3 Background The International Thai Culture Camp (ITCC) held every year by the Department of Thai Classical Music, Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. This department is the best department of Thai Classical Music in Thailand, and when he spoke of Chulalongkorn University, CU is the no.1 university in Thailand and are included in the 200 best universities in the world (ranking 171 QS World University Rangkings version). ITCC was originally organized as an internal activity, but over time, ITCC become an international activity. The main objective is to train students to be able to communicate and collaborate in a multi-cultural situations. There have been many students from other countries participating in this activity such as Slovenia, Japan, Singapore, and Indonesia (years ago I brought a medical student UI). The facilitators at the camp are professors and lecturers from Chulalongkorn University, USA and the UK. Some goals can be achieved after the activity is: 1. Participants are able to practice communication skills and working in a multicultural situation. 2. Participants are able to recognize the positive things that come out of the equation and also the cultural differences between Indonesia and Thailand. 3. Participants were able to identify strategies to adjust to the new environment. 4. Participants are able to get a network of international relationships that can be used for self-development. 4 Schedule Event Program Summary : Participants will learn various kinds of culture in Thailand. On the other hands, participants from different countries will have to teach Thai participants their own cultures too. It's a kind of cultural exchange. Day 1 Afternoon - depart from the mainland to Si Chang Island by boat (2 hours) / arrive the university's accommodation on the island / rest (take shower + dinner) Evening - opening ceremony / introduction the whole programme and introducing all participants + instructors / diary writing *** instructors will be Europeans / American / Australian / Western.*** *** for diary writing, it depends on the instructors of what to write. This is actually a discussion & preparation for the presentation of each group at the end of the camp.*** ***all participants will be divided into a small group mixed nationalities. Then they will have to be with this group until the last day.*** *** presentation will be some kind of creativity of each group showing how they make used of cultures of all nations & new friends & everything they've learnt from the camp.*** Day 2 Morning - all participants will be divided into small groups and rotate to learn Thai cultures: various kinds of music, dance, language. / then presentations by all groups of what they've learnt / lunch Afternoon - all participants will be divided into small groups and rotate to learn cultures of other countries (depends on how many countries the overseas participants are from.) / then presentations by all groups of what they've learnt Evening - cooking session / all participants will be divided into small groups and cook dishes from many countries. The discussion of the dishes, recipe and ingredient will be discussed on the first night together with the instructors. / dinner There will be a representative of each group to go for ingredient shopping at a local market during the break. 5 Day 3 Morning - rehearsal / group meeting / preparation for the presentation / lunch Afternoon - sightseeing around the island / visiting temples and enjoy the beach / dinner Evening - presentations of all groups / camp fire Day 4 Morning - closing & farewell ceremony / lunch Afternoon - depart the island to the mainland / visit local market and a few places of interest... depends on the traffic and flight of each participant Evening - depends on each participant's flight...either staying in Thailand for one more night or leave Thailand Time and Place Date: 10 th January until 13 th January 2013 (3 nights 4 days) Venue: Chulalongkorn University's Accommodation (6 sharing) on SiChang Island (The island is one hour away from the mainland. It'saround an hour to the port from the airport in Bangkok. In total, wewill need around 2 hours plus traveling from the airport to theisland. We will pick up participants from the airport on 10 th January.)
