1 Route Route Z Intersection Realignment Sponsor County Highway Project No. RB Project Type Traffic Flow TOTAL FUNDING Total County Sponsor Federal $3,310,000 $1,776,000 $0 $1,534,000 Project Description This project involves a reconfiguration of the intersection of Route Z at Route N. Due to considerable existing traffic delays at the intersection, MoDOT was able to get federal funds through East-West Gateway to reconstruct this intersection. Their plan was to replace the unconventional split dual intersections with a pair of roundabouts in a dogbone configuration. County administration was concerned with the dogbone layout, since it appeared to only address short-term delays and not the long-term growth anticipated for the area, especially as the David Hoekel Parkway (DHP) corridor continues to develop. A single intersection with a traffic signal was determined by Roads and Traffic to be the best alternative. As a result of discussion between MoDOT, the County, and East-West Gateway, it was decided that St. Charles County should administer the project, and the traffic signal option would be built at an intersection by the east end. Route Z would be realigned behind the existing Walgreens location. This configuration also allows for a new direct connection to Buckner Road to the west to match the long range plan for DHP, which could be easily incorporated into the intersection realignment in the future as the DHP#3 project.
