Traditionally, cash is moved to and from different cash points instead of being optimized. In view of the growing challenges, various initiatives have been implemented to improve operational efficiency, enhance integrity and cost optimization as well as to eliminate duplicate roles of the Central Bank and Commercial Banks. MAKING BANKNOTES ACCESSIBLE TO THE VISION-IMPAIRED COMMUNITY by Kylie Springer, Reserve Bank of Australia A key function of the Reserve Bank is to design and produce banknotes that meet the needs of all sections of the community. The Bank has consulted a wide range of subject matter experts and stakeholders to ensure that the next generation of Australia s banknotes reflects Australia s cultural identity, is secure and remains functional. One aspect of functionality is that the banknotes are accessible to people with vision impairment. This presentation outlines the work the Bank has undertaken to meet the needs of the visionimpaired community since the paper decimal banknote series was issued in 1966, through to the forthcoming next generation series of banknotes. WHOLESALE BANKNOTES DARK ART OR ECONOMIC ENABLER by Jens Seidl, Travelex For many, the Wholesale Banknotes business is a niche activity in the world of cash processing it has many commonalities with the volume domestic banknote processing, but some very specific additional challenges that are often talked about, and often lead to misperceptions. This presentation aims to remove some of the mystery around the world of Wholesale Banknotes. It was worth every dollar spent. Would recommend currency management staff in Central Banks to attend. HSBC TRENDS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF CASH MARKETS by Jonathan Ward, Secura Monde International Ltd In 2014, Secura Monde International conducted an extensive and unique study into cash market development, covering 16 countries and based on interviews and discussions with more than 60 organisations worldwide. This presentation highlights the findings of the study, analysing the common trends observed in the way cash markets evolve, the key factors influencing the development of the cash industry, and the distinctive differences in its pace and direction between mature financial markets and emerging economies. The presentation takes the audience through typical stages in cash market development, key indicators of each stage and the likely trajectory for the future of cash and payments. An impact of disruptive technologies, such as the growing use of mobile payments, is analysed and other potential gamechangers for the cash industry are offered for a live debate and input from the conference participants. CASE STUDIES IN CASH EFFICIENCY IMPROVEMENTS THROUGH INTEGRATION AND PARTNERSHIP by Anthony McAndrew, G4S How G4S and financial institutions within the South East Asia region are working together to improve the effectiveness and cost efficiency of cash distribution. How tailor-made solutions for the banks are delivering both anticipated and unexpected benefits for the customer. In response to popular demand, we are continuing to offer the Symposium on Banknote Production - Where the Cash Cycle Begins. Banknote Production is the beginning stage of the Cash Cycle, and it encompasses security and durability considerations in design, Level 1-3 security features, printing, and issuance. Issuing Authorities must also factor in the cost vs. performance balance, while bearing in mind the transactional and store-value denominations as well as the risks posed by counterfeiting. This Symposium will take place after the close of the seminar and is free for all registered seminar delegates. There will be two sessions (with a coffee break in between) that will focus on banknote design, printing, and issuance. All of these production factors will be discussed in terms of how they impact the cash cycle. 10 ASIA CASH MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION (ACMA) 5th ACMA MEETING September 8, 12:00PM - 2:00PM The Asia Cash Management Association (ACMA) has been successfully registered with the Companies Registry in Hong Kong. Its mission is to provide a platform for Cash Management Companies (CMCs) in Asia, Africa, Australia and Oceania to raise their professional reputation and standing in the Cash Handling and Cash Management Industry.
