3 Mnre Cunty Bar Assciatin Classes MEMBERSHIP Sectin 1. A "Member" f the Assciatin is defined t mean any individual wh meets the criteria fr membership in the Assciatin and wh has paid all current dues as required by the Assciatin. Sectin 2. Classes f Members. (A) There shall be the fllwing classes f Members in the Assciatin: (i) Regular Member. Any persn wh is admitted t the practice f law in the State f New Yrk shall be eligible t be a Regular Member f the Assciatin. (ii) Participating Member. Any persn wh is (a) admitted t the practice f law in any jurisdictin ther than the State f New Yrk, r (b) des nt reside, have an ffice r practice in the Seventh Judicial District and des nt wrk in the Curts in the Seventh Judicial District shall be entitled t be a Participating Member. (iii) District Member. Any persn wh is (a) admitted t the practice f law in the State f New Yrk, and (b) resides within the Seventh Judicial District and des nt reside r have an ffice in Mnre Cunty and des nt wrk in the Mnre Cunty Curt System shall be eligible t be a District Member. (iv) Retired Member. Nn-judicial members wh have retired and have filed a certificatin with the Chief Administratr f Curts, pursuant t 22 NYCRR 118.1(g). (v) Hnrary Member. Regular Members whm the Bard f Trustees, in its discretin selects, r wh qualify pursuant t a plicy adpted by the Bard f Trustees, shall becme Hnrary Members f the Assciatin. (vi) Patrn Member. Patrn memberships in the Assciatin shall be available t such members either Regular, Participating, Retired r Hnrary, as are willing, fr the supprt f the general wrk f the Assciatin, t pay such amunt as annual dues in any year as the Bard f Trustees may determine frm time t time. A member wh decides t be a Patrn Member in any year shall nt be bligated t cntinue as such in any subsequent year. (vii) New Admittees & Cllege/Law Students. Attrneys admitted t the practice f law wh are in their first year f admissin (New Admittees), law schl students, and thse awaiting admissin after passing the State Bar exam, as well as thse awaiting results f the Bar exam. Fr New Admittees this member classificatin shall end n June 30 in the year fllwing the year f admissin. (B) Affiliates. Paralegals, legal assistants and law administratrs, and law schl graduates wh are nt admitted in any jurisdictin shall be eligible fr Affiliate Status. In additin, the Bard f Trustees shall have pwer t grant Affiliate Status upn such ther persns as the Bard f Trustees in its discretin may decide wuld benefit frm r assist the Assciatin by such Affiliate Status. (C) Judges. Judges f curts f recrd shall be eligible t serve as members f cmmittees and sectins, and except as prhibited by law, be eligible t serve as Officers and as Trustees f the Assciatin in accrdance with these By-laws. Sectin 3. Selectin f Members and Affiliates. Assciatin shall apply t the Assciatin in writing using the Membership Applicatin furnished by the Assciatin. Each Membership Applicatin shall be accmpanied by the apprpriate annual dues except that dues shall nt be due fr the year fllwing ne's admissin t the practice f law. The Executive Directr shall prmptly review each Membership Applicatin t verify cmpliance with Sectin 2 f this Article and shall reprt theren t the Bard f Trustees. An applicant shall thereupn becme a Member r Affiliate and be entitled t all the rights and privileges f membership. Sectin 4. Rights and Privileges f Members and Affiliates. (A) All Members and Affiliates f the Assciatin shall have the right t attend all meetings f the Assciatin; t engage in deliberatins at such meetings; t petitin the Bard f Trustees; and t participate in all prgrams and activities spnsred by the Assciatin. (B) Patrn Members shall have all the rights and privileges t which they wuld have been entitled had they chsen t remain Regular, Assciate, Senir r Hnrary Members, as the case may be. Patrn Members shall enjy n additinal rights and privileges as a result f becming Patrn Members. (C) Only Regular, Participating and Senir Members f the Assciatin shall be entitled t vte r serve as an elected Officer r Trustee f the Assciatin. Sectin 5. Dues. The Bard f Trustees shall have full pwer t hereafter adjust the amunt f dues except that the Bard f Trustees may nt increase the dues f Regular r Participating Members in an amunt t exceed twenty percent (20%) f the previus year's dues withut the prir apprval f a majrity f the Members qualified t vte wh are present in persn r by prxy at any duly held meeting f the Assciatin, prvided ntice f the prpsed increase has been given in the ntice f the meeting. The Bard f Trustees may decrease r eliminate the dues fr any categry f membership r any individual r individuals pursuant t such plicies as it may frm time t time adpt. Sectin 6. Terminatin f Membership. The Bard f Trustees, in its discretin, may grant a leave f absence frm the Assciatin t any Member, withut dues, upn such terms and cnditins as it prescribes. The Bard f Trustees shall establish a written plicy fr the assessment f late fees against thse wh fail t pay dues within the time perid prescribed in such plicy, and fr terminatin frm membership, n ntice f Members whse dues remain in arrears beynd the grace perid prescribed in such plicy. Sectin 7. Membership in the Assciatin. Membership in the Assciatin shall, unless therwise directed by the Bard f Trustees, be terminated during any perid in which a Member is suspended frm practice by an Appellate Divisin r like authrity r when a Member has been disbarred r resigns frm admissin t practice law.
