International business series May and November - two public events Building on our past work considering Australia s competitiveness in world markets, opportunities in Asia, and new trade agreements, in its 2015 International business series we investigate the factors of success, the potential scale of international business, our international connectedness, new market and new product opportunities. A proven track record, delivering on the issues that matter for over 50 years 6
7 Health services series March and August - two public events Health is becoming Australia s fastest growing industry. The series also considers the growth and potential of our education sectors. > further public and member events CEDA analyses changing environments and investigates arising issues with public events (open to all) and member events (for CEDA members and their guests) in a lunch format. Topics identified through our research and discussions with members to be presented in our 2015 program include: Professional services March 2015 member event Ours is a 30% services economy. Constraints are commonly considered to be sector specific: financial, engineering, consulting, but structural barriers, changes in delivery models and in competition have broad impact. Can reform in professional services unleash potential? Competition policy April 2015 public event The Federal Government s Competition Policy Review is to be released in Renewed competition policy is essential to meeting future economic challenges. This CEDA event will address the review s finding and recommendations and consider the implications for business. Addressing entrenched disadvantage April 2015 public event Despite a low unemployment rate and record levels of workforce participation, communities in Australia experience entrenched disadvantage. It is increasingly important that services and solutions from all sectors effectively respond and are engaged in addressing entrenched disadvantage. At the release of the CEDA Addressing entrenched disadvantage policy perspective speakers will analyse the economics of disadvantage and inequality and the way ahead. 7
8 Defence industries May 2015 member event The Defence White Paper findings and recommendations will drive future defence policy with military strategy and force structure. With Queensland s defence industry growth there are implications for long-term strategic economic interests, funding, defence industry policy and codevelopment of future infrastructure. Agribusiness June 2015 public event If Australian agriculture is to grow and to be truly resilient the ownership model, and the critical sector enablers of supply chain certainty and digital business practices, must be right. The capital base of the sector will be crucial to prosperity; to be competitive and meet regional demand, private and foreign investors will require equity for capital. Contestability August 2015 member event CEDA speakers consider whether the commitment to a contestable market, to open up government service delivery to competition from alternative providers, has presented new opportunities for private, not-for-profit and contracted service providers to engage in service delivery. Retirement policy August 2015 public event Improved living conditions and medical advances have extended life. While this is good for individuals it has societal and economic implications. At the release of the CEDA Retirement policy policy perspective speakers examine Australia s population trends, appropriate retirement policies, the effects of ageing on Government expenditure and the roles of superannuation and taxation. Infrastructure September 2015 public event Acknowledged as a driver and enabler of economic growth key infrastructure projects will be developed and delivered in CEDA considered the infrastructure pipeline and the economic criticality of doing infrastructure well in Australia. Tourism October 2015 member event A sector structured around small and medium business with growth often driven by policy and investment for large and iconic projects. CEDA considered the future model and economics of tourism. More than 700 leading businesses and organisations choose CEDA 8
9 > research CEDA research draws together the best minds on key issues of the day to inject new ideas into the policy debate. At the release of each CEDA report, public events are presented in capital cities around the country with report authors joining senior industry leaders to analyse the issues. Addressing entrenched disadvantage April 2015 Despite Australia's low unemployment and record levels of workforce participation, there are communities in Australia entrenched in disadvantage. In this policy perspective CEDA examines inequality and the economic and social cost of entrenched disadvantage. Australia's future workforce June 2015 CEDA's major research report for 2015 will focus on the future of Australia's workforce. CEDA will examine: how next generation skills will be developed to meet Australia's needs; education and skilling requirements; workforce implications of migration; innovation and research and development; and the challenges of digital disruption. Retirement policy September 2015 With improved living conditions and medical advances life is extended. With that comes implications for Australia's and Australians prosperity. In this policy perspective CEDA will examine: demographic change; the economic impacts; best retirement policy settings; and how effectively Australia's taxation system incentivises savings for retirement. International connectedness November 2015 Building on our past work considering Australia s competitiveness in world markets, opportunities in Asia, and trade agreements, this policy perspective will examine the factors of success in international business, our international connectedness, new market and new product opportunities. > national events State of the Nation June 2015, Canberra CEDA s annual State of the Nation is an intensive day and a half of briefings with government and shadow ministers, public servants and industry analysts on federal policy settings and the economy.
