to trouble or prefer to talk to someone it s backed by our friendly, award-winning Client Services team who are just a phone call away on Our lines are open Monday to Friday: 8:00am 5:00pm for telephone dealing services, general enquiries, help and support Sarah-Ann, New Business team 5:00pm 9:00pm for overseas dealing only Calls may be recorded for security monitoring purposes. 5 Getting started with Alliance Trust Savings 5 How to... Log in You can access our secure online service 24/7. Online you can view your accounts, trade in real time during market hours in UK listed securities and overseas listed securities (that can be traded through Crest as Crest Depository Interests, including North American and European securities), place orders to buy and sell funds and access your statements and valuations. To log in, make sure you have your Personal ID and the Password we sent you to hand, visit and select Login at the top right hand corner of the screen. 1. Now, type in your 8 Digit Personal ID, then select Secure Login. Enter the three characters requested from your password, (this is case sensitive) and select Continue. Enter your Personal ID Enter the characters from your Password Continued overleaf >>
6 6 Getting started with Alliance Trust Savings 2. The first time you log in please provide answers to the three security questions when prompted. You will need to answer these if you lose or forget your Personal ID and/or Password in future. Please keep in mind that the answers you provide are case sensitive. Then complete the following sections: Enter the 3 characters requested from your Password, (this is case sensitive) Enter a new Password (must be 8-12 characters long and must contain a capital letter, a lower case letter, at least one number and no special characters) Confirm the Password 3. Select continue... You are now logged in to your account. Answer the security questions Enter a new Password Lost or forgotten your Personal ID and/or Password?? Call us on and we ll send you a new one. Alternatively you can generate a new Password to your address by selecting Can t remember your Personal ID or Password? on the log in page.

Set up a Direct Debit Now that you have joined Alliance Trust Savings you have the opportunity to make the most out of your account by making regular monthly investments. The cheapest way to trade is through our online Monthly Dealing service where you can benefit from a dealing charge of just 1.50 for each investment you buy, each month. You can set up a Direct Debit using your online account. Simply login and select Manage My Accounts from the tool bar then follow the steps below. If you have more than one account, you will need to select the account you want to set the Direct Debit instruction for. Select Manage My Accounts from the tool bar 1. Select New Direct Debit, in the Direct Debit Details box. Read the declaration and if you agree then select Continue to next step. To move from step to step during any set up process, just look for the Continue to next step button. Select New Direct Debit Select Continue to next step Continued overleaf >>
8 8 Getting started with Alliance Trust Savings 2. Enter details of the amount you want to save. 3. You can now choose the Cash Management Acccount(s) you would like your Direct Debit to be paid to. You will need to select Monthly Dealing Account if you would like to benefit from the reduced 1.50 monthly dealing charge and then (once you are done setting up your Direct Debit) follow the steps we ve explained from page If you want to split your Direct Debit between multiple Cash Management Accounts this step can be repeated. To find out more about the different Cash Management Accounts and what you can use them for, please read pages 8 and 9 of Managing your Account: The Platform Guide. Stocktrade sent you a copy of this, but if you need another please download it at co.uk/stocktrade or contact us. 5. Once all of your Direct Debit amount is allocated continue to the next step, review your details and confirm that you are the account holder for the bank details used. Only the account holder for the bank account can set up the Direct Debit. 6. Finally, please read the Direct Debit Guarantee and if you wish you can print it at this stage for your records. 10 10 Getting started with Alliance Trust Savings How to... Set up regular monthly dealing Once you have set up a Direct Debit in to your account and allocated it to the Monthly Dealing Account the next step is to select the investments you would like to buy each month. These can be changed whenever you wish. To begin, select Trading Centre from the tool bar. In the Monthly Trading box in the bottom right hand corner of the page select Investment Instructions. 1. On the next screen, to add a new investment either enter the investment symbol for the investment you want or if you are unsure of the symbol, select Search and enter the name of the investment to find it. You can find out about more about researching investments through Alliance Trust Savings on page 17 of this guide. Select Investment Instructions Select Search and enter the name of the investment to find it
11 Getting started with Alliance Trust Savings Your investment will now appear in section 2. Enter the percentage of your Direct Debit amount that you would like allocated to this particular investment (this must be a whole number) then select Allocate. 3. You will now see the investment and percentage of Direct Debit used appear in Section Repeat these steps until 100% of the Direct Debit is allocated, then move to the next step. 5. Please now review the Investments and percentages you have chosen and, if you are happy, select Confirm to activate your monthly trading instruction. 6. You monthly trading instruction will be processed two working days after Direct Debit collection. If this falls on a Bank Holiday or a weekend it can take up to five working days to process. All investments carry an element of risk which may differ significantly. If you are unsure as to the suitability of any particular investment or product, you should seek professional financial advice.!
