2 From the Club President Well here I go again was a good year for our club. We put siding on the Black Powder Lodge, we opened the three hundred meter range, the Youth Shoot went well with plenty of help, Sighting In Days was a complete success, the orientation sessions were well received and attended, all disciplines had a good year and most covered their own expenses looks to be a great year also. Lots of plans to improve the club and disciplines are active planning for this year s shoots. Come out and enjoy with us when you can. We can always use more help on workdays so check the calendar and come out and help when you can. Don t forget the gun show at Boundaries in March, The Youth Shoot in May or the many other activities that are planned for this year. We still need Range Officers for Sight-In Days. Contact Lee Thompson if you wish to serve in this capacity during Sight-In Days. This year we are doing something new. We are asking that guests wear a special Guest badge when shooting on the range. They will be at all the guest sign-in stations. This rule does not apply for organized shoots. REMEMBER WEAR YOUR BADGE WHEN SHOOTING ON THE RANGE AND SIGN IN ALL SHOOTING GUESTS BEFORE LETTING THEM SHOOT ON OUR RANGE AND HAVE THEM WEAR THE GUEST BADGE. From the Chief Range Officer As I write this, we are anticipating new members and have nearly completed renewal. Take a moment to appreciate the enormous amount of volunteer effort it takes to accomplish that and all of the other things we do through the year. Thanks to all of the volunteers! If you sponsored a new member, make sure you help them with questions and orientation. Plan on attending the mandatory orientation meeting with them if you can. Invite them to a club meeting and of course attend yourself. Volunteer early and often and keep the BRC the incredible place it already is. Something new is to have guests wear ID badges. Pick them up when you sign them in and return them before you leave. Don t hesitate to politely ask about badges if you see someone without one. We need to protect our range by complying with the rules. Range violation forms are available in numerous locations at the club. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. My number is on your card. Lee Thompson Chief Range Officer Archery Hey bow hunters! I hope your hunt went well. Mine not so good, long story. I wanted to let you all know we have replaced most of the bad 3-D inserts and a couple of 3-D targets. Also added 2 brick wall targets on the main range. I will need help changing them all out. I want to emphasize absolutely no broadheads on any of our targets! The sand traps are for broadheads or bring your own broadhead target. Enough said, see you at the range! Your President, Everett L. Bennett Don t forget when using the 3-D range please put a dollar donation in the box at the entrance of the walk through. Thank you. My long term goals are to replace all of the big plastic bales, the safety barriers behind the 3-D targets, extend the safety fence next to the walk through and raise the platform to 15 feet. Remember when you bring a guest you must sign them in first! I wish you all a great new year and BE SAFE! Ed Lange
3 CMP High Power: Participation in sanctioned CMP events is one way to become eligible to buy surplus rifles and ammo. While the selection of surplus rifles isn t good at the moment, there may be more available in the future. Stories around the campfire include M1911 pistols and perhaps WW2 Garands and Carbines from Turkey. The CMP also sells new ammo, match rifles, rifle parts, and a range of goods pertaining to marksmanship. The game that the Beloit Rifle Club hosts is the Garand Springfield - Modern Military Match. The match is 50 rounds for record, plus sighters. If you are new to the sport, there is a sanctioned clinic to help you get started. Match dates for 2017 are: Feb. 26, April 30 (match and clinic), May 14, Aug. 27, and Sept. 24th. Air Rifle: We meet on Wednesdays at 6:30 except for Club meeting dates. The winter program lasts till the end of March. We shoot a variety of matches. Some matches are rested, standing, and matches following National Match Air rules. Junior Air Rifle: The junior program trains young marksman in three position air rifle. Certified NRA rifle coaches teach precision shooting and mentor the athletes. The program began this year and the goal is to field a team to enter competitions. There are two start times on Wednesday. The times are five and six-thirty pm. A junior only summer program will run from May through August. There is no cost and pellets are provided. Loaner rifles are available. Work hours are available. For more information, see CMP under Disciplines on the Club s website. A donation of shooting mats, scopes and other gear for the junior is appreciated. Pete Taylor Silhouette Our annual "Frosty Iron Match" was held on Saturday, January 21st, It was a very nice day. The weather was warm, but foggy early in the day. We had a small turnout, 10 people participated. Greg Engel was the Matcher Winner in Standard (Heavy) Class, hitting 31 out of 40 animals. Craig Stevens was the Match Winner in Hunter (Light) Class, hitting 23 out of 40 animals. Congratulations Greg and Craig. Thank you to everyone that participated and came out to help. The 2017 winter indoor.22 rifle and pistol Silhouette shooting season has started. We shoot paper targets every Monday evening, on the indoor range, from 5:00 to 6:30 pm or so. We end the indoor season on Monday, April 24th. Come and join us anytime between 5:00 and 6:30 pm. Practice your offhand.22 shooting skills. Remember, this is an informal shooting night. All members are encouraged to participate. The 2017 outdoor Silhouette shooting season will start on Thursday, May 4th. We will shoot a 40 round match every Thursday night at 5:15. In addition, our 80 round monthly NRA sanctioned matches will be held on Saturdays again this year. The dates for these tournaments are May 20, June 10, July 15, August 19 [State Championship], and September 16. We have a beautiful, first class, high quality Silhouette shooting range. 4 The 500 Meter Range (the back rifle range) consists of 18 shooting benches, the first 12 are for general use by all members and their guests. The benches are numbered 1 thru 18 from left to right. Benches 13 thru 18 are positioned for use out to 500 meters and are ONLY to be used by those BRC members who have gone through the qualification process for that range. No guest is allowed to use this portion of the range. The following club members are authorized to qualify members on the 500 Meter Range: Chuck Mongan: Julie Wagoner: Kyle Schleim: Everett Bennett: Wally Marshall: Bill Larson: Norm Larson: Bill Ruck: Bill Powell: Paul Schuler: The Qualification Process is posted in the club house and on the bulletin board at the 500 meter range. That process is: 1. Shoot a 3 shot group a 100 yards to verify rifle zero. 2. Obtain bullet weight and velocity. 3. Calculate the necessary sight change to impact at 500 meters (547 yards). 4. Prove proper sight adjustment from calculations in step "3" by shooting another 3 shot group at 100 yards with the calculated adjustments made to your sights. The group should be 9 inches to 14 inches high depending on bullet speed and weight. 5. After the rifle is properly adjusted to strike high at 100 yards, the shooter to be qualified must fire 4 shots at 500 meters; all shots must strike within a 20 inch square steel plate. More than 4 shots are allowed as needed. 6. Upon completion of the above orientation, the member's name, address and $5.00 processing fee, will be forwarded to Jon Nortemann. A special "RED 500 Meter" badge, with the members name will be made for the member to wear. The member will also have his/her membership card signed to substitute for the badge until it arrives. You may call the other 9 members to set up other times if needed. If you are shooting a caliber that is damaging our steel targets and/or range facilities, PLEASE STOP. This club belongs to each BRC member and needs to be treated with respect. Normal wear and tear is expected but should not be accelerated. Thank-you. Remember: 1. No unintended discharge of a firearm. 2. No rounds to leave the range. 3. Wear your safety glasses. 4.