12 12 Getting started with Alliance Trust Savings How to... Change your default settings Personal Details We recommend that you check that all of your personal details are correct in our records. To do this, just select Personal Details from the tool bar. Select the option that you want to check and you will then be given the opportunity to make changes if you wish. Select Personal Details from the tool bar Select the option you want to make changes to Giving someone else access to your Account If you wish to give someone else access to view and discuss your account or trade on your behalf you will need to complete a Third Party Authority Form. To download this, visit the Forms & Documents page for your account type at No existing third party authority instructions will come across with your account from Stocktrade except for any Powers of Attorney that were already in place for you.
13 Getting started with Alliance Trust Savings 13 Managing your income Your income from your investments transferred over from Stocktrade will be set to be paid into your account s Deposit Account in cash. Once these investments are in your Alliance Trust Savings account you can amend your income options. To do this, select Manage My Accounts from the tool bar and then select Income Management from the Money Management box. From there you can choose a preferred option for each of your investments. Paid to Deposit Account in cash will only be the default settling for your investments transferred from Stocktrade. Income from Investments you buy in your new Alliance Trust Savings account will be set to reinvest by default. Each time you buy a new investment you can amend the income options. Select Manage My Accounts from the tool bar Select Income Management from the Money Management box If your preferred option is reinvestment, the default setting is that we won t reinvest until you have a minimum of 100 in the cash account for that investment (known as the Security Account). To change the minimum purchase level for each investment please call our Client Services team. This can be set at 100, 150, 300 or 500. If you wish to take a regular income, please fill out an Income Withdrawal Form and send it to us. To download this, visit the Forms and Documents page for your account type at

Top up your Account If you decide that regular investment through our Monthly Dealing service is not for you, topping up your account in other ways is easy too. Please remember that it costs more to trade in other ways. Details are on the next page. Debit Card payment Select Manage My Accounts from the tool bar On the left hand side of the screen you will see the Money Management box From this select Debit Card and just follow the instructions from there Alternatively, you can call our Client Services team and make a Debit Card payment over the phone. Select Manage My Accounts from the tool bar Select Debit Card from the Money Management box Cheque You can post us a cheque made payable to Alliance Trust Savings Ltd, accompanied by a signed written instruction advising which account the payment is for and which Cash Management Account you would like your cash to be placed in. 16 16 Getting started with Alliance Trust Savings By direct transfer from your bank account You can make a payment into your Alliance Trust Savings account directly from your own bank account using our bank details below. We can only accept payments from a UK bank account. Please give your Alliance Trust Savings account number as the reference in your instructions to your bank. Before instructing the transfer please also send us a signed written instruction advising which account the payment is for and which Cash Management Account you would like it paid into. This instruction can be scanned and sent to us as an attachment to an . Alternatively you can call our Client Services Team and give a telephone instruction. 17 Getting started with Alliance Trust Savings 17 How to... Research investments Using the research tool From the tool bar select Research. Select Research from the tool bar From there you will be able to access our Investment Selector tool from Morningstar. This lists all of the investments available through Alliance Trust Savings and lets you research, choose and monitor the performance of your investments. Once in the tool you can set up investment watch lists to track investments you are potentially interested in by selecting Manage Portfolio under Navigation on the left hand side. 18 18 Getting started with Alliance Trust Savings You can also set up a Transaction Portfolio. This allows you to monitor the performance of your investments by using an overview of your investment portfolio s current positioning and historic performance taking account of your buys, sells and other transactions. You can enter your transaction history from your preferred date or just your current portfolio, adding future transactions as you go. Set up a Transaction Portfolio or a Watchlist Portfolio For more investment information Visit and go to the investing hub for more expert research, tools, ideas and information to help you in making investment decisions. If you like, you can access Investment Selector this way without logging in to your secure account, although you won t be able to set up watch lists or a Transaction Portfolio. You can only do this through the secure service.

Place a securities trade or fund order When you are ready to place a securities trade or a fund order select Trading Centre from the tool bar. To trade in listed securities 1. To buy or sell listed securities (Stocks and Shares, Investment Trusts and Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs)) select Trade Now. If you don t know the Investment symbol for the investment you want to trade, select Search and enter the Investment name. Then select the Investment symbol to return to the trading page. 2. Next select either Buy a quantity of shares or Invest an amount of money OR Sell a quantity of shares or Raise an amount of money. 3. On the right hand side under the Investment symbol enter the amount or quantity. 4. Continue to the next step and check your order. If you are happy to proceed, select continue. 5. Now you will be given a live quote from the market. You have 15 seconds to accept the price, which will keep updating every 15 seconds until you do. Trading Centre Continued overleaf >>
20 20 Getting started with Alliance Trust Savings To place a fund order To buy or sell Unit Trusts or OEICs, select Place a Fund Order in the Fund Supermarket section of the page. Now just follow the steps to complete your order. Funds are usually priced once a day (although some are priced weekly) and have a cut off time for placing orders each day ahead of that pricing point. This is known as forward pricing and means you will never know your trading price in advance. If you place your order after the daily cut off time you usually trade at the next day s price. We will confirm your price in your Contract Note which is generated after your order is completed. Select Place a Fund Order Trade In Funds Not sure about trading online? We are happy for you to place orders over the phone but we do charge extra for this. It costs 40 for each trade. If you trade online we charge for each trade (or just 1.50 if you set up regular Monthly Dealing see page 10 for the details). If you are unsure about trading online please call our Client Services team. They will be happy to talk you through each step until you feel confident and you will still pay the online charge.? Held your account with stocktrade for more than 5 years? You qualify for a Loyalty Discount on online trading. The details are on page 15 of Managing your Account: the Platform Guide and at

Access your statements and valuations One of the advantages of using our online service is that you can access your statements, valuations and other account information at any time. You can also choose whether you want to receive future documents online or in the post. Accessing your statements Select Personal Details from the tool bar. Then select Documents in the Document Settings box. From here you can view Statements, Valuations, Consolidated Tax Certificates (for Investment Dealing Accounts) and Contract Notes. If you are a new customer to Alliance Trust Savings, to begin with you will only be able to see copies of recent statements that Stocktrade have sent to you. But as documents are generated you will be able to view these in the Documents section. Statements are generated twice yearly in April and October. Consolidated Tax Certificates (for Investment Dealing Accounts) are available after Tax Year End and Contract Notes are added when a trade is completed. If you choose to reinvest your income you will be able to view a Contract Note for each reinvestment. Continued overleaf >>
22 22 Getting started with Alliance Trust Savings Changing your Document Settings By selecting Document Settings you can change the way you choose to receive your documents. Either online or by post. If you are new to Alliance Trust Savings we assume you would like to receive your documents by post. If you choose to continue to receive your Statements by post, we will charge you 5+VAT per Statement from April There is no charge for receiving your Statements online. Need more help?
